Week 597 – August 6^th, 2022

The Top 10 hasn’t seen a lot of action in this week’s edition. Morgan Wade is now topping the chart with “Last cigarette” (#1) for a third week which is now her biggest hit. Directly behind is “Lies” (#2) by Pale Waves. Completing the non-moving Top 3 is “Mariposas” (#3, “Butterflies”) by sangiovanni & Aitana. Next in line and holding its spot too is “Message in a bottle” (#4) by Taylor Swift. The only new song in the Top 5 is “sad = sexy” (#5) by Esther Graf. “sad = sexy” is her 4th Top 10 in 2022.

Absolutely near the Top 5 is country pop by Karley Scott Collins. Her song “Tattoos” (#6) climbed up one spot. Dropping out of the Top 5 is former #1 hit “En el coche” (#7, “In the car”) by Aitana. This one is followed by “What I want” (#8) by Muna. I really like this one and maybe it will enter the Top 5. “Von dir ein Tattoo” (#9, “A tattoo of you”) dropped three spots. Therefore Austrian Josh. is on his way out of the Top 10. The only new song in this section is “This hell” (#10) by Rina Sawayama

The greatest gainer is once again “Selfish” (#56) by Bow Anderson after climbing up 16 spots. Last week saw a debut in the Top 30. This week the highest debut is in at #76. It is “ilu” by Elijah Woods. It is a nice song, but I’m not sure if this one will see such highs as last week’s highest debut. Other debuts are “Different when you’re 17” (#79) by Alana Springsteen, “Hello” (#80) by Avril Lavigne, “Right on time” (#83) by Lindsay Ell, “Sad girls don’t cry” (#85) by Maddie Larkin, “One too” (#87) by Dallas Smith feat. Week 598 – August 13^th, 2022

Morgan Wade is still having fun at the top of the chart with “Last cigarette” (#1). This song is now topping the chart for four consecutive weeks which is the longest run at the top since “She’s all I wanna be” (#30) by Tate McRae earlier this year. Still in the hunt is “Lies” (#2) by Pale Waves. The released their album two days ago and I absolutely love their songs. Maybe “Lies” is going all the way up by next week. “Mariposas” (#3) by sangiovanni & Aitana is also non-moving. Up one spot is “sad = sexy” (#4) by Esther Graf. This song swapped spots with “Message in a bottle” (#5) by Taylor Swift.

After climbing up 18 spots another single by Pale Waves reached the Top 10. “Jealousy” (#6) is also awarded with the greatest gainer of the week. This song is followed by “What I want” (#7) by Muna. “Tattoos” (#8) by Karley Scott Collins dropped two spots and should leave the Top 10 by next week. Rina Sawayama climbed up one spot with her biggest hit “This hell” (#9) so far. This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with the Top 10 return by P!nk with “Irrelevant” (#10).

The highest debut landed within the Top 50, but missed the Top 40 by three spots. It is another collaboration between Norwegian DJ Kygo and Australian singer Dean Lewis. Their latest song “Lost without you” landed at #43. Their other song “Never really loved me” can still be found at #63. For the 2nd highest debut, you must dig a little bit deeper. It is “La loto” (#72, “The lotto”). This song is a collaboration between Argentine singer TINI, US singer Becky G and Brasilian star Anitta. Week 599 – August 20^th, 2022

After four weeks at the Top Morgan Wade had to leave with her monster hit “Last cigarette” (#2). It dropped one spot and was replaced by Pale Waves. They score their 1st #1 with “Lies” (#1) from their 3rd album “Unwanted” – which is by the way the 1st album I bought from them. New in the Top 3 is “sad = sexy” (#3) by Austrian singer Esther Graf who had one #1 early this year with “Red flags”. Up two spots and new in the Top 5 is “Jealousy” (#6) which is another hit song by Pale Waves. Dropping two spots is former candidate for #1 “Mariposas” (#5, “Butterflies” (#5) by sangiovanni & Aitana.

“Message in a bottle” (#6) by Taylor Swift had to leave the Top 5 for the first time in five weeks. This song is followed by Muna’s “What I want” (#7) which is holding its spot. Up one spot is “This hell” (#8) by Rina Sawayama. She is constantly releasing singles since the early 2010’s, but she reached the top spheres for the first time with “This hell”. Before that she only charted with “Beg for you” (peaked at #95 earlier this year) where she was featured on a Charli XCX song. Next in line is “Irrelevant” (#9) by Pink which climbed up one spot. This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with the only new song in this section. “You ruined Nirvana” (#10) by Mckenna Grace reached the Top 10 after climbing up 6 spots. For Mckenna Grace this is her 1st Top 10 hit in her young career.

