Hola, you crazed chart phanatics!
I know that many of you (or, at least, two of you) have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of my annual Top 1 countdown... so here I am... being selfless and all that... by making your dream come true!
Let me just preface this by saying that 2020 was a year of nearly ceaseless shit being dumped atop more shit... and I laugh and cry at the same time when I think back to how I said on January 1, 2020, that "2020" would be my year of "perfect clarity about the future," since "20/20," of course, means perfect vision. Well, how f*cking wrong could a prediction turn out to be??!!??!! But... here's to making 2021 suck a whole lot less. Things definitely will start looking up the second after Biden is inaugerated. Looking forward to Fox News interrupting my gay porn appreciation to bring me real-time images of the Army forcibly removing the Orange Asshat from the White House. But enough of that...! I have friends who have lost family members to COVID this year... and I can't begin to share the misery that this year has heaped on students, their teachers, and their families as we've worked to educate children during a pandemic. We've all suffered. Praying that 2021 brings the healing we need on so many levels.
Now... on to the countdown...
One of the few bright spots this year was the release of the "Love, Victor" television series on HULU. For those who may not know, "Love, Victor" is a spin-off of "Love, Simon," the 2018 movie that rocked my world and caused me to return to m4bcc for about six months in 2018 while I worked my way through the process of charting most of the soundtrack album!! Seeing the series "Love, Victor" was another emotional experience for me... and I have to say I've been moved by the appearance of more gay characters in, of all things, holiday movies this year! I will NEVER forget the mental meltdown of watching two MEN kiss for MULTIPLE seconds in the middle of a HALLMARK Christmas movie. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. And there were several other gay-oriented holiday movies, too, this year. I enjoyed "Happiest Season" on HULU and "Dashing in December" on Paramount/TVLand... and there were a handful of other holiday movies that dared to show same-sex couples touching hands or hugging, even if those characters didn't have major plot points. Representation matters, and to see this representation made 2020 suck less.
So... without further ado... my top track of 2020 is ...
SOMEBODY TO TELL ME (THEME FROM LOVE, VICTOR) by Tyler Glenn, out frontman of Neon Trees.
They play a snippet of the song at the beginning of every episode of Love, Victor... and my last.fm playlist confirms this was my most-played track of the year. It definitely is a song I will associate with the few good things that came out of 2020.
Give it a listen below. Thanks for checking out my coundown. I wish you and yours a safe, happy, and HEALTHY new year.
Love,
David
