TEENAGE WRIST BREAKS MILK TEETH'S 11-MONTH-OLD #1 RECORD WITH "YELLOWBELLY"
In a week of intensely fast gains and increasing crossover success with a big move on Bryan's chart and debut on Kim's chart, Teenage Wrist has reclaimed #1 from Citizen after their seven-week grip with two solid singles, earning their record eighth #1 with "Yellowbelly". The song moves 2-1 after spending the last three weeks at #2, seemingly doomed by its release being overshadowed by the instant impact of Citizen's "I Want To Kill You" and the first week impact of the Wrist's Earth Is A Black Hole album surpassed by Citizen's "Blue Sunday", which spent the last two weeks at #1 largely on the strength of high spin counts (it falls to #2 this week). But "Yellowbelly" has strongly benefited over the last week and a half from still-increasing crossover attention on M4B, with that combined with more frequent play than "Blue Sunday" during that same time helping it finally overcome its initial obstacles to become a landmark song in the Wrist's catalog by breaking the record for the Burner 50's most #1s by one artist, a record Milk Teeth clinched from Basement just 11 short months ago.
"Yellowbelly" also becomes the fourth #1 from Earth Is A Black Hole, following the previous three singles "Silverspoon", the title track and "Taste Of Gasoline", the last two of which remain in the top 10 ("Earth" is #4, "Taste" drops to #7) after sharing a 10-week reign prior to Citizen taking over. That makes the album the second, following Milk Teeth's self-titled 2020 album, to spawn at least four #1s. The Milk Teeth album had five: "Given Up", "Destroyer", "Transparent", "Better" and "Sharks".
Elsewhere on the chart, after a surprisingly long wait to break the top 10, Chris Cornell's "Jump Into The Fire" and Boston Manor's "Brand New Kids" climb 11-9 and 13-10, respectively.
Two new highly anticipated songs make up this week's debuts. First at #44 is Foxing's "Speak With The Dead" (which features the alternative hip hop band WHY?), the ambitious, 7-minute lead single from the band's upcoming fourth studio album, reportedly called Draw Down The Moon. Foxing is following up one of the most acclaimed rock albums of the 2010s, Nearer My God, whose key track "Grand Paradise" hit #1 last year following the release of a remix by Mike Shinoda. And at #45 is Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak's "Leave The Door Open", the lead single from their collaborative album An Evening With Silk Sonic. Mars' last album, 24k Magic, had three of its four charting entries reach the top 20, while this is just the second top 50 appearance for Paak, whose 2018 one-off "Bubblin" reached #7.
