Week 509 – November 28^th, 2020

Thankfully 2020 is going fast to an end, but with one month to go there is still music in 2020 to discover. Let’s start again with the Top 10. K-Pop stars Blackpink are still dominating with their super catchy “Lovesick girls” (#1). When I first listened to K-Pop songs nearly 10 years ago I never thought that this kind of songs will ever end at the top of my personal chart. As the time went on I charted more or less regularly these songs and so I’m only surprised that it took so long until Blackpink or another K-Pop artist did this final step. Directly behind this K-Pop song you can find a song in Italian by my favourite singer out of Italy. Emma climbed up one spot with her album cut “Mascara” (#2) from “Fortuna”. New in the Top 3 are Kygo & Donna Summer with their recent single “Hot stuff”. Nice to see how these remixes by Kygo work and hopefully he is doing more such good covers. Down two spots is Kesha with her single “Little bit of love”. For me this is a good comeback, but I doubt that she will do this on a regular basis. While “Mascara” climbed up one spot her other Top 10 hit “Latina” (#5) climbed up two spots which means that Emma now has two songs within the Top 5.

“Midnight sky” (#6) by Mily Cyrus is still holding its spot although the signs show the direction to leave the Top 10 in the very near future. The last week’s young French singer Wejdene attacked the Top 3 with her catchy song “Coco” (#7). This week this song dropped three spots and so it is also on the way out of the Top 10. German singer Leolixl is non-moving with her song “Vielleicht verliebt” (#8, “Maybe in love”). Also non-moving is “Macarena” (#9) by Austrian singer Ina Regen. Up one spot and into the Top 10 is Scottish singer Bow Anderson. Her song “Island” (#10) is the first song by a Scottish artist in this part of the chart since Lewis Capaldi’s #1 “Before you go” earlier this year.

Sometimes I’m not the fastest in charting songs which are becoming hits. This time a song by a German DJ has become the victim of this factor. Tino Piontek is releasing songs since 2012 as Purple Disco Machine and failed to gain attention. In the middle of 2020 he released his latest single “Hypnotized” (#44) with British act Sophie and the Giants who are also relatively unknown. Back in these days I gave this song a listen, but it failed to impress me. Over the summer I heard this song in the radio, but I still decided not to give this song a real chance until now. With this week I jump on the bandwagon for this song too and so “Hypnotized” got its debut within the Top 50.

Week 510 – December 6^th, 2020

After five weeks at the top Blackpink had to leave with their song "Lovesick girls" (#2). They were replaced by Italian Emma and her song "Mascara" (#1) which is now her 3rd #1 in 2020. I absolutely love her "Fortuna" album and "Mascara" is no exception. This mid-tempo pop/rock song deserves this spot and although I think she had better #1's I really like this one. Still at the podium is "Hot stuff" by Kygo & Donna Summer. Next in line is the regular single "Latina" (#4) by Emma which is still climbing up in its 11th week on chart. Maybe this one continues the trend to reach the Top 3. New in the Top 5 is German singer Leolixl with "Vielleicht verliebt" (#5, "Maybe in love"). Sure I liked this song very soon, but at first I didn't thought that this one will end in the Top 10 or even in the Top 5. The time went on and this grows on me more and more so I've to point out this one is possibly the most unexpected Top 5 hit in 2020 (beside the COVID #1 by German act Die Ärzte).

Down to spots is "Little bit of love" (#6) by Kesha. This is definitely a good song, unfortunately a little bit overplayed by myself. Dropping one spot is former #1 "Midnight sky" (#7) by Miley Cyrus. Directly behind you can find "Macarena" (#8) by Ina Regen. Have I mentioned before that I don't like Los Del Rio's "Macarena"? I even can't believe that this one had been such a big hit. Even former US-President Bill Clinton had done the dance to this song. You may ask why I'm writing about this "facts". In fact I'm charting not one but two songs which are celebrating this song within my Top 10. In Ina Regen's song this is a reference to the 1990's when I good friend of her committed suicide and as I pointed out earlier in this song she is dealing with this. In Leolixl's song a girl is dancing the "Macarena" when a boy is staring at her and laughs when she did a mistake. Later the text is about a possible relationship between the girl and boy. So you see that "Macarena" is now everywhere although the original is a song which can be found on my list for songs I don't like (or say …). Falling down fast is Wejdene with "Coco" (#9) while Bow Anderson is holding the spot with "Island" (#10).

