Coming next week...
Inspired by Spin Magazine, which has ranked entire discographies from the likes of Eminem, Led Zeppelin and the Foo Fighters, as well as Oscar winning original songs and Kanye West productions, I have decided to undertake a project to mark the return of the Jessica's Top 40 Countdown and rank every single song to reach her personal top 40 chart. This ranking of the best JT40 hits spans the debut chart posted on June 30, 2003, up to the end of the third quarter of 2015, and is based on my personal preferences as well as how well I think each song has held up since its charting.
This list excludes songs from Jess's charts she compiled prior to her starting the website and joining the Top Hits Online panel in June 2003, so this excludes hits from before that time such as "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera and "Lights Out" by Lisa Marie Presley; I also decided to give no more than one version of a song a place on the list despite charting for multiple versions (for example, the original and R. Kelly remix of "Baby I Love U!" by Jennifer Lopez, the original and Tiesto remix of "What Can We Do (A Deeper Love)" by Anastacia, the featuring R. Kelly/featuring Christina Aguilera versions of "Do What U Want" by Lady Gaga, etc.).
Grab your popcorn, this could be an entertaining list.

2065 songs charted on Jessica's Top 40 from June 2003 to September 2015, and the first batch is the weakest... and by weak, I mean absolute garbage. Here's the list, followed by my commentary on the set.
THE BOTTOM 65

Maroon 5 - Animals (#5, 2014) 2007. Robin Thicke featuring Kendrick Lamar - Give It 2 U (#36, 2013) 2006. Cher Lloyd - Want U Back (#6, 2012) 2005. Rachel Platten - Fight Song (#31, 2015) 2004. Hilary Duff - Haters (#13, 2004) 2003. Pharrell Williams - Happy (#12, 2014) 2002. Santana featuring Jacoby Shaddix - Smoke On The Water (#9, 2012) 2001. Avril Lavigne & Chad Kroeger - Let Me Go (#35, 2013)
This first batch of songs consist of the absolute bottom of the barrel, a diverse mishmash of obvious bottom feeders, unmemorable songs that likely charted just to fill space (*cough* American Idol winner's songs *cough*), horrendous novelty songs (including some that probably were unintended novelties, such as the incredibly unlistenable deserved flop "A Toast To Men" by Willa Ford, and the carnival of horrors-sounding ode to Game of Thrones' Theon Greyjoy "Alfie" by Lily Allen) and in the case of songs like Maroon 5's "Love Somebody", "Daylight" and "Animals", overplayed and overexposed mediocrity. It also features a handful of songs I consider among the worst cover songs of all time. The Girls Aloud/Sugababes cover of "Walk This Way" is a blistering insult to both Aerosmith and Run-DMC, Anastacia should never touch another Dave Grohl composition again, and having Santana and Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach in the place of Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Gillian on "Smoke On The Water" is like ordering steak and getting tofu instead.
This set also includes a number of songs that make me scream every time I hear them over the fact they have been played out to god awful proportions. "Happy", "Fight Song" and "Worth It" (the latter of which was shitty to begin with) need to die quick and painless deaths now, for the sake of the sanity of most music loving people. The vast majority of the entries on here made it because they annoyed the shit out of me, from the grating "ah-ah" choruses on The Verve's mediocre comeback (it's hard to believe THIS followed up "Bitter Sweet Symphony") to two of the worst songs in Madonna's catalog, as "American Life" and "Nobody Knows Me", respectively, prove rapping and autotune are not her strong suits.
COMING UP IN THE NEXT SET: More Madonna and Katy Perry, the first of several low-end appearances for a former core chart artist, a song that was overplayed to death by the M4BCC Radio Auto DJ, and everyone's favorite 2000s one-hit wonder.