“Stupid” (#39) is awarded with the award for the greatest gainer of the week. This sleeper hit climbed up 13 spots in its 6th charting week. Not far behind you can find the highest debut which is by Ali Gatie. His song “IDK” is debuting at #43 and is now his highest charting song. Before that his 2019 hit “It’s you” (peaked at #75) had done best for him. This song is also the only debut within the Top 50. The 2nd highest debut is by Danish-Japanese singer Mina Okabe. This song has been released in May 2021 and now this song debuts. Sure I’m a little bit late with this one. On the other hand this song has a similar vibe as last years hit “OK love you bye” by Olivia Dean which had been originally released in 2019. So there is a big chance for this song to reach the Top 10.

Week 600 – August 27^th, 2022

11 and a half year or 600 weeks since I did my first chart after a longer pause. How time flies. Back then a song by an Austrian band – who disbanded in the meanwhile – had the opening #1. Unfortunately Esther Graf couldn’t take over in this historic edition. So British band Pale Waves are celebrating their 2nd week on top with “Lies” (#1). Their other song “Jealousy” (#3) did the last step to enter the podium. Caught between is former #1 “Last cigarette” (#2) by Morgan Wade. Esther Graf’s “sad = sexy” (#4) dropped one spot and had to leave the podium. Holding its spot in the Top 5 is “Mariposas” (#5) by sangiovanni & Aitana.

Japanese singer Rina Sawayama is knocking at the door to the Top 5 with “This hell” (#6) after climbing up two spots. Also, up two spots is Pink with “Irrelevant” (#7). And there is another song which climbed up two spots. It is “What he didn’t do” (#8) by Carly Pearce. These songs let “Message in a bottle” (#9) by Taylor Swift behind which dropped three spots. This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with the only new song in this part of the chart. Returning is British singer Dylan who had earlier this year a big smash with “No Romeo”. Now she reached this part with “Girl of your dreams” (#10) after climbing up two spots.

After a short pause Scottish singer Bow Anderson was again awarded with the greatest gainer of the week. Her song “Selfish” (#16) climbed up 15 spots. Unfortunately for her she had so share this award with Mina Okabe. Her song “Every second” (#39) also climbed up 15 spots. As always, this information is followed by the information for the highest debut. This week it is a song from the Netflix film “Purple hearts”. Sofia Cason didn’t chart with the released single “Come back home”. With this song I personally have my problems although I’ve served as conscript in the Austrian army where I eventually became a private. I went with the song “I hate the way” (#51) which I believe just has been released as a regular single from the soundtrack.

Week 602 – September 10^th, 2022

Tomorrow the new school year is starting, and I can celebrate this fact with a new #1. In fact only the song changed, but not the band. So still at the top Pale Waves can be found. Their song “Jealousy” (#1) climbed up one spot and swapped spots with “Lies” (#2). This is the only change in the Top 5. This means that “Last cigarette” (#3) by Morgan Wade is still at the podium. “Sad = sexy” (#4) by Esther Graf is once more missing the Top 3 by one spot and “Irrelevant” (#5) by Pink is rounding out this week’s Top 5.

“What he didn’t do” (#6) by Carly Pearce climbed up one spot and could earn her the first Top 5 appearance soon. Also up one spot are “Girl of your dreams” (#7) by Dylan and “All these nights” (#8) by Tom Grennan. These three songs left former Top 3 smash “Mariposas” (#9) by sangiovanni & Aitana behind. Another week in the Top 10 got “This hell” (#10) by Rina Sawayam.

I personally haven’t heard a lot of MisterWives in the past. This week the are very strong after climbing up 15 spots with Easy which is awarded for the greatest gainer of the week. As always, this information is followed by the new entries. This week saw 16 new songs and six of these songs entered the Top 50. The highest one is by Italian singer Annalissa. Her Italian summer smash “Tropicana” with Boomdabash failed to enter my chart. Now she returns with her follow up “Bellissima” (#42, “Extremely beautiful”). I really like this one and so I predict a big climb in the next edition. This debut is directly followed by the debut of “How do I say goodbye” (#43) by Dean Lewis. His new single is a very emotional song, and I absolutely can comprehend his feelings as my dad has dementia as well as cancer. These two songs are followed by a Pale Waves triple. The higher ranked debut by them is “Clean” (#45). The others are “Reasons to live” (#46) and “The hard way” (#47).

