IDRL Presents this thought.
Which song do you think deserves the "Breakthrough Song Of 2004"?
It could very well be It's All You, which won the 2003 honor...but the same song can't win twice, so it's ineligible.
Maybe it's Scandalous, which had a few short runs, before they made a huge top 10 return. Also a 10-day run at #1 helped.
Or could it be Just The Way I Am, the huge favorite to win the honor? She has about 57% of the votes, and a long top 20 run kept her going to the end.
It might be Miss You Like Crazy, the fastest non-single ever to chart #1 on the MWC. Huge airplay was good to her in the clutch.
Who will win? Find out on December 16, the day before the big show.

What can we promise you? We have songs from rookies like Ciara, Jojo, Angel and Big & Rich, to vets like Ashanti and Britney Spears.
That's all we can promise you for now.

Kelownaguy, Ashanti is a veteran on my countdown. She's had like 20+ songs make my chart. I just went to webster dictionary and I found these definitions: 1 a : an old soldier of long service b : a former member of the armed forces 2 : a person of long experience in some occupation or skill (as politics or the arts)#1 doesn't apply to Ashanti and neither does #2. I think you're misinterpreting the word, veteran, dude. Ashanti is still a relatively new artist. Sure, she's had 2 albums released already, and 20+ of those songs made your chart. But she is nowhere near veteran status, dude. I guess we could say that Ashanti is simply a recurring artist on your chart. ;D

ok, recurring artist. That's what I meant. Thanks for that thought....
But here's a noteworthy thought, Ashanti is 2-time Song Of The Year and put it on the line this year, but couldn't do it.
2002-Baby 2003-Rock Wit U 2004-dip it low/it's all you/i promise

Turbulence. Anything can happen, and look what happened just moments ago in the daily update.
rinse and repeat
1. Dip It Low 2. It's All You 3. I Promise 4. Only U 5. Breakaway 6. Just The Way I Am 7. Left Outside Alone (#1 recurrent) 8. Scandalous 9. U Should've Known Better 10. Sound Of The Underground 82. Boulevard Of Broken Dreams 83. It's A Beautiful World
Remember, anything can happen in the next 2 weeks, so we have some excitement brewing. Don't miss out.
And just to let you know, it gets really crazy in the last 2 weeks. That's what happened to Sugababes last year when they finished #9 in 2004 despite only 35 days on IDRL with Stronger.

Continuing the daily updates.....
With the countdown to the 2004 finale just 16 days to go, it's still up in the air. Ashanti needs to be #1 from now until the airing of the 2004 endgame in order to at least have a 33% shot of being top 3. There's no way she'll pass Dip It Low, I Promise & It's All You for #1, but you never know, with the 40@1 streak Only U had. It was going strong until Jump 5 derailed her. Jump 5 has been aptly named 'Giant Killers'.
Meanwhile, Angel and Kelly Clarkson battle for #4 with Ashanti. They have sealed at least #6. Kelly's Breakaway and Angel's Just The Way I Am were 2004 staples.
The rest is a mystery.

just 15 days left, but this is where i'm gonna give out the goods. I will give 3 people on the M4b forums a shot to have a say in my end of '04 special, but i ain't saying whom.
meanwhile, what's up with #1? It's All You is now the current leader, by .000001%, over Dip It Low. I Promise looks like will have a #3 lock, as it trails #1 by 8.4%.

BEFORE WE FORGET! Here's IDRL's top 10 biggest disappointments of 2004.
10. Nelly / Christina Aguilera - Tilt Ya Head Back 9. JoJo - Baby It's You 8. Jessica Simpson - Angels 7. Alanis Morrisette - Everything 6. Janet Jackson - All Nite 5. Maroon 5 - This Love 4. Eminem - Just Lose It (had the hype....) 3. Outkast - Roses 2. Lloyd Banks - I'm So Fly 1. Hoobastank - Disappear
Thoughts on that?
As for the 2004 endgame, 2 weeks remain. Will your favorite be the champion.

Time for a little trivia...
Who was the artist to have the #1 spot on the end-year chart of 2000?
HINT:Soloist
The answer? It's our good friend Britney Spears.
2004 has been anything but good for her though. None of her singles this year hit 65+ days, and only 2 songs of hers retired. Will she even be top 50 at the show? Only I know the answer, but you will not know for nearly 2 weeks. Our staff is still hard at work on putting it together, and #1 is still too close to call.

Here's a look at some other artists who have had a disappointing 2004.
ALANIS MORISSETTE She tried so damn hard to make a comeback, but her two singles from So-Called-Chaos have been anything but stellar. Can Knees Of My Bees save her chances of having a strong song, or will they fade to pieces? 2005 will decide.
CLAY AIKEN Since Invisible retired, he hasn't been powerful on the chart. Not even seeing the top 20 with The Way or I Will Carry You, but don't count him out yet. No word on his next radio-release single, but IDRL will let you know. Will he ever match the success Invisible had, or is it too late?
SHAKIRA Fresh off a 2001-2002 rush of hope, Shakira came back with Poem To A Horse(I think that's the song), and it looked like it was a legitimate #1 contender, but then the airplay dwindled 58% in 1 week. That was the nail in the coffin for her 2004 hopes. She needs to strike back or she could be going far away from greatness.
THE RAPPERS CLUB About 3 rap songs have done well this year, down from 9 2 years ago. Only T.I., Cassidy and Fabolous have taken the rap-train to #1 on my chart, which is considerably good...but the other rap songs did very bad. 2004 also saw some bad rap with Eminem coming back, which crushed a lot of rappers chances of doing well this year. 2005 is projected to see a rise in success for these street ballers. We'll keep you posted.
EMINEM You saw this coming! My Band, How Come and Just Lose It....all bombed, making him even worse than before. His 2005 hopes are extremely lower than usual. Maybe he should go back to Detroit and think of a new gameplan...