LOL Randay LOL me, can't believe I outranked Taylor Hicks "Peacock" was such a disaster - as a Katy Perry fan, it gets a "No. Just no." from me. LOL Sorry 2004 "L.A. Love" was such a disaster, good to see it low. LOL I almost forgot "Bat For A Heart" existed, it really was forgettable. LOL Iggy Azalea I never liked "Worth It", and overplay made it a lot worse. I expect it to make my worst of 2015, seriously, they had so many good songs, yet THAT crap became their biggest hit? "Hot" was the beginning of the end for Avril. I got sick of it VERY fast and it makes me cringe today. LOL Fergalicious, "Fuglicious" was better No surprise those Maroon 5 songs crashed out, I like their first 3 albums stuff better. "Animals", for a band used to #1, only got #6 for me and spent like 12 weeks on my chart before I got sick of it and "Daylight" was a rather weak #1 for me. "Love Somebody", however, I still enjoy a lot to this day, sorry I liked "3" though she's had better, it still made my top 5. I actually never got sick of "Fight Song" or "Happy". UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

2064. Randay - Renaissance (#40, 2013) BRO SHUT THE f*ck UP! STOP BEING A BULLY AND A HOMOPHOBE! 2053. Chris Crocker - Leave Britney Alone (Trance Remix) (#40, 2007) 2048. R. Kelly - Marry The Pussy (#40, 2013) But these were hilarious! 2052. Ashlee Simpson - Bat For A Heart (#33, 2012) 2034. Natasha Bedingield - I Wanna Have Your Babies (#31, 2007) 2029. Britney Spears featuring Iggy Azalea - Pretty Girls (#32, 2015) 2028. Avril Lavigne - Hot (#30, 2007) Yeah, I regret charting these. I tried giving them chances because I generally liked those artists at the time but these are all awful, awful songs. 2043. Tila Tequila - I Love U (#30, 2007) Charting a Nazi is not exactly my chart's greatest moment... 2040. Fergie - L.A. Love (La La) (#37, 2014) I legit thought this was catchy at first but it got old FAST. 2038. T.I. featuring Iggy Azalea - No Mediocre (#23, 2014) Yeah idk what I was thinking with this one either and this was just over a year ago. 2037. Madonna - American Life (#1, 2003) 10-year-old me would be bitching you out right now. I still love this song for nostalgic reasons, but I definitely understand the hate. 2036. Willa Ford featuring Lady May - A Toast To Men (F*ck The Men) (#12, 2003) I STILL LOVE THIS SONG. Again, I understand the hate, but come on man, f*ck THE MEN LET'S DRINK TO US! 2035. Fantasia - Baby Mama (#19, 2005) 2010. The Verve - Love Is Noise (#17, 2008) I don't remember for the life of me how either of these go. 2032. Lily Allen - Alfie (#13, 2007) I will never forgive myself for charting this garbage. 2025. Fergie featuring Will.i.am - Fergalicious (#10, 2006) Courage and I did it better. 2024. Katy Perry - This Is How We Do (#1, 2014) I still like this, however, considering how quickly I got sick of it, it did NOT deserve #1. 2023. Hilary & Haylie Duff - Our Lips Are Sealed (#12, 2004) @whoselinefan and I can both agree that the highlight of their careers was "The Siamese Cat Song". 2014. t.A.T.u. - Not Gonna Get Us (#20, 2003) So I charted both Nazis AND homophobes? This list is making me look really bad so far lol 2013. Tamar Braxton - Hot Sugar (#35, 2013) Julian2012. Girlicious - Baby Doll (#21, 2008) Everything this group did was sooooo mediocre, they were a second rate PCD, and PCD weren't that great to begin with. Sorry @bestintheworld. 2009. Jem - Just A Ride (#30, 2005) OMG I FORGOT I CHARTED THIS. This sucked sooooooooooo much omg.

