Week 497 – September 5^th, 2020

Last week my Top 2 was all about unfulfilled love. “Love song” (#4) by Australian Daryl Braithwaite reached the runner up spot, but this week it dropped two spots. “Sad songs” (#3) by Liam Gallagher was in its 5th chart topping week, but also dropped two spots in this week’s edition. So the way was free for a new #1. And it goes to Taylor Swift. While her album “Lover” is still waiting for a #1 hit her new album “Folklore” has now one. “Cardigan” (#1) climbed up 8 spots and is now her 1st #1 since “I did something bad” (#1 for 3 weeks) back in 2018. LANY’s single “If this is the last time” (#2) has a similar theme as former #1 “If I knew” by Anouk. Therefore it can’t be really a surprise that this song is now ending in the Top 3. But where are the songs by Italian singer Emma you may ask. Definitely not in the Top 5 because the last spot is going to Austrian act Edmund and their single “Auf amoi” (#5, “At once”).

Up two spots is “What’s love got to do with it” (#6) by Kygo & Tina Turner. Maybe Kygo is entering the Top 5 by next week, but I’m not sure if the others give up their spot on a voluntary basis. Next in line is the first and only (!) song by Emma in the Top 10. Former #1 “Quando l’amore finisce” (#7, “When love ends”) dropped four spots. Emma is followed by Alanis Morissette with one of her latest singles “Reckoning” (#8). This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with two new songs in this section. First to mention is the LÉON’s comeback with her single “And it breaks my heart” (#9). The other one is “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#10) by Taylor Swift. For now she has two songs in the Top 10 from two different albums.

As this week’s edition doesn’t see a lot of debuts and movement the greatest gainer only climbed up 13 spots which is “Schwarze Wolken” (#39, “Black clouds”) by LEMO. The highest debut is by US band NIGHT TRAVELER and their single “Watching you” (#84). Other debuts are “Take you dancing” (#86) by Jason Derulo, “Drop dead” (#87) by Holly Humberstone, “Un dia (one day)” (#89) by J Balvin & Dua Lipa & Bad Bunny & Tainy, “For a second” (#94) by Michael Schulte and “Brother Louie” (#95) by VIZE & Imanbek & Dieter Bohlen feat. Leony.

Week 498 – September 12^th, 2020

Taylor Swift is now reigning the chart for a 2nd straight week with “Cardigan” (#1). I definitely like this song more than I thought when I first listened to it. It’s not only “Folklore” which is now doing well on the chart, but also “Lover”. Speaking about lover brings me to the fact that this album has now two songs in the Top 10 too. The higher ranked one is “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#9) while “Paper rings” (#10) just entered this part of the chart. There are two more songs by her which are knocking heavily at the door to the Top 10. “Exile” (#15) with Bon Iver climbed up three spots, but to be honest the only concurrence for a Top 10 entry is Pink’s duet with Wrabel. Their song “90 days” (#12) only climbed up one spot and so I’m not sure if they withstand the pressure. The other Taylor Swift song is her first country single in a while. “Betty” (#19) just reached the Top 20, but it is actually my country #1. So have these songs on a shortlist for a Top 10 entry by next week.

Enough about my current Taylor Swift obsession. Her #1 song is followed by former #1 band LANY. Their single “If this is the last time” (#2) is sticking around at the runner’s up spot. Former #1 “Sad song” (#3) by Liam Gallagher is holding its spot. Up one spot are “Auf amoi” (#4, “At once”) by Edmund and “What’s love got to do with it” (#5) by Kygo feat. Tina Turner. Once again down two spots is “Love songs” (#6) by Australian Darryl Braithwaite. He is followed by core artist Alanis Morissette whose single “Reckoning” (#8) climbed up one spot. And also up one spot is LÉON with “And it breaks my heart” (#9)

The greatest gainer of the week goes for a 2nd time to Holly Humberstone’s “Overkill” (#48). It is nice to see this song climbing, but also her recent single “Drop dead” (#77) did well with a 10 spot climb. So now let’s talk about this week’s highest debut. It is by US-singer Miley Cyrus. Some weeks ago I pointed out that I’ve a waiting list for the first time in years. Unfortunately her new song was part of this list for several weeks, but now “Midnight sky” (#41) got a solid debut. I really expect something good and so I wouldn’t be surprised when this song will end in the Top 10 as some songs by her before. The 2nd best new entry goes to German singer Laith Al-Deen. In the early 2000’s he had some hits but since I decided to re-start he was hardly found on my chart. Now he is back with “Liebe ist eine Geschenk” (#59, “Love is a gift”). Definitely a good song and I hope that this song will be a bigger hit for him. Directly behind you can find the next new entry. It is by Avenue Beat who recently charted with “Ruin that for me”. They enter the chart with their single “F2020” (#60). Sure this song isn’t subtle, but it describes definitely the feeling of several people about this pandemic situation.