The greatest gainer of the week is "Nobody else" (#48) by LANY after climbing up 13 spots which is now the third highest ranked song from "Mama's boy" an album I like, but not love as "Malibu nights". Four songs are debuting just outside the Top 50. The highest one is another single from LEA from her album "Treppenhaus" ("Stairway"). "Du tust es immer wieder" (#52, "You keep doing it") is another good song from this album. I should definitely give this one a chance to become a part of my album collection. The 2nd best new entry is also by a familiar German singer. After "Obsolet" (#29, "Obsolete") climbed up four spots in its 10th week on chart Madeline Juno debuts with her new one "Über dich" (#58, "Over you"). While LEA is dealing with a bad relationship in her song, Madeline Juno's is singing about the ending of such a relationship. Next debut in line is "Love of your life" (#59) by Raye. She is singing about that she could be the love of the life, but I think the lyrics can be interpreted in the direction of a relationship which could also be toxic. These songs are all dealing with the same theme, but are from a different point of view.

Week 511 – December 12^th, 2020

Emma is holding the top spot with "Mascara" (#1) while "Lovesick girls" (#2) by Blackpink is stuck at #2 for a 2nd week in a row. Also holding its spot is "Hot stuff" (#3) by Kygo & Donna Summer. Up one spot is German newcomer Leolixl with her single "Vielleicht verliebt" (#4, "Maybe in love"). She swapped the spot with Emma whose song "Latina" (#5) is now definitely on its way down after climbing up last week.

Back up is "Midnight sky" (#6) by Miley Cyrus. Is this song ready for climbing into the Top 5 again? I really don't know. All I can say is maybe. New in the Top 10 are three songs. The highest ranked one is "Tsunami" (#7) by Annalisa. Also new in this part is "Ein anderer Sommer" (#9, "A different summer") by Silbermond. After I lost interest in this band over several years they are celebrating a strong comeback in 2020. Their single "In meiner Erinnerung" ("In my memory") from "Schritte" ("Steps") reached the Top 20 early in 2020. In April their song "Machen wir das Beste draus" ("Let's make the best of it") about the Corona-theme reached the Top 10. And now their new one "Ein anderer Sommer" did this step too. This song is also about Corona. Hopefully they have done this turnaround for real. And for the first time in the Top 10 is German singer badmómzjay with her emotional single "Supernova" (#10). Caught between this new songs is "Macarena" (#8) by Ina Regen.

The greatest gainer of the week is "Du tust es immer wieder" (#30, "You keep doing it") by LEA. She is constantly releasing singles from her album "Treppenhaus" ("Staircase"). All these songs are only available on the deluxe version. So it isn't surprise that her new single "Schwarz" (#57, "Black") is the highest debut. Therefor she done it in two weeks in a row. The 2nd best debut is by Martin Jensen & Alle Farben & Nico Santos. "Running back to you" (#58) is another EDM track which are doing very well in these days. Three more debuts are from Taylor Swift's 2019 album "Lover". She debuts with "Cornelia Street" (#73), "Death by a thousand cuts" (#74) and "London boy" (#75). As you know I'm debuting all songs from albums I bought and so it is taking a while before I've charted every song from the entire album. Normally I've finished charting album cuts before a new album is released. Before 2020 only Anouk released two albums within a year so that I charted two albums at once. But this is definitely nothing against Taylor Swift. At the moment I'm charting songs from her 2019 album "Lover" and her 2020 album "Folklore". And now she released "evermore". I listened to this album yesterday and I've to say that I like it, but how much only the future will tell. So I'm for the first in the position to chart three albums from one artist at once to do what I've done in the past. This is absolutely headshaking, but at the moment a third surprise album in early 2020 won't surprise me. She has the time and I'm not sure when there will be concerts in 2021.

Another week at the top is Emma with her recent hit "Mascara" (#1). I really like this song more than expected and three weeks at the top isn't bad. Still in the hunt is "Lovesick girls" (#2) by Blackpink. Up one spot and into the Top 3 is "Vielleicht verliebt" (#3, "Maybe in love") by Leolixl. This song swapped spots with "Hot stuff" (#4) by Kygo & Donna Summer. New in the Top 5 is another song in Italian. This time it is "Tsunami" (#5) by Annalisa. As the top songs are older as usual the chance is for real for Annalisa to grab her 1st #1.

