Discuss! ;D Or else! Who else got this CD and what do you think of it? I didn't get it, but I got to hear it on the internet. HUGE disappointment. She got all.... "poppy" on us.

I disagree with the "poppy" statement. Yeah, it's pop but not the kind of pop that you'd normally associate with the word "pop". It's not Britney or Christina pop. I think the CD itself is a continuation of 'Rocksteady' from No Doubt a few years back. I'm kinda disappointed as well but I didn't really know what to expect anyway. I was hoping for pop/hip-hop along the lines of Nelly Furtado.

I think this album is great. I personally love the whole 80s new wave vibe, so I'm not disappointed at all. I had an idea of what to expect when there were reports about who she was working with and what type of sound she was going for. I could do without some of the urban leaning tracks, but I think it's actually better that it's included to show some diversity at least.
"What You Waiting For" was probably the most logical choice for the first single. In hindsight, it was probably the best choice. Too bad it didn't do too well on US radio, but who cares? (I mean, the world doesn't revolve around the States, ya know).
I'm a little disappointed that "Rich Girl" was selected as the 2nd single, but I'm sure they know what they're doing by releasing this next. It's definitely a grower. I wasn't too impressed with it at first, but now it's a definite favourite.
I can listen to the entire album without skipping anything. You can definitely hear a lot of 80s influences throughout the album, most notably, some 80s Madonna, New Order, Blondie, mixed in with some good ol' Japanese pop (Harajuku Girls).
My favourites? Those include "Serious", "Cool", "What You Waiting For?", "Crash", "The Real Thing", and "Rich Girl".
I think the weakest track is "Luxurious", only because the other tracks are more interesting and musically more adventurous.
I hope "Serious" and "The Real Thing" get a release.

It's good. I wish there were more upbeat tracks like "What You Waiting For?" though. The rest are like...slow-techno-ish songs.
But it's decent. Haven't listened too much though - surprisingly.

This is an absolutely brilliant record.
Pop-infused 80's with a whole whack of influences ranging from reggae, ska, to Asian samples.
I'm not surprised at all with the critical success this album has gotten

Im holding off on this til Christmas, although i dont want to. For what I've heard the record is going to be a classic of the 2000's.

I think the CD is definately a grower. It's not something I could listen to daily but I could pop it in the discman once a week or every two weeks and listen and enjoy. It's pretty good. I'd give it a B-.

I got this last week... it starts off strong, gets kinda weak after the first four tracks or so, then picks up again near the end. Definitely very diverse in musical styles.
Here's how I'd rank the songs based on my first few impressions:
1. The Real Thing 2. Cool 3. What You Waiting For? 4. Danger Zone 5. Serious 6. Hollaback Girl 7. Rich Girl 8. Crash 9. Harajuku Girls 10. Long Way To Go 11. Bubble Pop Electric 12. Luxurious