Week 499 – September 19^th, 2020

Taylor Swift is blocking the #1 once again with her recent smash “Cardigan”. It is a good song, but I’m not sure if this song will reign a forth consecutive week. New at the runner’s up spot is Alanis Morissette with “Reckoning” (#2). This would be a good replacement, but Taylor Swift’s “Lover” album cut “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#4) also climbed up five spots as “Reckoning”. Caught between is “If this is the last time” (#3) by LANY. The only song beside “Cardigan” holding its spot in the Top 10 is “What’s love got to do with it” (#5) by Kygo feat. Tina Turner.

Down three spots is long time #1 “Sad song” (#6) by Liam Gallagher. This is no good sign, but I doubt that “Sad song” will leave the Top 10 in the very near future. Directly behind and up one spot is “And it breaks my heart” (#7) by LÉON. She is followed by Austrian act Edmund and their Top 5 hit “Auf amoi” (#8, “At once”) which dropped four spots in this week’s edition. While “Cardigan” is holding its spot and “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” climbed up four spots her other song from “Lover” only climbed up one spot. Therefore “Paper rings” only can be found at #9. Rounding out this week’s Top 10 is “Love songs” (#10) by Darryl Braithwaite.

The award for the greatest gainer of the week goes to Swedish singer LÉON. Her latest single “Chasing a feeling” (#54) climbed up 25 spots, but failed to reach the Top 50. On the other side it is only a matter of time when she cracking this hurdle. After a good last week’s debut by Miley Cyrus’ “Midnight sky” (#22) you’ve to dig deep to find this week’s highest debut. I really have lost the overview about how many singles German singer Elif has released this year to promote her recently released album “Nacht” (“Night”). So I’ve looked over her singles list and so I can write that she has released nine out of 16 songs from her album “Nacht” as regular singles and to be fair her new entry “Aber wo bist du” (#82) is “only” single #8 and I’ve not listened to #9 yet. Maybe this one will debut in the future or not, because her singles from “Nacht” had been hit or miss for me.

Week 500 – September 26^th, 2020

I can’t believe that this is the 500th edition of my chart. It is like yesterday when I decided to do my personal chart again and when former Austrian Band Anj Major Dude got the premier #1 with “July July”. This has been their only #1 back in 2011. They only other time they charted was when they placed the Nirvana cover “Heart shaped box” down the chart. Over the years I discovered several artists who are now core artists for me, but hardly known outside my music bubble. One of these artists is Emma who has scored 11 #1’s. Her first one has been “Tra passione e lacrime” (“Between passion and tears”) back in 2012. Her latest #1’s have been “Quando l’amore finisce” (#18, “When love ends”) and “Luci blu” (#20, “Blue lights”). And with this week’s edition she is debuting with her latest single “Latina” (#60) and two more songs “Mascara” (#59) and “Fortuna” (#61, “Luck”) from her album Fortuna.

Without further ado let’s have closer look at this historic Top 10. Last week Taylor Swift got the crown for a 3rd week in a row. This week she is defending the title with “Cardigan” (#1) and she now has four songs in the Top 10 with one song on the waiting list. The 2nd highest ranked Taylor Swift song is “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#3) which is definitely ready for a takeover. “Paper rings” (#7) climbed up two spots and “Exile” (#8), her duet with Bon Iver got the premier week within the Top 10. For Bon Iver it is also their first Top 10 hit. Heavily knocking at the door to the Top 10 is my country #1 “Betty” (#11).

