A x B & C feat. D & F’s lil’ cousin.
This is driving me insane.
Is there a good reference web site for the proper artist descriptions?
On youtube, sometimes it’s an &, sometimes it’s feat. Wiki seems pretty good, but you can’t really rely on wiki.
The worst is the comma.. I scream when I see A, B Is this a duet or a collaboration?
How can you get the official artist description for a song?

The letter “x” is much, much worse.

"&" and "feat." don't annoy me. Comma is dumb but I never thought too much about that.
However, "x" is so f*cking pretentious it's not even funny. What the HELL is the point in X?!?!?! That drives me INSANE.
Seriously, look how stupid this looks: Lady Gaga x Ariana Grande Lita Ford x Ozzy Osbourne Paul McCartney x Michael Jackson Elton John x Kiki Dee Carly Simon x James Taylor
NO. JUST.NO.

I literally just Googled this an hour ago. I wish there was more consistency with how tracks are listed as well. I generally go with the way iTunes or Amazon Music lists the artist... or how it's spelled on the cover art.
"X", "x", and "&" all indicate a collaboration between two or more artists who have an equal role in the song (as the main artist). Also, side note - In many European languages, the "x" by itself means "for" or "with".
"Feat." or "Featuring" indicates that the "featured" artist will have a smaller role in the song than the main artist.

Sounds like amazon & Itunes get it right, especially if it's a digital 'single"
Now if they could stop making remixes with new artists every month, it would help me out!

And if you look at the cover:
it doesn't even say 'X-Ambassadors' only 'XA!' For K.flay, you can read 'K' then a blotch.
Guess they want to be incognito on this one.

F*ck x.
I'd prefer everything just be clear with "&" and "featuring" credits with & indicating a full collaboration and featuring just being a small appearance.

I find that Spotify often has great artist descriptions plus you can usually see in the artwork if the song is & or + or x or "featuring".
Some of you may be aware, but streaming services do not pay artists if they are labelled as "featuring". Being featured somehow as a co-artist is the only way for both artists to be paid for their work!! I have long been against this practice, but it also leads back to record labels, some of whom will pay vocalists who are "featured" instead of having them being paid by streaming services. "Featuring" used to have a meaning once - a special guest performer on a record - but that's now gone.

So that they could get some loose coins by associating with a bigger artist or vice versa.

In a case where the lead artist is a DJ, then I favour the vocalist getting fully co-credited.

This crap messes up scrobbling on Last FM if you use the service. It is worst these days with so many artists doing one time duos or song featuring.... x.
Which is correct?
Kygo, Tina Turner Kygo featuring Tina Turner kygo & Tina Turner
And the X Ambassadors one is a mess.
Zen - X Ambassadors
By itself it works fine with Last FM When you put in the other 2 artists names it gets messed up.
Errrrrr......

I usually just tag the lead artist in the artist tag to get their scrobbles to count towards that artist. Spotify scrobbles automatically do this. For example, I list the artist as "Kygo" and the title as "What's Love Got To Do With It (with Tina Turner)" to acknowledge both artists but count it towards Kygo's play count.
If it's a duet, I just pick one of the artists to count the scrobbles towards (usually if it's on an album from one of them, that artist).
