Pasting what I just posted on facebook:
I remember when I was younger my dad and I always talked about when I was old enough to one day going to Las Vegas and see Rodney Dangerfield live. He was one of our favorites, whenever it was announced he'd be on The Tonight Show, it became appointment television for both of us, something very rare, considering our television tastes connected few and far between. When I read about Rodney's passing, I was heartbroken because we never were able to go see him. What made it hit even harder was he died of surgical complications from a procedure my dad had undergone just months prior.
I have known about Joan Rivers as far back as I can remember. Whether it was hearing her name in passing, over hearing an impression of her somewhere (oh OH! oh grow up!) About 5 of 6 years ago, I did something I never thought I would do and that was see her live. I had an opportunity fall on my lap, and decided "why not," because who knows when (or if) I would get that opportunity again. I never got to see Rodney, and I wasn't going to let this one slip. She was on a co-headline tour with Don Rickles. I'd seen her so much on tv and online, I laughed, I cried, I sometimes didn't get the jokes, but I knew she was amazing. And when I saw her that night, she exceeded my expectations. There was not a moment that night where I could stop to catch my breath. I had the opportunity to catch her act again a couple of years later. This time, it was a little bit more difficult to enjoy 100% because I was in the upper level near the end, and I was afraid I was going to fall over cause she was just so incredible.
What I think has kept Joan Rivers relevant to this day is the fact that she has kept herself up with the times. Yeah, she was in her 70s, then 80s, but still, she had the balls to say exactly what you were thinking and take it to the next level. The more she was dared, the more daring she became. Her brand never went stale. The mold was broken when she came about (and several more times with those surgeries). The world is at a loss without Joan, but I am grateful that I was able to have those opportunities, because those are some that will never happen again. So many of my favorites are gone now. Joan, Rodney, George Burns, the list goes on.
Thank you for all the laughs Joan. To say you will be missed is an understatement. They say laughter is the best medicine, and thank God for youtube because I think I'm gonna have an overdose on Joan tonight.

Doesn't one of the Sebastian Prospero songs feature her?
I don't mean to minimize her death by bringing that up, I'm just saying. May she rest in peace.

She was hilarious; a talent in the entertainment world. When I think of Joan Rivers I am not "gutted" or sad though. It is like when George Carlin passed away. I think about their amazing life! They left us with a plethora of material and they wouldn't appreciate anything but jokes after their death. My final thought is morbid: We all die. These two happened to die at ages where it is difficult to say "Life's not fair".