Alanis Morissette - another core artist of mine - is still caught at the runner’s up spot with “Reckoning” (#2). Dropping down one spot is another well-known artist. LANY lost their spot with their emotional “If this is the last time” (#3). Back in the Top 5 is Liam Gallagher with “Sad song” (#5). He switched the spot with the top ranked cover which is “What’s love got to do with it” (#6) by Kygo feat. Tina Turner. Not only “Exile” premiered in the Top 10. There are two more songs which are for the first time in this part of the chart. Let’s welcome “90 days” (#9) by Pink feat. Wrabel and “Midnight sky” (#10) by Miley Cyrus which is also the greatest gainer of the week after climbing up 12 spots.

What is a historic chart worth without notable debuts. I believe nothing and so here I can point out that there are 17 debuts and several of these can be found within the Top 50. The highest debut is by Kesha. Back in 2009 she debuted with her smash “Tik tok”. Back in these days I didn’t really liked this one, but the time goes on and I can say that this song isn’t as bad as I thought. This week she returns for the first time in years with a new single. “Little bit of love” (#17) is the first song in a while with a Top 20 debut which is really nice for her. The 2nd highest debut goes to French artist Wejdene. Her single “Coco” (#22) is her 2nd big hit in France following “Anissa” earlier this year. The theme of both songs is the same, but I definitely prefer “Coco”. Also debuting in the Top 50 is Clean Bandit. Their new song “Tick Tock” (#35) is a collaboration with Mabel who had her breakthrough last year with “Don’t call me up” and 24kGoldn. “Ladida (my heart goes boom)” (#37) is the highest cover debut by Crispie & Ilira. The last but not least debut within the Top 50 is “Ice cream” (#40) by Blackpink feat. Selena Gomez. I know that most people don’t like this song, but I like the music by Blackpink and Selena Gomez and so it can’t really be a surprise that I’m charting this one.

Week 501 – October 3^rd , 2020

The party is over and now it’s time for business as usual. As last week there are tons of new entries, but first things first. Taylor Swift is replacing herself at #1. “Cardigan” (#2) dropped one spot while “Miss American and the heartbreak prince” (#1) climbed up two spots. By the way this is the first #1 from her album “Lover”. Also down one spot is “Reckoning” (#2) by Alanis Morissette. The chance to see this one at #1 is tending to zero, because of this drop. Up six spots and into the Top 5 is “Midnight skyt” by Miley Cyrus. It is her first Top 5 hit since her #1 smash “Nothing breaks like a heart” back in 2018. This one is followed by the only song in the Top 10 holding its spot. So “Sad song” (#5) Liam Gallagher is still in a good position to stay in the Top 10 until late 2020.

Next in line are two more songs by Taylor Swift. “Paper rings” (#6) climbed up one spot and “Exile” (#7) with Bon Iver also climbed up one spot. The third song in a row climbing up one spot is “90 days” (#8) by Pink feat. Wrabel. Dropping down fast are LANY with their emotional “If this is the last time” (#9). Two weeks ago this song was in the Top 3 (!) and now they are on their way out of the Top 10. Also on their way out of the Top 10 are Kygo & Tina Turner with “What’s love got to do with it” (#10).

This week two songs are awarded with the greatest gainer of the week. Both songs are from Italian singer Emma. “Mascara” (#41) and “Latina” (#42) climbed up 18 spots which is definitely not bad when you look at the number of new entries. Speaking of new entries I’ve to point out that with last week’s 17 debuts there are 35 debuts over the last two weeks. Unfortunately the highest debut failed to enter the Top 50. So “Love will remain” (#63) by Ronan Keating & Clare Bowen got a solid debut, but nothing more. On the other hand I expect a big climb for next week. The 2nd highest debut is by a Norwegian newcomer – at least for me. Lisa Børud is only 24 years old, but she released her debut album back in 2001 at the age of 5. After releasing nine albums in Norwegian she is trying to become more international. “Me without U” (#69) is her 2nd single in English.

Week 502 – October 10^th , 2020

To describe this week’s chart I can use this sentence: There is a little bit of Taylor Swift here and there is a little bit of Taylor Swift there. And yes this only means that the fifth song by her is entering the Top 10. So 50 % of the songs in my Top 10 at the moment are songs by her two albums “Folklore” and “Lover”. Let’s start with her highest ranked song. For a 2nd week in a row “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#1) is shining bright at the top. New at the runner’s up spot and ready for a takeover is “Midnight sky” (#2) by Miley Cyrus. This song is caught between the actual and the former Taylor Swift #1. So “Cardigan” (#3) dropped one spot and is now rounding out the Top 3. Also down one spot is Alanis Morissette with “Reckoning” (#4). And last but not least within the Top 5 is former #1 “Sad song” (#5) by Liam Gallagher.

