Mariah is releasing a 2 DISC compilation album on October 2nd of songs she's never released over the years as well as a few more obscure cuts. The second disc contains the entire Tokyo Dome Daydream concert which is arguably one of her greatest vocal shows to date. In addition to the album, Mariah has also released a critically acclaimed memoir that details her life and goes through how some of her songs were developed.

I don't know... I love Mariah, but her stuff before Daydream is sucky! And half the album is from those eras :/ I will give it a listen anyway.

I haven't disliked anything I've heard from the album so far, although what peaks my interest is the Tokyo concert available here for the first time.

After letting this compilation sink in for a few weeks here are my thoughts: 1. HERE WE GO AROUND AGAIN - This is such a fantastic Jackson 5 influenced uptempo. I will definitely be charting this for a long time since it's so infectious. This is one of the strongest on the album. 2. CAN YOU HEAR ME - This has gorgeous vocals but the song itself is among the bottom of her catalogue for me which is not surprising since she wrote this song with Barbra Streisand in mind. 3. DO YOU THINK OF ME - This song has been out for years as a B-SIDE on the Dreamlover single. It has a gorgeous melody and is far more interesting then at least half of MUSIC BOX. 4. EVERYTHING FADES AWAY - This song has been out since 1993 on international versions of MUSIC BOX. It would've fit in with the EMOTIONS album sonically. The background vocals are killer here. 5. ALL I LIVE FOR - This may be my favourite on this collection. It's so catchy and clearly 90s sounding due to the slight new jack swing influence and house elements. 6. ONE NIGHT - This was the most disappointing song on the album as it was written during Daydream with Jermaine Dupri. I'm not fond of the slower intro but as the song progresses and tempo picks up it does improve. I think the intro should have been an interlude. 7. SLIPPING AWAY - This has been out since 1996 as a b-side to ALWAYS BE MY BABY. It's great that it's now available on streaming services as it's a highlight song in her career. This was clearly left off DAYDREAM due to subject matter as it alluded to what would happen to Mariah personally in the years to follow. Sonically this was one of her most r&b leaning songs at the time which was not in line with what her record label wanted. 8. OUT HERE ON MY OWN - After reading Mariah's book, I can clearly see why this song meant so much to her as a child. The vocals are gorgeous and it clearly has the GLITTER tone. 9. LOVERBOY (FIRECRACKER ORIGINAL VERSION) - This song is INFAMOUS for so many reasons. This version which was supposed to be released in 2001 was scrapped for a CANDY CAMEO sample instead due to the sabotage from her previous record label at the time. The vocals on this version are in a higher key and overall sound better due to the other one likely being rush recorded due to MOTTOLA. This version is fun and has a very "Dreamlover" esque intro and outro. 10. I PRAY - Great vocals and overall a very inspirational song for a special fan. 11. COOL ON YOU - This song was recorded for E=MC^2 and the stucture of the song is very indicitive of that. This has been the biggest grower on the album for me and overall is a fun carefree jam. 12. MESMERIZED - Discoriah is not to be toyed with. The fact that this could've been on MIAMTEC is frustrating. Vocally she goes off at the end and it's so fantastic. This is one of her best recorded song from the 2010s. 13. LULLABY OF BIRDLAND - I have always had a special place in my heart for a jazz influenced album track THE WIND from EMOTIONS. This song features Mariah scatting and showing off her musicality. 14. SAVE THE DAY - Thematically this song fits this year well. Production wise it can get really busy at times but the vocals are great. 15. CLOSE MY EYES (ACOUSTIC) - This album goes hand in hand with her book and this makes perfect sense as the closer.
Overall I am happy as a fan that Mariah has given her fans so much this year with the massive release of rare mixes throughout the year on streaming, a new album, book and more to come through her Christmas projects.