Week 603 – September 17^th, 2022

Last week Pale Waves reached #1 with “Jealousy” (#1). This week they defended the title and are still in hunt with former #1 “Lies” (#2). In fact the whole Top 3 is holding their spots so “Last cigarette” (#3) by Morgan Wade is completing the podium. Also non-moving is Esther Graf with her song “sad = sexy” (#4). While these songs are holding their spots you will be surprised about the song at #5. This song is definitely coming out of nowhere.

As you all know my chart you’ve noticed that there are hardly any debuts in the Top 20 or even in the Top 10 since the last four or five years. Before that there have been Top 20 debuts on a regular basis. So that there is a debut in the Top 10 is a big surprise. For that I’ve looked in the record books. The last time a song debuted in the Top 20 had been back in April (nearly five months ago) with “Something better” (#22) by Anouk. This song later failed to reach #1. The last song which debuted in the Top 10 had been “Ein Lied für jetzt” (“A song for now”) by German band Die Ärzte. This song not only debuted in the Top 10 it also debuted at #1 when it started its chart run in March 2020.

So this is the 1st Top 10 debut since two and a half year. Now you all will know which band is doing so well. It is by a band I’m a fan since their debut in the early 2000’s. They started their career with the hit “Perfekte Welle” (“Perfect wave”) in 2004 which peaked at #2 in Germany and Austria. Their 2nd hit had been “Geile Zeit” (“The perfect time”). Both songs are Juli’s signature songs and these are among my favourite songs of all time. After a break of nearly eight years, they are finally back. If you count their last single “Fahrrad” (“Bicycle”, peaked #91) in Mai 2019 its only three years, but “Fahrrad” was their only single in five years. Technically they haven’t released anything significant in eight years when they released their last album “Insel” (“Island”). This album also produced the bands last big hits. “Wasserfall” (peaked at #18 in 2015) became their last hit in the Top 20 and with “Insel” (peaked at #1 in September 2014) they had their only #1 since I re-started charting back in 2011.

It lasted eight years before Juli returned to the Top 10. Their new single “Fette wilde Jahre” (#5, “Big wild years”) is a reminiscence to the youth on the one hand and to both mentioned singles “Perfekte Welle” and “Geile Zeit” on the other hand. I really love the vibe of the song which makes me feel nearly 20 years younger when the band released their first big hits and I was studying mathematics and history in Salzburg back in these days. Somehow I miss these days and “Fette wilde Jahre” is a perfect gem to wallow in nostalgia. For me this song has everything to reach #1 and so be prepared that this band will get their first #1 since 2014. Nearly a decade after their 1st one on my chart.

After wallowing in the past let’s get back on track. The song which failed to enter the Top 5 because of this debut is “What he didn’t do” (#6) by Carly Pearce. “Irrelevant” (#7) by Pink dropped out of the Top 5. Next in line is “Girl of your dreams” (#8) by Dylan which dropped one spot. For the first time in the Top 10 is Canadian singer Ali Gatie. His song “IDK” (#9) climbed up two spots. Also new in the Top 10 are Kygo and Dean Lewis with their song “Lost without you” (#10) after climbing up four spots.

Last week Italian singer Annalisa returned with her new single. This week “Bellissima” (#24, “Extremely beautiful”) by her is the greatest gainer of week after climbing up 18 spots. Normally, this information is followed by the information of the highest debut. As this week saw a Top 10 debut you’ve already read about this info. But there are two more debuts in this week’s Top 20. I can’t even remember when there are three songs debuting in the Top 20. Maybe you ask if this is really my chart I’ve to answer yes! The 2nd best debut is by Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen. Her songs always have been hit or miss for me. Although not a big of her last single “Beach house” got some weeks on chart. Now she returns strong with “Talking to yourself” (#14) which could do as well as “Cut to the feeling” (peaked #1 in 2017) and “Now that I found you” (peaked at #3 in 2019). And last but not least Austrian singer Esther Graf is debuting with her newest “Into it” (#20). By the way I don’t really like that she is using English song titles although the songs are in German.

Week 604 – September 24^th, 2022

Last week’s house cleaning is continued with more 13 more new entries and in total 100 debuts over the last six weeks. The last time when there were less than 10 debuts in a week where at the beginning of July. It’s absolutely insane and I can’t believe that there is one more debut in the Top 20 this week too. So, let’s start with the first things first.

