TURNSTILE EARNS FIRST EVER BURNER 50 #1 WITH "MYSTERY"
In only its third week in the top 50, the Baltimore band Turnstile makes a huge jump from #8 last week all the way to #1 with "Mystery", the band's first new release in three years. The song becomes the first ever #1 for Turnstile and posts the biggest jump to #1 since a year ago, when Boston Manor's 9-week chart topper "Ratking" vaulted 10-1 in its fourth week on the chart.
Turnstile's victory on the Burner 50 is the result of strong play since its mid-May release and heavy anticipation for a followup to their highly successful Time And Space album era on the chart. Time And Space, released in 2018, delivered Turnstile four top 5 hits but no #1. The most successful of those songs, "Real Thing", spent six weeks at #2 blocked by three different songs ("Prism" by Milk Teeth, "Blame Paradise" by the Dear Hunter and "Dweeb" by Teenage Wrist) in late 2017 and early 2018, setting records for the most weeks at #2 (Joyce Manor would break that record by one week with "Million Dollars To Kill Me" later in 2018) and most weeks in the top 50 without reaching #1, at 35 weeks.
The big jump for Turnstile prevents big movement elsewhere in the top 10, though Garbage lands their second top 10 with "No Gods No Masters" up 15-10, concurrently earning their fourth top 20 with "Wolves" up 31-20. Last week's top debut, Olivia Rodrigo's "Brutal", posts a huge 23-spot leap from 36-13 in its second week and is poised to go top 10 next week; she also has two songs with concurrent movement as "Good 4 U", her third single and second US #1 hit, debuts at #46. "Brutal" is aiming to become the Burner 50's biggest success for a mainstream pop artist in two years, when the unexpected hard rock collab "Blow" by Ed Sheeran, Chris Stapleton and Bruno Mars spent three weeks at #1.
After coming close but being passed on a debut last week, Hurry earns the week's top debut with "A Fake Idea" at #31. It's the second charting entry for the Philadelphia indie band; they previously reached #19 with "Waiting For You" in 2018.