The next three songs in a row are all by Taylor Swift. So knocking at the door to the Top 5 is her duet with Bon Iver. “Exile” (#6) which is followed by “Paper rings” (#7) after swapping spots for this edition. And new in the Top 10 is my country #1 “Betty” (#8), but this one isn’t the only new song in the Top 10. The other one is “Ablaze” (#10) by Alanis Morissette. For that she has now two songs within the Top 10. Between these new songs in the Top 10 is Pink’s duet with Wrabel. Unfortunately “90 days” (#9) dropped one spot.

Last week Emma was awarded with the greatest gainer of the week for both of her songs climbing up 18 spots. This week she is again awarded, but both of her songs climbed up 19 spots. Therefore you can find “Mascara” at #22 and “Latina” at #23. I don’t need a crystal ball to predict that these two songs are candidates for a Top 10 spot in the very near future. As last week the highest debut failed to enter the Top 50, but as for this week all the debuts are from Germany or Austria. The highest ranked debut is by Austrian singer Ina Regen. In her song “Macarena” she is dealing with the suicidal of a youth friend. The title itself – I know you’ve guessed it – is a reference to the 1990’s hit by Los Del Rio which I by the way didn’t like. On the other hand I really like Ina Regen’s song and her performance at the Amadeus Austrian Music Award. As I like another song with this theme earlier this year (Lewis Capaldi – Before you go) you better should have this one on your shortlist for next week’s greatest gainer of the week.

Week 503 – October 17^th , 2020

Surprisingly there is no song by Taylor Swift at the top of the chart. “Midnight sky” (#1) by Miley Cyrus took over. For Miley Cyrus it is her 2nd #1 following “Nothing breaks like a heart” back in 2019. Last week’s top song “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#2) dropped one spot and find itself now at the runner’s up spot. Still at the podium is her other former #1 “Cardigan” (#3). The following two songs by her are new in Top 5. Up two spots is “Exile” (#4) with Bon Iver and up three spots is her first country song in a while “Betty” (#5).

Falling out of the Top 5 is “Sad song” (#6) by Liam Gallagher. Also dropping out of this part is Alanis Morissette’s “Reckoning” (#7). Next in line is the last but not least song by Taylor Swift. “Paper rings” (#8) dropped one spot. Kesha is getting a big comeback with her recent single “Little bit of love” (#9). Climbing up three spots brings this song into the Top 10 for the first time. Also new in the Top 10 is young French artist Wejdene. Her song “Coco” (#10) climbed up four spots.

Last week I pointed out Austrian singer Ina Regen could be awarded with the greatest gainer of the week with her single “Macarena” (#34). This week “Macarena” climbed up 22 spots and it is really the greatest gainer of the week. As always the greatest gainer is followed by the information about the highest debut. It took Kygo a while before debuting with another remix of a past hit. This time he remixed Donna Summer’s 1970’s hit “Hot stuff” (#16). Definitely a song I really liked in the past and I enjoy listening to this version too. And because of this debut you can expect a Top 10 spot in the very near future too. “Hot stuff” was also the only debut within the Top 50. Three more songs just failed to enter this part. So you can find “Island” (#54) by Scottish newcomer Bow Anderson among these three songs. Early this year she debuted with “Sweater” and now she returns with a song that reminds me to Meghan Trainor. While songs by Meghan Trainor have been a hit or miss for me with no big hit this one could do very well.

Other debuts are “Ein anderer Sommer” (#57, “A different summer”) by Silbermond, “Tsunami” (#58) by Annalisa, “One too many” (#80) by Keith Urban feat. Pink, “Magic” (#85) by Kylie Minogue, “OK not to be OK” (#93) by Marshmello & Demi Lovato, “Lasting lover” (#95) by Sigala & James Arthur and “Beautiful & bittersweet” (#98) by Mia Rodriguez.

Week 504 – October 24^th , 2020

Last week Miley Cyrus celebrated her 1st week at the top with “Midnight sky” (#1). This week she defended the title. Taylor Swift can only be found at the spots #2 until #4 with her songs “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#2), “Cardigan” (#3) and “Betty” (#4). Sure “Exile” (#6) dropped two spots in this week’s edition, but she is still dominating the chart. Caught between the Taylor Swift songs is Kesha with her new one “Little bit of love” (#5).

