Country star, Canadian citizen and Swiss resident Shania Twain did not vote in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, but she has indicated that she would have voted for Donald Trump if she had the opportunity to do so. In a new interview with The Guardian, the singer discussed her long absence from recording and performing in the 2000s, why she favors certain curse words, her difficult childhood, the sexual abuse her father inflicted on her, her marriage -- and an abrupt shift to American politics when she mentioned her vote would've gone to the Republican candidate that November. Shania Twain performs at the New York State Fair in 1998. "Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn’t be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don’t want bullshit. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. And politics has a reputation of not being that, right?" Sunday evening (April 22), Twain addressed her comments with a statement posted on social media, clarifying that she does "not hold any common moral beliefs with the current President" Source

Not necessarily because of this, but I'm soooo tired of her. She needs to leave music alone... but whatever! The fact is, that even if she had different intentions, she would have voted for him. She didn't say she takes back her words, she just 'clarified' why she would have voted for him. So she can go sit down somewhere far from everyone

Not at all. The timing wasn't well thought out, especially right after appearing as a judge on "RuPaul's Drag Race", but whatever, I still like her.

No. My thoughts about her haven't changed. I like several of her songs, but I wouldn't have called myself a Shania Twain fan, per se. She just...exists, as far as I've been concerned. I still feel that same way about her now. Had she voted in the election, she would've voted differently than I did. And I don't agree with her assessment of the president as "he seemed honest." But, she's entitled to her opinion and I don't feel like I have to throw away her CDs and delete all of her music files from my collection because she feels the way she feels.
For the most part, I like to think I can separate the music someone makes from how they feel about issues or things that they do. If I find out they have the same opinion as me, my attitude is, "I KNEW there was a reason I liked you!" If I find out that they have a differing opinion from me, I feel disappointed. But, it generally doesn't stop me from liking any of their songs that I may already like.