Directly behind you can find the 2nd Top 10 smash by Emma. Her single "Latina" (#6) dropped one spot. Also slipping down is "Midnight sky" (#7) by Miley Cyrus after last week's comeback climb. German rap singer badmómzjay is also doing well with her emotional single "Supernova" (#8). Week 513 – December 26^th, 2020

Last Christmas I gave you … No I'm not starting with Wham!. I'm starting as every week with this week's #1. For three weeks Italian singer Emma topped the chart with her song "Mascara" (#3) which dropped two spots in this week's edition. This mtade the way free for a new #1 on this last counting chart for the year-end review 2020. Unfortunately for all listeners who are only listing to songs in English my #1 is still a song in Italian. Italian singer Annalisa is topping the chart for the first time with her recent single "Tsunami" (#1) which climbed up four spots. So in 2020 Italian songs topped my chart for now seven weeks. Still in the hunt is "Lovesick girls" (#2) by Blackpink. German Leolixl with "Vielleicht verliebt" (#4, "Maybe in love") and Kygo & Donna Summer with "Hot stuff" (#5) dropped one spot.

Directly behind the Top 5 is German rap singer badmómzjay. Her song "Supernove" (#8) climbed up two spots and if you believe that this a rap song I've to point out that she isn't rapping on this particular song. Next in line and also up two spots are LANY with their song "Heart won't let me" (#8). Emma still has two songs in the Top 10. Regrettably not only "Mascara" dropped two spots also "Latina" (#8) dropped two spots. Former #1 "Midnight sky" (#9) by Miley Cyrus is also on its way out of the Top 10 after dropping two spots in this week's edition. The only new song in the Top 10 is by German Céline. Her single "Überall" (#10, "Everywhere") climbed up three spots.

I really believe that most of you are astonished that Taylor Swift's new single "Willow" (#23) failed to enter the Top 10. Sure she can't be found in this part of the chart, but "Willow" is the greatest gainer of the week after climbing up 20 spots in its 2nd week on chart. The highest debut goes to US-newcomer Rosie Darling. Her debut single is a clear statement for her love of LANY. In the refrain she is singing "Smoking cheap pre-rolls and listening to LANY". I don't smoke, but I love LANY too (by the way I listened to them more than 1000 times in the last two years). So when I first heard "Coping" (#46) I knew that I like this song and maybe this is at least her breakthrough for me. The 2nd best new entry is by Harry Styles & Selena Gomez. And no their new entry isn't an actual single. I found a mashup by Deep End Mashups where Harry Styles "Falling" and Selena Gomez's "Lose you to love me" ended up as "Falling to love me" (#73). I like both songs and I like this mashup so it is definitely no surprise to chart this one too. I've to point out that I waited for a long time before charting this one, because early this year I also charted Kina Grannis' cover of "Lose you to love me" (peaked in the Top 10) when the original version was still in the Top 10.

Other debuts are "Beyond the pale" (#78), "Fine fine fine" (#79) and "Dirt in my eyes" (#80) by Cold War Kids, "Following the sun" (#89) by Super-Hi & Neeka – part of the group Neeka is British singer Katy Tiz who had a big hit in 2015 with "Whistle (while you work it)" –, "Forever" (#90) by Fletcher, "Viel zu jung" (#95, "Much too young"), "Magic" (#96) by Royal Republic, "Kiss you anyway" (#96) by Lucy Scholl and "Hung up on you" (#98) by Troy Cartwright.

Week 514 – January 2^nd, 2021

The new year's chart is starting as the last week of 2020. Annalisa is reigning from the throne with her smash "Tsunami" (#1). Still in the hunt is "Lovesick girls" (#2) by Blackpink. They have been at the top for five weeks and are still trying to get up back again. After dropping from #1 to #3 in last week's edition Emma is now holding the spot with "Mascara" (#3). Up two spots and into the Top 5 is badmómzjay. Her single "Supernova" (#4) hasn't a theme I can relate to, but I really like this song. I'm not sure if this song is going up all the way to #1, but "Supernova" is definitely a very good song from an artist I normally would not listen. Also up two spots are LANY. They are celebrating their Top 5 comeback with "Heart won't let me" (#5).

Dropping down two spots is German newcomer Leolixl. Her single "Vielleicht verliebt" (#6, "Maybe in love") is still getting a lot of personal airplay, but it is now on its way out of the Top 10. New in the Top 10 is the next song. I recently bought LEA's album "Treppenhaus" ("Stairwell") and most of the songs I'm charting by her at the moment got a push in this week's chart. So "Du tust es immer wieder" ("You keep doing it") climbed up nine spots and is ready for attacking the Top 5 to become her biggest charting hit.

Also new in the Top 10 is Madeline Juno's "Über dich" (#9, "Over you"). I'm charting her since 2013 when she debuted with "Error" which was also her 1st Top 10 hit peaking at #9. Out of her debut album "The unknown" - which I bought - also "Do it again" (peak at #10), "If this was a movie" (peak at #10) and "Vertigo" (peak at #8) reached the Top 10. Her 2nd English album failed to gain my attention and eventually she left back this phase to start singing in German in 2016. And the 2nd single "Gift" ("Poison", peak at #5) from her 1st German album "DNA" reached the Top 10 in 2017. This has been her biggest hit and her last Top 10 hit until this week. Who knows maybe "Über dich" will outperform "Gift".

