Here we go! TOP 5!!! 5. The Killers - All These Things That I've Done| Hot Fuss | I've got soul But I'm not a soldierAnd now, isn't that the only lyric you really truly need? This song is the equivalent to U2's "Vertigo", or Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name". It is the stadium anthem for The Killers that inspired a hit one-liner where thousands of fans could chant and clap in unison. Let me tell you something. At their Toronto show, when I heard over 16,000 people clap along and sing that one incredible lyric at the same time as me, it was probably the most magnificient feeling in the world. It was un-freakin-believable. This is the kind of song that will do that to you. This is 2/3 for The Killers so far this year. 4. Mariah Carey - We Belong Together| The Emancipation Of Mimi | I'm feeling all out of my element I'm throwing things, crying, trying to figure out Where the hell I went wrong The pain reflected in this song, it ain't even half of what I'm feeling inside I need you, need you back in my life, baby When you left I lost a part of me, it's still so hard to believe Come back baby, please, cause we belong togetherThe last pop song to make the chart for 2005, and the 4th Mariah single to hit the catalogue. This was her blockbuster, this was the return of the voice, and the initiation of the comeback that absolutely no one saw coming. I mean, if a pop song got any better, I'd really have a hard time believing that it was truly genuine and sincere like this song was. This is our generation's "One Sweet Day", and it's a song that will be remembered forever. Just beautiful. 3. Interpol - Slow Hands| Antics | I submit my incentive is romance, I watched the pole dance From the stars We rejoice because the hurting is so painless, from the distance of passing cars And I am married to your charm and grace I just go crazy like the good old days You make me want to pick up a guitar And celebrate the myriad ways that I love youHow could song-writing get any better than the lyric I just highlighted? I mean, Interpol are freakin' brilliant. They know how to construct and put together words into beautiful melodies and rhythms better than any band I know. Although this song straddled the 2004-2005 border, it is one that stands out the most from 'Antics' because it deviates from the gothic hardships they often explore throughout the rest of their brilliant album. This tune is one of those that will remain majestic, exhillarating, and flat out mezmerizing until 2025 because you just can't quite wrap your head around how a band can possibly do it this good! Who will be #1? Two huge bands still to come. Tune in soon to see who wins!

Oh, here we go. Top 2. 2. My Chemical Romance - Helena| Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge | Burning on, just like a match you strike to incinerate The lives, of everyone you know And what's the worst to take? (worst you take) From every heart you break (heart you break) And like a blade you stain (blade you stain) Well, I've been holding on tonight
What's the worst thing I could say? Things are better if I stay So long and goodnight So long not goodnightThe only justification I need for a #2 showing of the amazing 'Helena' is... THE VIDEO. Yeah this is about songs, but this is one of those rare cases where a video is able to make a song even better than it already is. No matter where MCR ends up down the road, this song/video dynasty will be forever known as the official anthem of the punk-rock with emo and pop seasoning movement. It's got a serious case of build up, and it does not fail to deliver in it's huge finale. This is musical theatrics. And I applaud MCR with extreme pleasure for having such an enjoyable and phenomenal vision through "Helena". So. If this wasn't #1. I'd be lying to myself. So don't be surprised. 1. THE KILLERS - MR. BRIGHTSIDE| Hot Fuss | I'm coming out of my cage, and I’ve been doing just fine Gotta gotta gotta be down, because I want it all It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss Now I’m falling asleep, and she’s calling a cab While he’s having a smoke, and she’s taking a drag Now they’re going to bed, and my stomach is sick And it’s all in my head, but she’s touching his—chest Now, he takes off her dress Now, let me go
I just can’t look its killing me And taking control Jealousy, turning saints into the sea Swimming through sick lullabies Choking on your alibis But it’s just the price I pay Destiny is calling me Open up my eager eyes ‘Cause I’m Mr BrightsideOn this fine New Year's Day, I celebrate the year that Branden Flowers and co. were able to produce the absolutely perfect pop (rock, new wave, whatever) single of the year. My brother, an avid System/Korn fan, loves it. My mom, a dire Celine/Cher fan, loves it. My friends, ranging from Ashlee/Lindsay to FOB/MCR fans, LOVE it. It's just that universal, that well embraced, that well written. It is the untold story we often feel, where the one we love is ripped away from us without a sense of consent or resolution. Mr. Brightside is one of those songs you just never get tired of. I heard it for the first time last December, and I still love it more than ever; especially after hearing it performed live. It was their biggest hit off their even bigger album, and with just cause. It's just .. man. I don't even know. But I know this is the only logical choice for the #1 song of 2005. Thanks so much for the replies, interest, and time for a chart near and dear to my heart. Have a solid 2006 everyone.

What a fantastic choice for #1 Roger, just brilliance. Whatever mood I'm in, that song never fails to put a smile on my face. Anyway, great chart- good to see a wide range of musical genres included, and some of the best tunes of the year!