Former #1 “Sad song” (#7) by Liam Gallagher dropped one spot, but is still fighting for a spot in the Top 10, but there are several candidates which are trying hard to get a spot in this part of the chart. Directly behind Liam Gallagher French newcomer Wejdene and her song “Coco” (#8) can be found after climbing up two spots. Next in line is Kygo’s recent smash “Hot stuff” (#8) with Donna Summer. I really like the original song by Donna Summer and this remix is definitely a very good work. Maybe this one becomes Kygo’s 2nd #1. Rounding out this week’s Top 10 is “Reckoning” (#10) by Alanis Morissette.

As I’ve written above there are some songs which are trying very hard to reach a spot in the Top 10. Clean Bandit failed in the past, but their new song “Tick tock” (#14) with Mabel feat. 24kGoldn is on the way to become their first Top 10 hit. Also doing well are “Latina” (#16) – the regular single – and “Mascara” (#15) by Emma. She had a good year so far with two #1’s and maybe these songs are walking these pathways. Next candidate for a spot in the Top 10 is the highest new entry. As I hadn’t a lot of time to discover new songs I’m a little bit late on debuting this one – as last week with “Hot stuff –, but I really like the new single by K-Pop act Blackpink. Their single “Lovesick girls” (#17) is very catchy and could be the first song by them reaching the Top 10. By the way they are named the bands 1st album “The album” which is … I don’t know if I should write that this is an understatement or even ridiculous or something in between. But OK it’s their choice and not mine.

“Lovesick girls” is the only song which debuted in the Top 50. Other debuts are “Vielleicht verliebt” (#52, “Maybe in love“) by Leolixl, „Vorbei vorbei“ (#66, „Over over“ by Michelle and „Bist du okay“ (#67, „Are you okay“) by Mark Forster & Vize.

Week 505 – October 31^st , 2020

The last charting week for October brings the biggest surprise at #1 in a while. Since 2011 only three times songs reached #1 from outside the Top 10. The first one had been “Second chance” by Peter, Bjorn & John with a climb from #16 to #1. The 2nd one had been “Run run run” by Swiss-Slovakian singer Celeste Buckingham. This one and “Higher love” by Kygo & Whitney Houston sprinted to #1 from #19. “Higher love” did this big climb back in 2019. This week the new #1 climbed up 16 spots. So if you’re familiar with last week’s edition you know that the new #1 is a K-Pop song. Therefore “Lovesick girls” (#1) by Blackpink is the first #1 out of this genre on my chart. As I’m not so deep into this genre this is definitely a sensation, but as Blackpink is one of the biggest female acts in K-Pop and I’ve charted most of their singles it was only a matter of time when they reach their first Top 10 spot. Surely the went all the way to #1, but I really love this catchy track.

Dropping down one spot is former #1 “Midnight sky” (#2) by Miley Cyrus. This one is followed by “Betty” (#3) by Taylor Swift which is now the highest ranked song from her. Her other Top 10 hits are still “Miss Americana & the heartbreak prince” (#4), “Cardigan” (#7) and “Exile” (#10) with Bon Iver. This leaves four spots open. Kesha’s new one “Little bit of love” (#5) is holding its spot while “Coco” (#8) by French sensation Wejdene climbed up two spots. Up one spot is the new Kygo remix. So you can find “Hot stuff” with Donna Summer at #8. And last but not least to mention is former #1 “Sad song” (#9) by Liam Gallagher.

The greatest gainer award goes this week to German singer Leolixl. She first rose to fame via Tik Tok, but with her single “Vielleicht verliebt” (#26, “Maybe in love”) she climbed up 26 spots. The highest debut is “Feels like love” (#66) by Noah Schnacky. “Feels like love” is an interesting country pop single which I personally would say is more pop than country, but who am I to say that. This debut is followed by Kane Brown feat. Nelly with their single “Cool again” (#69) which is another country pop single. And also the third highest debut is out of this genre. It is “Heaven down here” (#70) by Mickey Guyton from her EP “Bridges”.