Caught between these new Top 10 entries are Kygo & Donna Summer with their hit "Hot stuff" (#8). This song is probably for the last time in the Top 10. Holding its spot and rounding out this week's Top 10 is "Überall" (#10, "Everywhere") by German CÉLINE.

The greatest gainer of the week is "Happy" (#45) by Pink after climbing up 27 spots in this week's edition. The Top 50 can only be a stopover for her because I believe that this song will end in the Top 20 at least. For the highest debut you have do dig a little bit deeper. It is "The 1" (#71) by Taylor Swift. Sure this single has been released in October 2020 and I'm a little late on charting this one, but hey I've charted so many songs by her over the last months that I had to make little compromises. The start isn't as good as some of her other hits in the past, but only the sky is the limit for some songs by her and so I hope that this one will do as good as her other hits from "Folklore".

Week 515 – January 9^th, 2021

Second week into 2021 and there is a new #1. It is the premier #1 for German singer LEA. Her single "Du tust es immer wieder" ("You keep doing it") about her mistrust in a relationship climbed up six spots in this week's edition. Although she has multiple chart hits since her debut in 2017 with "Wunderkerzenmenschen" ("Miraculous people") it took her until now before reaching the top spot. She outperformed last week's #1 "Tsunami" (#2) by Annalisa which dropped one spot. Also dropping down one spot is "Lovesick girls" (#3) by Blackpink. The only song holding its spot in the Top 5 is "Supernova" (#4) by badmómzjay which is the 2nd best German song in this ranking. "Über dich" (#5, "Over you") by the next ranked German singer Madeline Juno is following hard on the German section.

Down one spot after reaching the Top 5 in the last week's edition is "Heart won't let me" (#6) by LANY. This isn't their only Top 10 hit in Week 515. Their other single "Nobody else" (#11) is the only new song in this section. Dropping down four spots is former #1 "Mascara" (#7) by Emma while German song "Überall" (#8, "Everywhere") by CÉLINE climbed up two spots which is now the 4th highest ranked German song in this Top 100. And there is one more German song in the Top 10. Leolixl's "Vielleicht verliebt" (#9, "Maybe in love") dropped three spots. So I can say that it is definitely a good time for German songs, at least for me.

The greatest gainer of the week is "The 1" (#45) by Taylor Swift. This song debut at #71 and sprinted up 26 spots in this week's edition. While "Willow" (#15) is struggling a little bit this one could be her next big hit on my chart. This brings me to the highest debut which can be found within the Top 30. It is by German producers Gestört Aber Geil ("Disturbed But Awesome). They are producing songs since 2010 and had some hits in Germany and Austria. Their biggest hit up-to-date is "Unter meiner Haut" ("Under my skin") with Koby Funk feat. Wincent Weiss which is cover of Elif's 2013 debut single. I'm sure most of you aren't aware of Gestört Aber Geil, mostly because I've never charted them during their career. Late in 2020 they released their new single "Allein" ("Alone") which debuted at #21. On this track they are featuring Austrian singer Tina Naderer who rose to fame with her debut single "Bleibst du bei mir" ("Will you stay with me") in 2019. This song peaked at #19. "Allein" has the potential to outperform her biggest charting hit "Richtig falsch" ("Right wrong") which peaked at #3 in 2020.

The 2nd best debut is by US-singer Frawley. She had a minor charting hit with "Hard boy" back in 2020. Now she returns very strong with her new single "Knocking on my heart" (#58) which has been released in November 2020. I enjoy listening to this song and I hope that this song will do well in the future. Directly behind you can find the latest single by Kate Voegele. In 2020 she struggled with two of her charting songs especially with "Anxious". Now she returns with "This is home" (#59). Hopefully she is returning strong with this song and she can climb up all the way into the Top 10 in the next weeks.

Week 516 – January 16^th, 2021

Things slowed down a little bit in the lower part of the chart, but in the Top 10 only two stones were left standing. And one had been the top song which was holding its spot. So LEA still can be found at the top with "Du tust es immer wieder" (#1, "You keep doing it"). Sprinting up the chart is another singer from Germany. Madeline Juno reached the Top 5 with "Über dich" (#2, "Over you") in last week's edition. This week she outperformed every other single from her and maybe she is reaching #1 for the first time with this single. "Über dich" is caught between the only non-moving singles. "Lovesick girls" (#3) by Blackpink is still in the Top 3. Falling out of this part of the chart is Italian singer Annalisa with her #1 smash "Tsunami" (#4). Dropping one spot is with badmómzjay's "Supernova" (#5) the third German act in the Top 5.

