Halfway through the year here are my top 50 songs of the year so far:
And these are the top 10 songs of the year in ABC order by song:
Sure Shots
AJR - Way Less Sad
The follow-up to their #2 ode to adulting, "Bang," "Way Less Sad" is about seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. It's the 4th single off their current album "OK Orchestra" and is currently #25 on my chart, but is destined to peak higher and should have a slot on the year-end chart.
Elle King & Miranda Lambert - Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)
Despite this collab being recorded pre-pandemic, "Drunk" was released in late February and has been a crossover hit. The song is currently #13 on my chart and had a good shot at reaching the top 10, or higher.
Glass Animals - Heat Waves
So I was a little late to the party on this one, but better late than never. Originally release last summer, "Heat Waves" by the British band is currently #9 on my chart. There's still a chance it could go top 5, but there's a bigger chance it will land on the year-end chart.
Honorable Mentions
Banners - Someone To You
The one-man band Banners finished the first quarter at #31 but "Someone To You" was more of a leftover from last year. It still had some juice to make some impact in 2021, but looks like this could be a victim of split year syndrome.
Brynn Elliott - Tell Me I'm Pretty
Brynn scored a top 10 on my chart in 2018 with "Might Not Like Me." In 2021 she made an early splash with "Tell Me I'm Pretty," the first single from her upcoming album "Can I Be Real." Unfortunately the song peaked very quickly spending 3 weeks at #27. It's placement on the year-end could be in danger.
Shawn Mendes - Wonder
Another example of split year syndrome. Wonder reached #1 on my chart in 2020 and despite spending the first 3 weeks of 2021 in the top 10, it looks like another just miss for the year-end chart.
