As host of this season of the M4BCC Song Contest, I'm planning on keeping many of the rules and procedures the same as they were last season. However, there's been some discussion about whether or not to continue the weekly themes. Now, normally on reality shows, once you sign a contract (aka... sign your life away), you'll do whatever the f*ck the show's producers tell you to do - no questions asked - or you'll be forced to pay a huge fine and get bounced from the show. However, we here at the M4BCC Song Contest like input from our contestants and viewers. So please vote. Do you want to keep the weekly themes from last season or do away with them? Vote "yes" to keep the themes. Vote "no" to get rid of them. Once the deadline for registration ends on Thursday (September 5), whichever option has the most votes will win! Yay!

No, get rid of them! Let's say you choose salsa, merengue, reggaeton, mariachi, norteño and banda. I seriously think this game should be so we can show others music they don't know (and we love), and not about seeing how good a player you are by choosing songs you might hate just so you can fit the theme any given week.

I'm with Ari Safari. Themes are fun and all but I enjoy checking out new music - looking at some past Song Contest spreadsheets, I have discovered some great songs through this game. "What About" by Janet Jackson, "Sugar" by Tori Amos, and even a dance remake of "I Touch Myself" that got to #2 on my chart.

I think themes is a really bad idea.

Awwww... I was planning to have one of the themes be "Songs Ari Will Hate Having To Listen To And Vote On." And another week was going to be "Artists Jess Hates" week! Darn! If I were to use themes, they wouldn't be centered around a specific artist or genre of music. It would be more like what Josh did last time: "Your Favorite Song That Hit #1," "Songs That You Have A Sentimental Connection To" or "Songs That Make You Cry" (not necessarily those exact categories, but those are examples). I don't care if themes are used or not. Either way is fine with me. But to play devil's advocate for those of you who are anti-Themes... What if the theme is "Songs That Make You Cry" and Dan submits "Drunk Dial Dilemma" - this really great, heartfelt ballad that Kesha recorded for her first album. Ari listens to it and is blown away by how great it is. Not being a fan of hers (I'm making an educated guess here, based on Ari's musical taste ), Ari would've never heard "Drunk Dial Dilemma" otherwise. Now, he has discovered a new song that he wouldn't have stumbled across under normal circumstances. That's assuming that Ari doesn't already make up his mind that the song is horrible when he clicks on the YouTube link and sees it's a Kesha song. But you get my point... Anyway... Looking forward to this! I hope more people will sign up to play!

LOL!!!!! jajajajja I get what you're saying Jason and it has merit, but... allow me to not know what to say and make more arguments if you please <3 For example, songs that peak at 1. I assume we would be talking about billboard charts or something like that, and at least in my case, that would be way too restricting, since I usually do not even chart those songs. I want to play this game, so if themes end up being accepted, I will just have to suck it up and play lol

I don't think you'll have anything to worry about, Ari. I have a feeling we won't be using Themes this time around.

Don't forget to vote in the poll regarding the continued use of Themes for the upcoming edition of the Song Contest. There are 6 votes, but 11 participants! To have full disclosure, if it turns out that we don't use Themes for this edition of the Song Contest, I'm going to say that hit songs can't be submitted either. It wouldn't be fair for one person to submit "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson while another contestant submits "Existential Love Song" by Phrenology Head.

Just wanted to post another reminder to vote in the poll to decide whether we'll use weekly themes this "season" or not use them at all. For those of you who didn't play last season or aren't familiar with the M4BCC Song Contest. In previous seasons, participants were only allowed to submit non-singles and/or album tracks each week as the song to represent them in that week's round. Last season, Josh allowed us to submit ANY song we wanted to, as long as it followed that week's theme (ie. "A song you really liked growing up," "Duets," "Favorite Song To Slow Dance To," "Song That Gets You On The Dancefloor," et al). That meant you could submit the most popular song ever released, if you wanted to. Prior to the start of the upcoming season, there's been some discussion about whether or not to use weekly themes again, so I've decided to put it to a vote. Whichever option has the most votes by 11:30pm North American Eastern Time on Thursday, September 5 will affect how the M4BCC Song Contest is played this season. So far, I've only got 8 votes, but we have 14 people signed up to play. So get those votes in Jawshii , Courage , @bestintheworld , @cdennisfan , Julian , goodie ! Also, those of you who aren't planning to participate can vote too. What the audience thinks is just as important as what the participants think. Thanks in advance for voting and thanks to those who have already voted.

And just because I like to bitch: I am ok with choosing songs that were released as singles, but not so ok with songs that became huge hits. Whatever!