Pale Waves are defending the crown with “Jealousy” (#1) once more, but they are under pressure. Last week’s top debut “Fette wilde Jahre” (#2, “Big wild years”) by Juli climbed up three spots and is now in the runner’s up position. They should do the last step by next week. Because of that Pale Waves’ “Lies” (#3) dropped one spot and is completing the podium. Also, down one spot is former #1 “Last cigarette” (#4) by Morgan Wade. “What he didn’t do” (#5) by Carly Pearce eventually reached the Top 5 in its 9th charting week.

Ali Gatie is knocking heavily at the door to the Top 5. His song “IDK” (#6) climbed up three spots. Directly behind you can find the highest ranked out of two new songs in the Top 10. Danish-Japanese singer Mina Okabe reached the Top 10 for the first time with “Every second” (#7). One spot behind there is the other new song. It is “Talking to yourself” (#8) by Carly Rae Jepsen. She is finally back in the Top 10 with surely her biggest hit in time. Austrian singer Esther Graf dropped with “Sad = sexy” (#9) five spots. “Lost without you” (#10) by Kygo & Dean Lewis is holding its spot.

As always, this information is followed by the one about the greatest gainer of the week. In German speaking countries singer/actress Nina Chuba is shooting through the roof. Although she had released singles on a regular basis since 2018, she reached the charts only once and that with a big bang (reaching #1 in Germany and Austria and #6 in Switzerland). Her song “Wildberry Lillet” (#60) has a fresh sound, but it is also criticized for its lyrics with the “want it all” attitude. I personally had little problems with the song too, but know it is the greatest gainer of the week. Not bad for a song I didn’t like at first.

Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi returns with a big debut. Last week three songs managed to enter the Top 20 and in this week’s edition Lewis Capaldi equalized. His song recently reached #1 in Great Britain and now he returned with “Forget me” at #19 on my chart. Maybe this one could meet his biggest hit the chart topping “Before you go” which reached #1 back in 2020. I also like the video and its reference to Wham!’s “Club Tropicana”. One more song debuted in the Top 50. It is “Closure” (#47) by Wrabel. Every now and then he is entering the chart. With “Closure” he has a potential Top 20 hit in his pocket.

Other debuts are “Love you a little bit” (#47) by Tanner Adell, “Narcissist” (#74) by Lauren Spencer-Smith, “Ist mir egal” (#83, “It don’t care”) by NESS, “Every night every morning” (#86) by Maddie & Tae, “Sucks to know you (FU)” (#88) by Mergui, “Kissed me like that” (#90) by Megan Dawson, “Hoax” (#93) and “Peace” (#94) by Taylor Swift, “What if I wasn’t done loving you?” (#96) by Fly By Midnight, “19” (#97) by Bonnie Kemplay and “El pañuelo” (#98, “The handkerchief”) by Romeo Santos & Rosalía.

Week 605 – October 1^st, 2022

Let’s welcome the new month with a new #1. German band Juli managed to get their 2nd #1 on my chart and the first in eight years with “Fette wilde Jahre” (#1, “Big wild years”). This is the comeback single of the year for me. This means that Pale Waves had to leave the top spot and “Jealousy” (#2) dropped one spot. Their other hit song “Lies” (#3) is holding its spot as well as “Last cigarette” (#4) by Morgan Wade isn’t moving. New in the Top 5 is “IDK” (#5) by Ali Gatie.
Up one spot and knocking at the door to the Top 5 is “Every second” (#6) by Mina Okabe. This is no typical song on my chart, but I love it. “Talking to yourself” (#7) by Carly Rae Jepsen is her latest smash which finally is doing well for me. Country pop ballad “What he didn’t do” (#8) by Carly Pearce dropped three spots. The collaboration “Lost without you” (#9) between Kygo and Dean Lewis climbed up one spot. The only new song in the Top 10 is rounding out this part. It is “Wie mein Herz bricht” (#10, “How my heart breaks”) by Esther Graf.

The award for the greatest gainer of the week goes again to “Wildberry Lillet” (#42) by Nina Chuba after climbing up 18 spots. This brings me to the highest debut. It is a new single by Austrian singer Revelle. Her song “Besser allein ” (#58, “Better alone " missed the Top 50, but should reach this part very soon. Things slowed down a little bit and so there is the same #1 as last week. “Fette wilde Jahre” (#1, “Big wild years”) by Juli is holding its top position. This song is followed by the non-moving songs “Jealousy” (#2) and “Lies” (#3) by Pale Waves. This top songs have new concurrence with “Every second” (#4) by Mina Okabe which climbed up two spots. Also up two spots is “Talking to yourself” (#5) by Carly Rae Jepsen.

