Kelly Clarkson, "Behind These Hazel Eyes"
Peak: #1 (8 Weeks) // Spins: 276
Seems like just yesterday
You were a part of me
I used to stand so tall
I used to be so strong
Your arms around me tight
Everything, it felt so right
Unbreakable, like nothin' could go wrong
Now I can't breathe
No, I can't sleep
I'm barely hanging on
Here I am, once again
I'm torn into pieces
Can't deny it, can't pretend
Just thought you were the one
Broken up, deep inside
But you won't get to see the tears I cry
Behind these hazel eyes
I told you everything
Opened up and let you in
You made me feel alright
For once in my life
Now all that's left of me
Is what I pretend to be
So together, but so broken up inside
'Cause I can't breathe
No, I can't sleep
I'm barely hangin' on
Here I am, once again
I'm torn into pieces
Can't deny it, can't pretend
Just thought you were the one
Broken up, deep inside
But you won't get to see the tears I cry
Behind these hazel eyes
Swallow me then spit me out
For hating you, I blame myself
Seeing you it kills me now
No, I don't cry on the outside
Anymore...
Here I am, once again
I'm torn into pieces
Can't deny it, can't pretend
Just thought you were the one
Broken up, deep inside
But you won't get to see the tears I cry
Behind these hazel eyes
Here I am, once again
I'm torn into pieces
Can't deny it, can't pretend
Just thought you were the one
Broken up, deep inside
But you won't get to see the tears I cry
Behind these hazel eyes...
Here it is. What more can I say? Kelly had an amazing year on the chart, and this song is the best thing that she has to show for it. Not only did the song spend an amazing 8 weeks at #1 - which has it tie for the third longest-running #1 on my chart EVER - but it held on. Hard! It did not leave the top 5 for weeks after having hit #1. And it's fall off the chart was also a slow one. This is truly an amazing song.
The emotional, downbeat verses, tied up with the angry, fast-paced choruses...you just can't go wrong! And then you count in Kelly's amazing vocals, and you've got the recipe for a HUGE hit. Also, the video was really great, the idea of her running from her wedding and into the woods just ties in nicely with the song. Plus, she looked beautiful in it.
She's working on her third album already, along with touring across the world in Australia and Europe. After 2005, the hype for Kelly's next album should be huge! And I'm sure Kelly will not disappoint.
This song is proof, Kelly Clarkson is a force to be reckoned with.
