"Idle" #1 For 4th Week, "Nice" Unlikely To Top
For those who love Duran Duran and don’t like Oasis, sorry, but Oasis is looking to drive away another #1 contender as "The Importance Of Being Idle" spends a fourth straight week at #1, keeping away Duran Duran's "Nice" which stays at #2 for a second week, losing its bullet.
"Nice" is likely to fall behind stronger competitors in Tori Amos's "Marys of the Sea" (5-3) and Rachel Stevens' "I Said Never Again (But Here We Are) (8-5). "Marys" aims to be Tori's fourth #1 hit, placing her in second place for most JT40 #1's behind Madonna. As Adam says, “When a Tori song doesn’t got to #1 on my chart, it automatically goes to #2.” While Rachel's goal is to best the #3 peak of her last chart hit "So Good".
Welcomed into the top 10 are three new entries, including Delta Goodrem's "Be Strong" (11-7) and Melissa Etheridge's "Refugee" (15-9). Can these be future #1’s?
The other new entry in the top 10 is also the week's highest debut - Alanis Morissette with a cover of Seal's "Crazy" at #10, the first single from her upcoming greatest hits album that can currently be heard on the Gap Favorites compilation CD. This is Alanis’s third straight song to debut in the top 10 on my chart. *waits for everyone to call me an Alanis freak*
The pick of the week is Anggun's "Undress Me" (17-16). After a slow start, the song is beginning to gain ground on personal charts. I found her new album on the internet! Whee!
Further down, Jesse McCartney's "Because You Live" moves 40-30 to be the week's greatest gainer (Sorry Bryan, but Ashlee only moves 37-32 and Meech moves 38-33).
Dannii Minogue debuts at #35 with "Perfection", her first appearance on the chart in almost a year when "You Won't Forget About Me" peaked at #2. "Perfection" is based on a sample of the disco classic "Turn The Beat Around", done by Vicki Sue Robinson and made famous again by Gloria Estefan.
Jann Arden returns to the countdown at #38 with "Willing To Fall Down", the follow-up to "Where No One Knows Me" which hit #1 the last week of April. Finishing out the debuts is UK pop group Liberty X's "Song For Lovers" featuring Reverend Run of Run-DMC at #39.
Sorry that this week’s commentary wasn’t as funny, I was in a rush.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
