Wednesday night, I had the Windows Update icon in my system tray, indicating that Windows had found updates and wanted me to download and install them. So I did that and restarted the computer as it told me to. Today, the Windows Update icon continues to pop back up in my system tray and only has me download 1 update...the same update every single time: a Security Tool for Excel 2003. This is what happens. I install the update and then about five minutes later, it tells me to download and install the update again.
I have my Windows Task Manager open while all of this is happening and the wuauclt.exe file has been running constantly for nearly two hours now, which I know isn't supposed to happen. It usually drops off the Task Manager after about 20 minutes. In fact, at one point, there were 3 wuauclt.exe running in my Windows Task Mamnager. I know this can't be right. There also seems to be an mxiexec.exe file open that I've never seen there before. All of this seems very fishy. I feel like something's not right.
Could someone please advise me on how to get Windows Update to stop running in this endless loop...and whether or not this is somehow related to a virus. I appreciate any help anyone is able to give!

Sounds like it might be malware. Especially if it's for Excel 2003, I didn't even think they were still doing updates for that. If you're still working fine, I'd say ignore it when it pops up.