Wow, there were way too many dated ballads and Jessica Simpson songs in that set. Way too much of that for me to handle.
Some of 2015's least memorable songs crash out here, including M4B Radio Auto DJ faves "When Love Hurts", "Back Together" and "Confident", three songs that reminded me even alternatives to terrestrial radio can be far from perfect.
There were songs here that were exceptionally terrible for tainting the legacies of classic songs. "U Don't Need To Know" and "Feel This Moment", respectively, utilize samples of Jean Knight's "Mr. Big Stuff" and a-ha's "Take On Me" that don't fit the songs very well and make them sound messy, while "Hurt", originally by Nine Inch Nails and famously covered by the late Johnny Cash, was never written and recorded to fit the showboating and theatrics of Leona Lewis's cover. (To her credit, she did do justice to "Run" by Snow Patrol.)
And the less said about #1966, the better.
COMING UP IN THE NEXT SET: Even more Madonna and Katy Perry, even more bad cover songs, pre-"Hit The Ground" Hinder, a song Jessica once described on her countdown show as "an ode to ejaculation," and a song that will never, ever, ever rank higher than the 1800s on this list. Like, ever.

I'm STILL sick of "Give Me Everything". LOL Ke$ha "Intro" is legendary. LOL Fergie I don't even remember how those Tori songs go. Must've been really forgettable. On the other hand, there is a reason why certain Madonna songs flop. Wow @ all those Daughtry flops. I still can't believe JessieLou charted Powter, of course Bebe Reptar will never let her live it down. I'm shocked "Confessions Of A Broken Heart" is that high, I remember how much you EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW'd that when Courage played it. (As a side note, it has experienced a resurgence for me as it's the usual choice for Fredz for our "hi the bump" on each other's last.fm profiles as Lindsay Lohan is often in the 496-500 range on my last.fm.) LOL @ #1923 being Cody's "Latin poet". Unlike "Give Me Everything" which I always hated, I can still enjoy the occasional listen to "Feel This Moment", one of the rare Pitbull songs I like. Poor Adele Dazeem. "Love Is Free" was Sheryl Crow's jump the shark moment for me, she's gone downhill ever since.

Beady Eye - Second Bite Of The Apple (#30, 2013) I tried so hard to get into Beady Eye but aside from "The Roller" everything I heard from them was so mediocre. Thank the lawd for Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds! 1984. Wilfred Le Bouthillier - L'important c'est d'Aimer (#30, 2005) @xfer 1980. Madonna - Superstar (#38, 2012) lol 1976. JoJo - When Love Hurts (#27, 2015) This dropped on my chart a month ago and I already regret it. At first I thought this song was cute but M4B Radio's overplay made me realize how terrible this actually is. She sounds like she's struggling to sing the notes! 1974. Breaking Benjamin - Intro (#40, 2008) Oh come on, this was a CLASSIC lmfao 1966. Daniel Powter - Bad Day (#8, 2006) Ewwww get it away from me 1957. Kelly Osbourne - One Word (#32, 2005) This only got to #32?? I love this lol 1942. Lindsay Lohan - Confessions Of A Broken Heart (Daughter To Father) (#25, 2005) I'm honestly shocked this wasn't lower. You and @kelownaguy19 would not shut up about how much you guys hated this song when it was out. 1938. Madonna - Girl Gone Wild (#16, 2012) Classic case of me giving mediocrity a chance because of the artist's name. 1935. Herman Ze German - Heya Heya (#25, 2010) LMAO I forgot about that omg that was soooooo bad lol 1923. Pitbull featuring Christina Aguilera - Feel This Moment (#17, 2013) Nice to see you disrespect Latin American poets. Remember: ask for money, get advice. Ask for advice, get money twice. Cody1921. Artists Stand Up To Cancer - Just Stand Up (#11, 2008) But according to Artie Ziff on Pulse, this is a modern rock SMASH! 1911. Tinashe featuring Iggy Azalea - All Hands On Deck (#13, 2015) Just to clarify, I charted the solo version. I never even heard the Iggy version until after this dropped off. 1901. Queensryche - Get Started (#17, 2011) No.
