LOL The Beatles suck! If not them, some other band would have eventually done similar music... which would have made them sucky as well

“Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore” was one of the first 80’s songs that I really loved. I heard a lot of their hits when I was younger but I didn’t really become a fan of theirs until 2006 when I started listening to AT40. Kevin Cronin has a very distinctive voice that I really like – although, my favorite song of theirs is sung by their bassist Bruce Hall. MWAHAHAHAHA. I purposely worded my hint for this group the way I did so you guys would think Linda was #74 - trust me, Legend Godstadt won't be appearing on here for awhile. Anyway, as for Hall & Oates, same situation as REO Speedwagon – heard them growing up but didn’t become a fan until I became an 80’s whore. Actually, I remember the first time I heard the name Hall & Oates – it was in late 2004 when Bebe Reptar kept playing their cover of “I’ll Be Around” by The Spinners on Variety FM, and at the time I thought it was awful. I haven’t heard that song since but knowing me I’d probably like it now. Their music is fun pop with a little bit of R&B/soul. Some of my favorites include “Maneater”, “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)”, “Out Of Touch”, and my favorite… Another group I got into through AT40. I always thought they were very unique – they mix classic arena rock with new wave and it works very well. They have a lot of great songs, but my favorite is this early track of theirs from 1979: As a child of the 90’s, some of you may be surprised when I tell you that I initially did not like Matchbox 20. I was first introduced to them in early 1998, when “3AM” was on the charts. VH1 played the music video all the time and this was during a time when I would not touch rock music with a ten-foot pole. I was SO annoyed with their video being on all the time and, actually, they were probably the first band that I really did not like. However, a year later, Santana’s “Smooth” with Rob Thomas came out and I really liked that song (although that’s another one that got quite overplayed ), so I ended up giving MB20 another chance. My brother and I watched the TRL premiere of “Bent” and I absolutely loved it. It’s still my favorite song from them and one of my favorite songs of all-time. As for their pre-“Bent” material… I’ve grown to enjoy it since then and I even own Yourself Or Someone Like You. “Real World” in particular is a huge favorite of mine. I wish they would go back to stuff like that and not One Direction rip-offs like “She’s So Mean”. Oh well. :/ I LOVED this woman growing up!! I used to hear “Unbreak My Heart” (still my favorite from her) and her hits from her debut album on the radio all the time, and VH1 and MTV played “You’re Makin’ Me High” quite a bit. I LOVED her voice and her confidence. And “He Wasn’t Man Enough” was my JAM in the summer of 2000! I’d love it if she made a comeback, especially since I still like what she’s doing today – “Hurt You” sounded straight out of the late 90’s. COMING UP:
66. A legendary musician who was featured on a song on Christina Aguilera’s Back To Basics album. 67. A legendary musician who was featured on a song on Mariah Carey’s Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse album. 68. Yet another artist we lost way soon. I think the way we lost this person was especially messed up. 69. This band had the first heavy metal album to go to #1 on the Billboard 200. 70. 1/4 of Damn Yankees!

The very first Styx song I heard just so happens to be the one they all hate – “Mr. Roboto”. I first heard it back in March 2006 on the second American Top 40 show I ever heard from March 1983. I always liked it, and I have nothing against Dennis DeYoung and his more… theatrical approach, but I prefer the Styx songs with Tommy Shaw on lead vocals, like “Renegade”, “Too Much Time On My Hands”, and my favorite, this gem from 1978: Another band I was introduced to through AT40! I first heard “Cum On Feel The Noize” back in either November or December of 2006 and I loved it. The entire Metal Health album is a heavy metal classic, there are SO many great songs on there, like “Let’s Get Crazy” and “Don’t Wanna Let You Go”. They had some great material after that too like “The Wild And The Young”, and of course let’s not forget their late frontman Kevin DuBrow’s background vocals on Starship’s “Rock Myself To Sleep”. However, not counting “Rock Myself To Sleep”, my favorite song from them has always been this – one of my favorite heavy metal songs right here! Come on man, who doesn’t love John Lennon aside from @wife? I liked how outspoken he was, especially about spreading peace (why can’t today’s artists talk about that??). And of course the music was great too – I always loved “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” growing up, and “Imagine” is a classic. However, my favorite John Lennon song is one that, despite being a #1 hit, I first heard last November! Yup, I NEVER heard “Whatever Gets You Through The Night” before until last year when AT40 did a show from November 1974. But it’s an awesome song, and it has Elton on background vocals! I don’t remember how I was introduced to Stevie Wonder. I’ve been familiar with him since I first started getting into music. But he has to be one of the most talented artists EVER – I always loved his voice, and his harmonica playing is very distinctive. When I listened to Mariah Carey’s song “Make It Look Good” from her latest album, once the harmonica part started I knew right away it was him. Also, you know I think very highly of your music when I have a VERY difficult time picking a favorite song of yours – I wasn’t sure if I should post “Sir Duke”, “You Haven’t Done Nothin’”, or “That Girl”, as they are all fantastic songs, but in the end I decided that this was my favorite from him: Steve Winwood has been around since the 60’s, with bands such as Traffic, Blind Faith, and The Spencer Davis Group. However, he was one of my earliest 80’s core artists! WALK-FM used to play his 80’s hits ALL THE TIME and I loved them all – “Valerie”, “Roll With It”, “The Finer Things”, “Back In The High Life Again”. But the one from him that I always LOVED – and is still one of my all-time favorites – is this pop perfection from 1986: COMING UP:
61. A female heavy metal musician who I had the pleasure of speaking to back in 2009. Hmmm… 62. A hard rock band whose most famous song has what is quite possibly the most iconic guitar riff ever. 63. Eeek! 64. A 90’s alternative band whose bassist played a character on the Nickelodeon cartoon The Wild Thornberrys. 65. A Canadian singer/songwriter who founded one of the biggest music festivals of the 90’s.