Other debuts are “Heart won’t let me” (#75) by LANY, “I’m not mad” (#81) by Halsey, “Skandal im Sperrbezirk” (#82, “Scandal in the prohibited area“) by Eisbrecher, “When we were kids” (#88), “The beat” (#89) and “Wither on the vine” (#90) all by Matt Gresham, “Share that love” (#92) by Lukas Graham feat. Week 506 – November 7^th, 2020

Last week Blackpink’s latest single “Lovesick girls” (#1) took over and this week they scored the 2nd week at the top. Still in the hunt is Miley Cyrus with her single “Midnight sky” (#2). New in the Top 3 is Kesha. Her song “Little bit of love” (#3) climbed up two spots. Up to date this is her biggest hit on my chart. Next in line is “Coco” (#4) by French singer Wejdene. For her this is the first Top 5 hit with the first chart appearance. Kygo on the other side has several Top 10 hits in his pocket. These are mostly remixes of well-known hits from the past. This time he returns to the Top 5 with “Hot staff” (#5). This also brings Donna Summer her 1st Top 5 hit.

Falling down are the smash hits by Taylor Swift. Last week “Betty” (#6) had been in the Top 3, but this week this song dropped three spots. Down for spots is former #1 “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#8). “Cardigan” (#10) dropped three spots and “Exile” (#12) failed to enter this week’s Top 10 after dropping down two spots. This leads me the new songs in the Top 10. Emma is returning very strong. Her album cut “Mascara” (#7) climbed up four spots while her regular single “Latina” (#9) “only” climbed up three spots to reach a spot within the Top 10.

In its 3rd week on chart “Bist du okay” (#37, “Are you OK”) by Mark Forster & Vize is awarded with the greatest gainer of the week. This song climbed up 18 spots and eventually landed in the Top 40. For the highest debut you’ve to dig a little bit deeper. This week the highest debut goes to German rap singer badmómzjay. Recently she had a Top 20 hit with “Signal” (#27). This week she returns with her recent single “Supernova” (#56) which is also no typical rap song as “Signal”. This song is a reckoning with her father. A similar song by German pop singer Lena Meyer-Landrut (“If I wasn’t your daughter”) reached the Top 10 back in 2017. I really like her singing in this song and I absolutely believe that “Supernova” will do at least as well as “If I wasn’t your daughter” by Lena Meyer-Landrut. So the future will tell if “Supernova” will be a Top 10 hit for her.

Week 507 – November 14^th, 2020

OK K-Pop in form of Blackpink’s “Lovesick girls” (#1) is still ruling the chart. For now three weeks they are leading the chart and now they got new concurrence by Kesha. Her latest single is doing well for me. “Little bit of love” (#2) climbed up one spot. This song swapped the spots with former #1 “Midnight sky” (#3) by Miley Cyrus. French artist Wejdene is holding the spot with her single “Coco” (#4). I really like this song, but it is sad that my schotol French isn’t really good after 20 years not speaking this language. Also holding its spot is “Hof stuff” (#5) by Kygo & Donna Summer.

Up one spot is Emma with “Mascara” (#6). This one is ready for entering the Top 5. On the other side it is difficult to say which song of the current Top 5 should be replaced. Next in line is the latest official single by Emma. “Latina” (#7) climbed up two spots. New in the Top 10 is German singer Leolixl. “Vielleicht verliebt” (#8, “Maybe falling in love”) climbed up eight spots and so this is her first Top 10 hit. Since 2018 she released four singles and this fourth single is her first chart appearance and this is definitely her biggest hit for me. Down three spots is “Betty” (#9) by Taylor Swift. “Betty” is now the only Top 10 hit for Taylor Swift after “Cardigan” (#13) and “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#14) dropped out of this part of the chart with this edition. And last but not least Clean Bandit reached the Top 10 for the first time in their career. “Tick tock” (#10) with Mabel feat. 24kGoldn climbed up three spots.