Heavily knocking at the door to the Top 5 is another single by LEA. "Schwarz" (#6, "Black") climbed up five spots. This song is followed by a LANY double pack. While "Heart won't let me" (#7) dropped one spot "Nobody else" (#8) climbed up two spots. Finally I can welcome "Willow" (#9) by Taylor Swift in the Top 10. She climbed up 6 spots with this song and naturally she is attacking the Top 5 at least. Rounding out this week's Top 10 is former #1 "Mascara" (#10) by Emma.

For information about this week's greatest gainer or the highest debut you have to leave the Top 50. On the other hand you'll met Taylor Swift again. Last week her single "The 1" (#33) had been the greatest gainer of the week. This week the album changed from "Folklore" to "evermore". Out of this album "No body, no crime" (#52) feat. Haim is the greatest gainer of the week. Probably one of these songs will repeat this success again in the next weeks edition because the way into the Top 10 is long. So let's talk about the highest debut. Recently I discovered some older songs and so British singer Olivia Dean got her debut with her 2019 single "OK love you bye" (#83). Sure the highest debut at #83 isn't really good. On the other hand this song is a little bit older than my usual debuts and so it is definitely a success. Speaking about older songs I also debuted the 2018 single "Just a little" (#84) by Violet Days.

Week 517 – January 23^rd, 2021

I'm still having a lot to do in school so that there hasn't been a chance for major changes. Still at the top is LEA with her single "Du tust es immer wieder" (#1, "You keep doing it"). In the hunt is once again Madeline Juno. Her single "Über dich" (#2, "Over you") is definitely her best charting hit since her debut with "Error". New at the podium is another single by LEA. Her song "Schwarz" (#3, "Black") climbed up three spots. Dropping down one spot is "Lovesick girls" (#4). Blackpink's K-pop anthem is doing well in its 14th week on chart and this song is going the spend some more weeks in the Top 10. Up four spots and into the Top 5 is "Willow" (#5) by Taylor Swift. This is her 1st Top 5 hit from "evermore".

The highest new entry in the Top 10 is another German song. It is "Allein" (#6, "Alone") by Gestört Aber Geil feat. Tina Naderer. If the trend continues then we will see four German tracks in the Top 5 by next week. Next in line is "Nobody else" (#7) by LANY. This is the bands only top Top 10 hit because of the fact that "Heart won't let me" (#11) dropped four spots and can now be found in the spot directly behind the Top 10. Also dropping down are two former Top 5 hits. First to mention is former #1 "Tsunami" (#8) by Annalisa. This song dropped four spots. Also dropping down four spots is "Supernova" (#9) by badmómzjay. The 2nd Top 10 debut is "Hypnotized" (#10) by Purple Disco Machine feat. Sophie and the Giants. I've not expected that this song will ever enter the Top 10, but with this week I've surprised myself. It took this song nine weeks to reach this part of the chart.

Once again the greatest gainer of the week and the highest debut only can be found outside the Top 50. Last week 2019 single "OK love you bye" (#61) by Olivia Dean debuted at #83 and was the highest debut. This week this song climbed up 22 spots and is awarded with the greatest gainer of the week. I definitely can say that I'm fallen in love with this song so you can expect another big climb. The highest debut is by Illenium & Dabin feat. Lights with "Hearts on fire" (#75). Week 518 – January 30^th, 2021

Let's start with the change in the leading position. A German singer is replaced by another. For Madeline Juno her single "Über dich" (#1, "Over you") is now her 1st #1. It took her nearly seven years and four months for taking over the lead for the first time. Nice done! She swapped the spot with LEA. Her 1st charting #1 "Du tust es immer wieder" (#2, "You keep doing it") is still doing well, although her other song "Schwarz" (#3, "Black") is waiting for reach the top spot too. Up one spot is "Willow" (#4) by Taylor Swift. New in the Top 5 is "Allein" (#5, "Alone") by Gestört Aber GeiL feat. Tina Naderer. Some might say that this song and the video itself are boring, but I really like Tina Naderer's singing on this song. So watch out for this song to become a possible leader.

