Are there any songs that hit #1 on your chart, but felt that the album they came from was disappointing?
I've had several:
Avril Lavigne - What The Hell
Overall I found "Goodbye Lullaby" to be a disappointment though I loved its lead single. Can't judge "Head Above Water" though as I'd only heard its singles, though I hated "Dumb Blonde".
Britney Spears - Perfume
The less said about "Britney Jean", the better. But this was a rare highlight on it, and I felt it was a worthy #1 on my chart.
Katy Perry - Chained To The Rhythm
"Witness" was one of my most disappointing albums ever, but at least its lead single got to #1 for me.
Michelle Branch - Best You Ever
After 14 years, "Hopeless Romantic" had so much to live up to, but alas it didn't live up to my expectations. This song was one of the only tracks that stands alongside her classics for me.
Pink - What About Us
This was a case of the lead single being the biggest disappointment; despite hitting #1, it had absolutely no longevity! While subsequent singles from "Beautiful Trauma" made my top 20, overall the era didn't live up to her past stuff.
Demi Lovato - Sexy Dirty Love
Demi has had a lot of inconsistencies for me, but ultimately her "Tell Me You Love Me" album was one of the biggest. Its title track and this #1 single were both significant hits for me, but I felt a lot of the album just wasn't great, including lead single "Sorry Not Sorry", which failed to chart entirely for me!
Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry, Breathin'
Overall I felt "Sweetener" honestly wasn't a very good album - while it had a lot of songs I hated, these two were definite highlights for me, both hitting #1.
Ed Sheeran, Chris Stapleton & Bruno Mars - Blow
Full disclosure: I haven't heard his "No. 6: Collaborations Project" album in its entirety. But from the singles I'd heard, I'd liked several, including this, "I Don't Care", "Put It All On Me" and "Beautiful People". But I hated "Cross Me", "Antisocial", and "South Of The Border". The tracks on this album were highly dependent on their collaborators, whom I have mixed opinions on.
Foo Fighters - No Son Of Mine
I'd enjoyed most of their previous albums, and while I'd anticipated "Medicine At Midnight", much of it fell flat for me. This was a rare highlight for me, being a hard rocker reminiscent of their classics.