Dropping out of the Top 5 are “IDK” (#6) by Ali Gatie and former #1 “Last cigarette” (#7) by Morgan Wade. Directly behind these songs is the next one by Pale Waves. Their single “Clean” (#8) climbed up six spots to reach a spot within the Top 10. Next in line is “Wie mein Herz brich” (#9, “How my heart breaks”) by Esther Graf. The 2nd new song in this part is from the soundtrack to “Purple hearts”. “I hate the way” (#10) by Sofia Carson did this last step with a one spot climb.

Week 607 – October 15^th, 2022

For now three weeks are Juli topping the chart with their hit single “Fette wilde Jahre” (#1, “Big wild years”). Absolutely love this song and it is surely one of my favourites by them. Directly behind you can find Carly Rae Jepsen. Her song “Talking to yourself” (#2) climbed up two spots to reach her first Top 3 hit in years. Then there is a double pack by Pale Waves and their former #1’s. Still at the podium is “Jealousy” (#3). Their 1st #1 “Lies” (#3) also dropped one spot and had to leave the Top 3. For “Every second” (#5) by Mina Okabe the signs show and end for the Top 5 run.

Not far behind the Top 5 is another song by Pale Waves. Their song “Clean” (#6) climbed up two spots. Also, up two spots is “Wie mein Herz bricht” (#7, “How my heart breaks”) by Esther Graf. One spot up is the new song “Into it” (#8) by Esther Graf. Therefore, she now has again two songs in the Top 10. “IDK” (#9) by Ali Gatie dropped three spots and should leave the Top 10 by next week. As last week “I hate the way” (#10) by Sofia Carson is rounding out the Top 10.

The greatest gainer of the week is “Bei dir” (#37, “With you”) by Louis Held feat. Revelle. Their song climbed up 27 spots and absolutely deserves this award. For the highest debut you have to go a little bit down the chart. It is by German singer LEA. This week I’m debuting two songs from her album “Fluss” (“River”). The higher ranked is “Gewitter” (#58, “Thunderstorm”) and the other one is “4-Zimmer-Wohnung (#59, “4 room apartment”). Other debuts are “Used to know me” (#86) by Charli XCX, “I miss you (skin to skin)” (#88) by Dylan Conrique, “Geen tranen meer over” (#91, “No more tears left”) and “Window shopping” (#96) by Yorke & Joan.

Week 609 – October 29^th, 2022

Juli’s reign lasted only four weeks. With this in mind it is clear that “Fette wilde Jahre” (#2) dropped. New #1 is “Talking to yourself” (#1) by Carly Rae Jepsen. After five years she is topping the chart again. New at #3 is “Clean” by Pale Waves. This song is leading a pack of three songs by them. Dropping out of the Top 3 is “Jealousy” (#4) which swapped its spot with “Clean”. New in the Top 5 is last week’s Top 10 debut “Reasons to live” (#5) by them.
For that song “Wie mein Herz bricht” (#6, “How my heart breaks”) by Esther Graf had to leave this part of the chart. The first and only song holding its spot in this week’s Top 10 is “Into it” (#7) also by Esther Graf. Annalisa climbed up one spot with “Bellissima” (#8). The next two songs in the Top 10 are new songs in this part. The higher ranked one is “Forget me” (#9) by Lewis Capaldi. The other one is “Dancing in the kitchen” (#10) by LANY.

This week two songs climbed up 23 spots. Both songs are awarded for the greatest gainer of the week. The higher ranked one is “Gewitter” (#33, “Thunderstorm”) by LEA. The other one is “Reckless” (#39) by Morgan Wade. Both artists had a very good year so far. As always information for the greatest gainer is followed by the highest debut. As you all know Taylor Swift released her new album along with a new single. Finally, this single “Anti-Hero” (#21) debuts and it is the highest one. As she also released a promotional single with “Bejewelled” you can be sure to find this one to debut next week. Beside the usual information about Taylor Swift debuts there is one more song debuting in the Top 10. It is the 1st single “Die of a broken heart” (#40) in years by Olly Murs. I like this one, but I’m not sure if this one will end in the Top 20.

Other debuts are “Kiss me like the world is ending” (#56) and “Love sux” (#57) by Avril Lavigne, “No one dies from love” (#60) by Tove Lo, “Traurige Augen “ (Sad eyes ) by Julia Engelmann, “Porzellan” (#96, “Porcelain”) by Johannes Oerding and “Ein bisschen mehr” (#98, “A little bit more”) by Gregor Hägele.
