The eagerly anticipated second album from Montreal's Arcade Fire exceeds all expectations. Neon Bible was written, produced, arranged, and performed by the Arcade Fire and recorded throughout 2006 in Quebec, New York, Budapest, and London with recording and engineering help from Markus Dravs (Bjork, Brian Eno) and Scott Colburn (Animal Collective, Sun City Girls). With string and orchestral arrangements by the band's own Owen Pallet (also Final Fantasy) and Regine Chassagne, Neon Bible is full of both half-assed punk rock mistakes and meticulously orchestrated woodwinds. Processed strings and mandolin. Quiet rumbles and loud rumbles. But mostly just eleven songs that the band thinks are really good! Available in CD, LP, and deluxe CD format! The deluxe CD version is packaged in a hinged box with two 32-page flip books designed by the band. LP is double 180-gram audiophile quality with three sides of music and an etching on the fourth side. The LP also includes a coupon for a free MP3 download of Neon Bible. The CD edition preorder will have a special price of $9.99 through March 6 ($3 off our standard $13 CD price!). Preorders will be shipped to arrive on or around the release date March 6, 2007! All preorders will receive free with purchase a Neon Bible poster and other assorted goodies! More on this as it comes in... CD $9.99 DBL-LP $17.00 1. Black Mirror 2. Keep the Car Running 3. Loving that cover! Will definitely be buying this when it comes out- "Funeral" was in my Top 5 albums of 2005 (even though it came out in 2004 ).

"Black Mirror" and "Intervention" are strong - but don't climb to the brilliant heights of "Rebellion" or "Neighbourhood #3", or much of their debut disc for that matter.
Still, I will be picking this up.

It has.
And although I didn't expect it to be in the league of 'Funeral' - I'm shocked that the album lacks a dynamite hit. It's still a rather strong album.
But besides songs like 'Keep The Car Running', 'Intervention', and 'No Cars Go' - there's a lot less pep and a lot more gloom on this record.

The only 'hit' I hear is "Keep The Car Running".
That sounds like a smash waiting to happen.
Gonna listen to it a bit more before I pass judgement.

"Keep The Car Running" is apparently the first UK single, I still haven't heard it yet sadly- but I do love both "Intervention" and to a lesser extent "Black Mirror" that I've heard so far from the new album.

Yeah Keep The Car Running and Intervention are the clear big hits. I'll send you KTCR Danny when I'm home from school, remind me over PM if I forget Danny.

I got it! I think it'll be a fairly big seller. HUGE for them (not necessarily huge when pitted against big mainstream names like Justin Timberlake or Norah Jones, mind you).

I don't know why but I find myself coming back to this album again and again. It's definitely not as immediate as Funeral, so it's gonna take multiple listens to actually 'get it'.
The only song that I don't really like right now is "My Body Is A Cage".

#1 in the UK Midweeks!! Fantastic news! Perhaps my 300k first week global sales estimate was a bit underestimated.

In a heated race with Relient K on the US chart for next week. Relient K is projected for 100-105k, and The Arcade Fire is projected for 90-95k (top 2 debut guaranteed)
Those numbers could change, especially with TAF being #1 on iTunes.

Initial faves are "No Cars Go", "Ocean of Noise", "Keep The Car Running", "(Antichrist Television Blues)", "The Well and the Lighthouse", and "Intervention".
Apart from the title track which falls a little below par IMO, the album is quality throughout just like it's predecessor.
Very impressed.