Leaving the Top 5 after dropping down is K-pop by Blackpink. Their song "Lovesick girls" (#6) lost a little bit of the spirit, but 15 weeks on chart and still in the Top 10 isn't bad. Definitely a new song in this part of the chart is "Happy" (#7) by Pink. This one is also the only new song in this part. "Nobody else" (#8) by LANY, "Tsunami" (#9) by Annalisa and "Supernova" (#10) by badmómzjay dropped one spot and they are now waiting for getting replaced by other songs which deserve a spot in the Top 10 too.

For the first time in weeks the greatest gainer of the week can be found within the Top 40. Last week "OK love you bye" (#33) by Olivia Dean got awarded. And this week this song did again after climbing up 28 spots. Also the highest debut can be found within the Top 50. It is a song by US newcomer Olivia Rodrigo. Her song "Drivers license" (#42) is doing well nearly everywhere, but for me it took a while before I got into this song. Now "Drivers license" got a pretty solid debut and maybe it will do well in the next weeks.

Week 519 – February 6^th, 2021

Finally here is the chart for the 1st week in February. Unfortunately I had big troubles (self-inflicted) with my PC so that I only had time for compiling the chart late this day. I'm glad that I can post it still today. So let's see which song made it to #1. For those who waited for another new song at the top I've to say that Madeline Juno still is leading the pack with her 1st #1 "Über dich" ("Over you"). Up one spot is "Schwarz" (#2, "Black") by LEA. This leads to the fact that her former #1 "Du tust es immer wieder" (#3, "You keep doing it") dropped one spot. Holding its spot are the next two songs within the Top 5. First to mention is the leading single form "evermore". "Willow" (#4) is followed by the German-Austrian cooperation "Allein" (#5, "Alone") by Gestört Aber GeiL feat. Tina Naderer.

Knocking at the door to the Top 5 is Pink with her song "Happy" (#6). This song swapped the spot with "Lovesick girls" (#7) by Blackpink. The only other song holding its spot can be found directly behind "Lovesick girls." LANY are still doing good with their song "Nobody else" (#8) although I really thought at the beginning of this week that this song will drop out of the Top 10. Next in line is a song referring to LANY. It is "Coping" (#9) by Rosie Darling. For her this one is her 1st Top 10 hit with the first chart appearance. Rounding out this week's Top 10 is former #1 "Tsunami" (#10) by Annalisa.

This week two songs are awarded for the greatest gainer of the week. The ranked one is "Corazón sin vida" (#45, "Lifeless heart") by Aitana & Sebastián Yatra. The other one is "Non c'è più musica" (#67, "There is no more music") by Mr. Rain feat. Birdy. The highest debut is by MOD SUN who recently had his chart debut with "Bones". For his latest single he teamed up with Avril Lavigne. I really like their new song "Flames" (#44) but for me the song could have been longer, but the trend is definitely going to short songs in these days. Maybe Elvis Presley is greeting because most of his hit songs also where very short.

Other debuts are "Leichter" (#83, "Easier") by Vanessa Mai, "Souvenir" (#84) and "Boyfriend" (#97) by Selena Gomez – I finally bought her album "Rare –, "Easy" (#85) by Pale Waves, "Run back to you" (#89) by Hoang feat. Week 520 – February 13^th, 2021

Another week in music leads to a new #1. For a 2nd time German singer LEA is reaching the top spot. Her single "Schwarz" (#1, "Black") is taking over in its 10th week on chart. It is nice to see this song that high while her former #1 "Du tust es immer wieder" (#5, "You keep doing it") dropped two spots. Up two spots and new at the runner's up spot is "Willow" (#2) by Taylor Swift's "evermore"-album. This is definitely a good choice for a Top 3 song. Unfortunately I'm not sure if this song will ever reach the #1 because I really like "Allein" (#4) by Gestört Aber GeiL feat. Tina Naderer. This song climbed up one spot is now directly behind the Top 3. Still in the Top 3, but dropping two spots is last week's #1 "Über dich" (#3, "Over you") by Madeline Juno. She has released the next single "Lass mich los" ("Let me go") with the video set to premiere today. Maybe this song will debut soon. At the moment I don't know because I hadn't time to listen to this song. Hopefully it will do as well as "Über dich".

P!nk failed to enter the Top 5 with her song "Happy" (#6). This song is among the older ones in the Top 10 and I'm unsecure if this song will enter the Top 5 in the next weeks. Directly behind and climbing up two spots is "Coping" (#7) by newcomer Rosie Darling. This song and the next are definitely worth listening if you don't have listened to it now. The other song I'm talking about is "Knocking at my heart" (#8) by Frawley. For her this is also her Top 10 debut after climbing up four spots. The 2nd new song in the Top 10 is "The 1" (#9) by Taylor Swift. And last but not least there is a 3rd new song in this part of the chart which is rounding out the Top 10. It is the return by Cold War Kids with their EP cut and promotional single "Beyond the pale" (#10). This particular song climbed up 12 spots.

