Calvin Harris has little patience for dance music haters.
Today on Instagram, the producer posted a clip from a TV news interview in which a sort of ornery pundit laments that, "unfortunately we've got a generation of songwriters brought up on house music, and house music is the worst songwriting. There isn't any songwriting skills in house music, to me."
And you know what? As both a fan and creator of house music, Calvin Harris didn't like this assertion one bit, writing on Instagram, "The dance music & club culture slander continues in the UK...I was brought up on house music."
In a truly elegant clap-back, Harris then posted another photo featuring him with his Ivor Novello Songwriter of the Year award in 2013. (The award has also gone to superstars include Adele, Annie Lennox, George Michael, Ed Sheeran, Robbie Williams and Freddie Mercury since it was first given out in 1956.) Harris received the award the year after he released his massive 18 months LP, which included such blatantly house-influenced hits as "Feels So Close" and "We Found Love" with Rihanna.
"Cheers," Harris, writes in the caption, completing his retort with the thumbs up emoji.
The post has thus far received more than 18,000 likes and comments of support from myriad dance world acts including fellow house fanatics Disclosure, who simply commented, "Wow..."
This is the second time in two weeks that Harris has voiced his thoughts on the attack on UK club culture. On September 30, he criticized the UK government's treatment of the music industry amid COVID-19 with a post noting that "as usual the UK government treating music industry like sh--."

Hervard: In case anyone's wondering, that is a sentence I made up using the eight "exception" words to the "i before e except after c" rule - words with a long "e" sound, that is. I learned all of this in English class in my junior year in HS.

J.T.: Frickin' English...here are a couple mind-blowing sentences, in that they are grammatically correct: "All the faith he had had had had no effect on the outcome of his life" or "The complex houses married and single soldiers and their families."
