10 – 7

10 | #11 | Aurea – Okay, alright Points: 1857,4 Peak: #1 Weeks: 22 Album: Aurea Aurea is a big sensation on my chart this year and ahe could have been done better If I would have re-charted earlier than in March. I’ve never believed that this kind of music (the combination of soul and jazz) is something I would like to listen, but the first time I listened to “Okay, alright” I definitely liked it. She had big success in her home country Portugal with “Busy (for me)” which peaked at #1. “Okay, alright”, originally released in 2008, entered the Portuguese Charts right after her success with “Busy (for me)”. It’s an easy-going song which allows to simply lean back to enjoy the music.
9 | no charting success | 77 Bombay Street – In the war Points: 1949,0 Peak: #2 Weeks: 27 Album: Up in the sky Until now 77 Bombay Street had five songs on my year-end chart. Although “In the war” didn’t peak at #1 it reached #9 on my year-end review. Some people think that this song is too nonchalantly in its sound in relation to the lyrics. But for me it is the combination of the sound and the lyrics which I prefer. Further on this song reminds me to my childhood favourite song “99 Luftballons” by Lena, because her song had absolutely the same theme. “In the war” isn’t the last song of 77 Bombay Street in this countdown. With “Up in the sky” they have one song which did better. Which charting position did this song get?
8 | no charting success | Brandon Flowers – Jilted lovers and broken hearts Points: 1982,2 Peak: #1 Weeks: 28 Album: Flamingo After several weeks at the top of Bluezombies chart I tried to give this song a chance. And the rest is history. It started bumpy, but in its 11th week “Jilted lovers and broken hearts” climbed up to #1 and stayed there for two weeks. It’s a very strong song and I definitely hope that there are some more good songs in the future.
7 | no charting success | Scars on 45 – Give me something Points: 2006,6 Peak: #1 Weeks: 29 Album: Give me something The English band from Bradford released early in 2011 their first EP. Their debut with “Give me something” reached #1 in its 7th week and could hold this position until 77 Bombay Street also scored their first #1. “Give me something” is a very catchy tune and is a solid debut by this band. It definitely won’t be a one hit wonder on my chart, because their recent single could enter my chart in a few weeks. |