Over the last weeks most of the songs debuted in the bottom third of the chart and the Top 20 has grown old. With this week the picture changed and there are more songs competing for a spot in the Top 10 than there are available spots. Among the competitors are core artists as Kate Voegele with "This is home" (#14) and once more Taylor Swift with "No body, no crime" (#15) – on this track US band Haim is featured. And there are also two more newcomers which are fighting for their 1st Top 10 hit. First to mention is Olivia Dean with "OK love you bye" (#16). This late 2019 single straight shot into my heart when I first listened to it earlier this year. I discovered this song via a music review by "FAZ" journalists who described their 2020 music year. This is really an unusual way to discover new music for me in these days as most of the songs are discovered via the official charts (more or less), Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Music, YouTube and surely by all the charts are counting for the "Globalchart Top 100" (Thank you all for posting your charts!). The other one is "Drivers license" (#17) by Olivia Rodrigo. This song is growing more and more after I didn't liked the song when I first listened to it.

The greatest gainer of the week is "Pezzo di cuore" (#53, "Piece of heart"). This song is by my favourite Italian singer Emma and Alessandra Amoroso and climbed up 19 spots. This brings me straight to this week's debuts. The highest one has been released as a regular single last year in summer and now I discovered "Back at wrong" (#84) by Lola Lennox. It isn't the best debut, but it is a start. I'm not sure if the songs debuting in this week's edition will leave a big footprint, but the other ones are "Dicked down in Dallas" (#92) by Trey Lewis, "I love you too" (#93) by Matt Stell, "Nobody" (#94) by Dylan Scott, "Without your love" (#95) by APRE and "17" (#95) by Kwamie Lie.

Week 521 – February 20^th, 2021

LEA is defending the crown with "Schwarz" (#1, "Black"). Now she has spent 5 of 8 weeks at the top in 2021. Still in the runner's up position is "Willow" (#2) by Taylor Swift. As written last week it is hard to predict if this song will do the last step. Especially when there is "Allein" (#3, "Alone") by Gestört Aber GeiL feat. Tina Naderer climbing up one spot. This song is the major contender for the #1 in the next weeks. Dropping out of the Top 3 is former #1 "Über dich" (#4, "Over you") by Madeline Juno. The only other song holding its spot in the Top 5 is "Du tust es immer wieder" (#5, "You keep doing it") also by LEA.

Not far behind the Top 5 is in this week's edition "Coping" (#6) by Rosie Darling. Due to its 9th charting week I can't see an entry will happen. Also up one spot is "Knocking on my heart" (#7) by Frawley. This song should reach the Top 5 in the very near future. For the Cold War Kids everything is going in the right direction. Their song "Beyond the pale" (#8) climbed up two spots. Losing its spirit is "Happy" (#9) by Pink. This song dropped three spots. Rounding out this week's Top 10 is "The 1" (#10) by Taylor Swift which dropped one spot.

Last week a song in Italian was the greatest gainer of the week. This week the award goes to another Italian song. It is "Non c'è più musica" (#36, "There is no more music") by Mr. Rain feat. Birdy. Their song climbed up 15 spots and landed directly in the Top 40. This brings me to the highest debut. It is a duet by Jake Hoot and Kelly Clarkson. Their song "I would've loved you" (#47) from his EP "Love out of time" did very well and should rise up soon.

Week 522 – February 27^th, 2021

I’ve never thought that German act Gestört Aber GeiL will ever have a charting hit or even a #1 hit on my chart. Everything changed when I began charting their recent single "Allein" (#1 "Alone") with Tina Naderer. With this week they both can celebrate their 1st #1. Congratulation! "Allein" is now the 4th straight German #1 in a row which is definitely a record. This means that Taylor Swift failed to take over with her single "Willow" (#2). In a decade of posting my chart this only means that there is only a little chance for this song to reach #1, but if not I still like this one. Dropping down two spots is last week's #1 "Schwarz" (#3, "Black") by LEA. She still has two songs in the Top 5. Her other one is former #1 "Du tust es immer wieder" (#5, "You keep doing it"). Caught in the middle is "Über dich" (#4, "Over you") which is also a former #1 by Madeline Juno.