Killer set of bands! It's funny because my show is always full of these "geezers" (much to Green Baron's dismay) yet you don't listen anymore, lol.

John Lennon and Stevie Wonder = LEGENDS. Pretty much sums it up, 2 of the greatest musicians ever. Styx, Quiet Riot and Steve Winwood all have plenty of good songs too. Hmm, you must be fooling us into thinking Lita is #61 but there's no way she's not top 5, so it has to be Doro.

Sarah McLachlan was one of the first artists I ever loved (and also one of my chart’s early core artists back in 2003-2005). I was first introduced to her after seeing the music video for “Adia” on VH1 – that song was the first single I owned. She has a beautiful voice and is incredibly talented. Surfacing and Afterglow were both great albums. I especially loved the singles from the former – “Adia”, “Building A Mystery”, “Angel”, and this one, which has grown to become my favorite from her in recent years. I wasn’t a HUGE Chili Peppers fan when I first started getting into music because, again, I wouldn’t touch rock music with a ten-foot pole. However, I did like “Scar Tissue”, “Under The Bridge”, and “Californication”. I didn’t start getting more into their music though until around 2006 when “Dani California” was on the charts. I wasn’t even that mad at them when that song knocked Pearl Jam’s “World Wide Suicide” from #1 on alternative because that was also one of my favorite songs of that year. But anyway, they are one of the few rock bands who, in my opinion, still makes great music today. I thought “Look Around” from their last album was incredibly underrated and I would even go as far to say that I think it’s one of their best songs. However, it’s not my favorite from them, because that honor would go to… I’m sure only FreakyFlyBry understood the hint I gave for these guys – especially since he was the one who reminded me about this when I met him back in June. Back in 2005-2006 when I was an angsty preteen who wanted to ~rebel~ from pop music, I went through this phase where I pretty much thought disco was evil, which is especially hilarious now in retrospect because of what a 70’s whore I’ve become, but anyway, I used to call the Bee Gees “The Eeek! Gees”, because apparently my 13-year-old self couldn’t think of a better insulting nickname. But before 2005, I loved the Bee Gees! WALK-FM used to play disco music every Saturday night, and a lot of disco music, especially the stuff from them as well as Donna Summer (whose still to come), brings back a lot of memories from my childhood. I still can’t listen to “Stayin’ Alive” or “Night Fever” without thinking of those summers in Rocky Point. Speaking of “Night Fever”, that’s my favorite song from them! I started getting into Deep Purple around 2009-2010 during my hard rock/heavy metal phase. I heard some songs from them during that time like “Smoke On The Water” of course, as well as “Highway Star”, “Burn”, “Perfect Strangers”, etc. But the song that REALLY made me a fan of theirs (and is still my favorite from them) was the incredibly badass JAM that is “Space Truckin’”. Ritchie Blackmore was such a great guitar player (I will most likely elaborate on that later though as his other non-Renaissance band, Rainbow, is still to come). Doro Pesch, or as I like to call her, German Lita! I was first introduced to Doro Pesch and her former band Warlock back in August 2008. I was watching a very well done documentary on heavy metal called Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey about this heavy metal fan named Sam Dunn who interviewed a bunch of people about heavy metal culture including musicians, people behind the scenes, and even groupies. At one point in the movie, they talked about female-fronted metal, and they interviewed the band Girlschool (who just BARELY missed this list), as well as Doro. As someone who has a history of LOVING female rockers, I had to go check out both of these bands. Hopefully Lars Ulrich won’t see this, but I went on Limewire and looked up “Doro” and downloaded pretty much anything that came up. The first song I listened to was a 1987 Warlock album track titled “Kiss Of Death”, and it was love at first listen. Doro Pesch quickly became one of the pioneers/core artists of my heavy metal phase, to the point where I had the chance to speak to her back in March 2009 when she was a guest on Eddie Trunk’s XM radio show. I called because I wanted to know if she planned on doing any shows in the US, since she primarily tours in other countries. I was nervous as f*ck but she was such a sweetheart! https%3A//soundcloud.com/user936717431/jessielou-speaks-to-doro-pesch-on-eddie-trunk-live-march-23-2009Ironically, despite being a heavy metal artist, my favorite song of hers is quite possibly her most pop-friendly song. It’s a solo song – a ballad from 1998 called “Love Me In Black”. Absolutely stunning song. COMING UP:
56. The diva that Matt grew up with. 57. A 90’s alternative band from Tennessee. 58. Hey look! Another 90’s alternative band! Except this one is from Arizona. 59. An 80’s group who has worked with Timbaland, caused me to start ranting about the UK charts on a regular basis when their song flopped, and covered a Grandmaster Flash song. Very interesting resume right there. 60. A solo female from the 70’s.
