Right. We finally made it! I only had to do one reminder (See, I'm nice!) and all votes are in, so let's get this thing started
It is now out of my hands. This is how you guys voted. I don't not want to see any whinging for not submitting a good song. Bragging about submitting a winning song however, is readily encouraged
Okie dokie. Everyone ready? Let's go!
Ohhh dammit, that's right. I've already paid a cheque (yes, I know the American's here spell it 'check') to our special guest artist for the evening, so I'd better get them out here. Please welcome to the stage (and hold your tomatoes back) for..... Lil Pump!
*blinks*
If I wanted to throw money away I would have gone and bought the latest Lisa Gail album...
Right, now excuse me for a moment while I go and fire my PA...
On with the show!
Up first, it's Song Number 1, which was "Boyfriend" by Los Angeles rock duo, Best Coast! Did anyone pick who submitted this track? Well, I can now reveal that Song no. 1 was submitted by our very own Jess! Get on up here to the stage Jess - it's time to reveal your scores
How did you go? Well the results are in and I can say that "Best Coast" consisted of TWO first-place votes and ONE second-place vote! What was Jess' total? Jess scored a total of 22 POINTS!
A great start to kick off the contest Jess. Well done!
With a respectable score to start the show, let's see if any of Jess' competitors can beat her score. Let's find out!
Song Number 2 in the first week of the 2018 M4BCC Song Contest was "Need You Now" by Sydney singer-songwriter, Dean Lewis! Who predicted the submitter of this one? Was it one of our two Aussie contenders? Well, I can now reveal that it certainly was! And that Aussie was your very own host, Matt! Matt, run down to the crowd and then run back up to the stage, because it's time to reveal your scores!
Right, where are we? The results are in and I can now reveal to you, Matt, that your score consisted of ONE first-place vote, ONE second-place vote and TWO third-place votes! That's sounding pretty good right now, isn't it? So without further-a-do, Matt, you scored a total of 25 POINTS!
Well done Matt!
Now run back down to the crowd and then back up to the stage to continue revealing the results
So, with two results down, we still have a fair few to get through, and I can see the crowd is itching to hear what their results are. Settle down guys, it's still only early days and I don't need to remind you that even if you do well or bad this week, you still need to do well in the next week to avoid the Elimination Round. It's great to see you all so excited though, so bravo on being so eager. I did notice that none of you ran out to buy Lil Pump's album which is on sale in the merch-stand outside this theatre? That's a shame because his CD's cost more than the 50 cents I paid him to perform live for you all at the start of the evening. And don't worry, I will be requesting a rephund.
Okay, since a few of you are starting to doze off Zzzzzzzz, I will move onto Song Number 3, which was "Over Myself" by Calgury singer/instrumentalist, Kiesza! Could a Canadian contender have submitted a fellow Canuck track this week? Well, if you guessed that, then you'd be correct! "Over Myself" was submitted by none other than Bryan! Bryan, get on up here to the stage and let's reveal how you scored with Kiesza this week... errm, I mean how she scored for you.... yes, that's it.
I can now reveal to the crowd how they voted for Bryan's song, and his score consisted of TWO second-place votes and ONE third-place vote. But, does that mean he has outscored Jess and/or Matt? Well the scores are in and Bryan has scored a total of 26 POINTS! Well done Bryan!
This means that Bryan takes the lead! Can he hold onto it? There's still four reveals to go!
Up next it's Song Number 4, which was "Lullaby By By By" by German singer and actress, Ute Lemper! Did anyone guess whom may have submitted this track? Well if you guessed our fellow contestant, Ari, then you'd be correct! Ari, run on up here to the stage! Let's see how "Lullaby By By By" has scored for you.
I can now reveal that Song Number 4, which went for 11 MINUTES mind you, didn't score any podium finishes, but does that really matter in this game? We saw that Bryan had no first-placings, but is currently in the lead, so can it happen for you this week, Ari? Well, I can now reveal your score, and I can now reveal that "Lullaby By By By" scored you a total of 7 POINTS!
Unfortunately, it wasn't a hit for Ari, and he will need a good score in Week 2 to avoid the elimination round. But who else will need to do the same? There are still three reveals to come, so on with the show!
Song Number 5 was "When I Dance With You" by New York City indie-pop band, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart! What an interesting band name. Was the song just as interesting? And who submitted it? Well I can now reveal that "When I Dance With You" was submitted by none other than Pipa! Or Kim, however you like to call him Come on up here to the stage, Pipa!
Pipa, I can now reveal to you that your total score this week consisted of ONE second-place vote and TWO third place votes, but what was your total score? The results are in and I can now say that Pipa has scored a total of 24 POINTS! Well done Pipa!
This better's Ari and Jess' score, but is JUST lesser than Bryan and Matt's score. With two contestants to go, who will have the advantage and who will need to pick up their game? Let's move on!
Up next is Song Number 6, which was "Confess" by another Sydney singer-songwriter, Jack River! A few of you may have been surprised to hear a female-voice on this track, as her real name is Holly Rankin, but either way, she must have decided "Jack River" sounded better. Who do we think submitted this track? If you guessed our other Aussie contender, Sam, then you'd be correct! Come on up to the stage Sam!
Sam, I can now reveal to you that your total score this week consists of ONE second-place vote and ONE third-place vote! How did your fellow contestants score you? I can now reveal that "Confess" has scored you a total of 22 POINTS!
This ties Sam with Jess!
There is one more reveal to go, and naturally that means you know who is the last remaining contestant. This is Song Number 7, which was "Wanted" by Nashville singer-songwriter, Vanessa Carlton! This also means that it was submitted by Michael! Come on up here to the stage to hear your results!
I can now reveal that "Wanted" has consisted of THREE first-place votes! Are three-first place votes enough to score Michael the win for the week? Remember that he is our defending champion, so he is the one to beat! No pressure Mike
"Wanted" has scored you a total of 24 POINTS! Well done Mike!
This ties Mike with Pipa!
This concludes our results show for the evening, and as you know, now your points are transferred to the tally. As we had a few ties in this first week, it means that there are also ties in the tally. Here is how we ended up.
First Place - BRYAN - 26 POINTS - 7 TALLY POINTS
Second Place - MATT - 25 POINTS - 6 TALLY POINTS
Third Place - PIPA - 24 POINTS - 5 TALLY POINTS
Third Place - MICHAEL - 24 POINTS - 5 TALLY POINTS
Fifth Place - JESS - 22 POINTS - 3 TALLY POINTS
Fifth Place - SAM - 22 POINTS - 3 TALLY POINTS
Seventh Place - ARI - 7 POINTS - 1 TALLY POINT
Thanks to everyone for participating and for a great first week. We're in for a good year of music it seems
Just a reminder that Week 2 of the contest is now OPEN, so send through your submissions (by 11:59pm, July 22nd, 2018). A reminder that only a competition song is required this week.
Jess, Sam and Ari, make them really good and potentially save yourselves from the bottom 3 next week But everyone else, don't slack off and hold onto your leads! As it was a tight contest thus far, it could go any way! The game is on
Now, to close out Week 1's show and to give the artist their other 25 cents, please welcome back to the stage, Lil Pump!