German rap singer badmómzjay is awarded with the greatest gainer of the week. Her single “Supernova” (#34) climbed up 22 spots in its 2nd charting week. I really like this minimalized song and maybe this one is ready for reaching the Top 10. The highest debut can only be found outside the Top 50 and it is by another German singer. Céline who started her career earlier this year placed her latest single “Überall” (#59, “Everywhere”) in the Top 60. While most of her singles failed to enter the chart this one has the chance to bring her into the Top 30 at least. Directly behind you can find the next new entry which is by US singer Julia Michaels. Her latest single “Lie like this” (#60) did a good job, but here I’m not sure if this one will be her next big thing. “Lie like this” is the 2nd of four new entries which are debuting side by side. This one is followed by “Thank you” (#61) by PVRIS feat. Raye. For PVRIS this is their first chart appearance since January 2015 when “My house” peaked at #97. Raye on the other hand had a smaller hit with “Natalie don’t” earlier this year. The fourth debut in a row is by German punk rock band Die Toten Hosen. They just released their 3rd English album under the title “Learning English Lesson 3: Mersey Beat! The sound of Liverpool”. So it is definitely a rare thing that this band is charting with an English song. For the first single out of this project they covered “Respectable” (#60). The song was released by The Fourmost back in 1963. The song itself was a cover from The Isley Brothers who released the original version in 1959.

Other debuts are “Das Leben (du warst schon immer so)“ (#82, “Life (you’ve always been like this)“) by LEA, “Nur 1 Minute” (#83, “Just 1 minute”) by Hecht, “Young life crisis” (#84) by UPSAHL, “Until you” (#85) by Una Healey, “Zoom” (#86) by Sarah Lombardi, “Crazy days” (#95) by The Shires, “Golden state of mind” (#96) by Bryan Lanning, “Two blonde b*tches” (#97) by Candlelight Ficus and “No drama” (#98) by Becky G & Ozuna.

Week 508 – November 21^th, 2020

I’m still teaching my students from home and listening to a lot of music. For now four weeks K-Pop band Blackpink are topping the chart with their recent smash “Lovesick girls” (#2). Directly behind Kesha’s “Little bit of love” (#2) can be found. New in the Top 3 is another song by Italian singer Emma. Her album cut “Mascara” (#6) climbed up three spots and is so caught between non-moving songs. Next in line is French singer Wejdene with her single “Coco” (#4) and then there is Kygo’s hit with Donna Summer. I really like “Hot stuff” (#5) and maybe this song will take the last step to the reign.

Down three spots is former #1 “Midnight sky” (#6) by Miley Cyrus. So this song swapped spots with “Mascara”. The next two songs in line are also non-moving in this week’s edition. So “Latina” by Emma at #7 and “Vielleicht verliebt” (“Maybe in love”) #8 are stuck. New in the Top 10 is the very sad song “Macarena” (#9) by Austrian singer Ina Regen. For her this the 1st Top 10 hit. And last but not least I’ve to mention that “Tick tock” (#10) by Clean Bandit & Mabel feat. 24kGoldn is another song in this part of the chart which is holding its spot.

Last week Céline debuted at #59 with her new one “Überall” (#35, “Everywhere”). This week this song is the greatest gainer of the week after climbing up 24 spots making this song to become her biggest hit up-to-date. As last week none of this week’s debuts entered the Top 50. The highest debut is by Jellina who had last year a hit on my chart with “Alles” (“Everything”). This week she debuts with “Feuer & Benzin” (#55, “Fire & gasoline”). I really like this one and it is absolutely possible that “Feuer & Benzin” is doing as well as “Überall”. Directly behind the 2nd highest debut can be found. It is by Irish singer Rea Garvey who is more famous in Germany, Switzerland and Austria than in Ireland. So it is no surprise that he can be found on my chart every now and then. This week he debuts with the 3rd single from his new album “Hey Brasil”. For the work on “The one” (#56) he teamed up with German DJ VIZE who also produced the latest Mark Forster single “Bist du okay” (#21, “Are you okay”). The third debut in a row is by Matilda feat. Dagny with “Anyone else” (#57).

For the German speaking music fans I’ve to point out that this week you can find Luci van Org on my chart too. Maybe you’ll ask who is Luci van Org. In 1993 (back then I was “only” 13) Luci van Org founded the group Lucilectric and in 1994 they had two hits with “Hey Süßer” (“Hey sweetheart”) and “Mädchen” (“Girls”). “Mädchen” had been a big hit in Germany, Switzerland and of course Austria, but “Hey Süßer” reached #1 in Austria while it had only been a minor hit in Germany and Switzerland. Because of that Lucilectric is considered as one-hit-wonder in these both countries. 26 years later (I’m really old!) she teamed up with ÉASY formally known as ÉSMaticx. On ÉASY’s single “Nicht mehr als Freunde” (#97) she is singing the refrain from her biggest hit “Mädchen”. For me she could have sung a bigger part, but hey she is having a comeback for me and that’s all that matters.