Up one spot is "Knocking on my heart" (#6) by Frawley. This song replaced "Coping" (#6) by Rosie Darling for the song which could possibly enter the Top 5. Next in line is a song by Cold War Kids. Their promotional single "Beyond the pale" (#7) climbed up one spot. New in the Top 10 is Kate Voegele with her recent smash "This is home" (#9). It is a good song although I don't see another #1 for her in it. Rounding out this week's Top 10 is another song by Taylor Swift. "The 1" (#10) is holding its spot and is directly followed by "No body, no crime" (#11) which is also by her and The Haim.

The greatest gainer of the week sprinted into the Top 50. It is country pop by Lauren Hall. Her song "Gone" (#48) climbed up 20 spots in its 5th week on chart. Not far behind you can find the highest debut. It is the latest single by Madeline Juno. Her song "Lass mich los" (#51, "Let me go") shows definitely the direction she is going with her recent work. As "Über dich" this one has the potential to become a big hit for her and maybe it will be another Top 3 hit. The next best debut can be found at #52. It is by another German singer. Sarah Lombardi had some minor hits on my chart since her participation on the German version of the idol casting show back in 2011. This recent song "Ich" (#52, "I") could bring her into the Top 20 or even higher. I really like the lyrics and her style singing and this one is surely better than her song "Zoom" which I recently charted. And there is another high debut by a German singer. Max Giesinger is back with his single "Deine Zweifel" ("#60, "Your doubts"). It is a good song and had a decent start, but 10 days after this release he released the next single "Irgendwann is jetzt" ("Sometime is now"). This song I discovered too late for this edition and so it will debut next week and you should expect a high debut, because of the fact that for me this one is better.

Week 523 – March 6^th, 2021

Ten years ago I decided to make a personal chart again. So it's time to celebrate the 10-year-anniversary of my chart. It all started with the #1 by Any Major Dude's #1 "July July". This song stayed four weeks at the top and became a big smash for me in 2011. They only charted once more and disbanded later. The lead singer of this band is now a writer. "July July" was the first #1 and last week's #1 "Allein" (#1) was the 205th in this period. A coincidence leads to the fact that in this ten years the first #1 was by an Austrian interpret and with this week and of course last week an Austrian interpret is topping the chart. This time it is Austrian singer Tina Naderer as featured act on a Gestört Aber GeiL song. For her it is the 1st #1 song and she had a bunch of hits over the last years. In this period I charted 5905 songs and just surpased the 5900-song-mark with this week's edition. So "only" 3.5 % of the songs I charted reached the top in these 10 years.

That's enough about the past let's see which songs did best in this special week. I've pointed out that "Allein" ("Alone") is still the #1. Also still in the hunt is "Willow" (#2) by Taylor Swift. In fact the Top 3 is the same as last week because "Schwarz" (#3, "Black") by LEA didn't move either. Up two spots is "Knocking on my heart" (#4) by Frawley. I like this gem and maybe some others enjoy her song too. Down one spot is former #1 "Über dich" (#5, "Over you") by Madeline Juno. While this song is on its way down her latest single "Lass mich los" (#39, "Let me go") reached the Top 40 in its 2nd week on chart.

Cold War Kids are doing well with "Beyond the pale" (#6) which climbed up one spot. This song is followed by former #1 "Du tust es immer wieder" (#7, "You keep doing it") by LEA. Next in line is a new song in this part of the chart. It is by Olivia Dean with her incredible "OK love you bye" (#8). By definition this song is a real sleeper hit with the original release back in 2019. "OK love you bye" definitely reminds of a #1 back in 2011 when Portuguese singer Aurea reached #1 with "OK alright". So maybe this is a sign. Holding its spot is "This is home" (#9) by Kate Voegele while my country #1 "No body, no crime" (#10) by Taylor Swift feat. Haim reached the Top 10 for the first time.

As predicted Max Giesinger is debuting very high with his 2nd single  "Irgendwann ist jetzt" (#21, "Sometime is now") within two weeks. Over the years Max Giesinger had some hits on my chart, but with this one he has the change to enter the Top 10 and it is absolutely possible to reach the highest parts of the chart. This is also the only song debuting within the Top 50. Caught between the highest and the 2nd best debut is this week's greatest gainer. It is "Skin" (#55) by Sabrina Carpenter. This song climbed up 17 spots. The other mentioned debut is "I need you" (#60) by Jon Batiste. This song continues the trend of songs as "OK love you bye" or "Can't wait to see you" (#61) by Trish Toledo on my chart. Some of you will know him as bandleader and musical director on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert".

Other debuts are "Nuda" (#67, "Naked") by Annalisa, "Romantica" (#78, "Romantic") by Annalisa feat. J-Ax, "Baila conmigo" (#79, "Dance with me") by Selena Gomez & Rauw Alejandro, "In the ghetto" (#81) by Darius & Finlay feat.
