I was just wondering if someone shares my opinion. After my sister told me she didnt understand the 4th movie, I watched it right after i finished the book. (a week ago lol) And I was shocked... i already saw it before but I forgot that it wasn't a BAAANG to me and I noticed a lot of 'mistakes' .... I was wondering if someone else thinks that the fact that the movie 'distorts' (sp?) the book and that there are actually IMPORTANT KEYS missing to understand the movie - if its bothering you guys too ? The movie first started with the Yule ball... ok... I was like 'wtf??? isn't he supposed to be at the durstleys and the redhead family picks him up there to go to the quidditch world cup first??' I also didnt like that they didnt show that he worked his ass off to find the clue of that egg by spending hours and hours in the library, and that we had NO clue of the tri-wizard tournament, or did I miss something ? Also, Dobby was supposed to bring him that green ball to be able to breathe under water, not that.. i forgot his name. Um what else... In the water, it didnt happen the same way as in the book, in the book he was waiting for the others to make sure they know where they all are... And after that he's supposed to have a conversation with Hermione's guy and thats where they find the mad Mr. Croutch but in the movie they just 'walk' for some odd reason in the forest and thats where harry finds him.. Oh, and that conversation with snape in class where he tells him that he knows (thinks) he stole stuff from him etc.. that stupid reporter is a big deal in that book but there's NO trace of that Rita ! not even that scene in class where Harry's scare hurts and he's got to leave the class to go to dumbledore... Its so different, and i dont like the movie.. i'd have to check the other movies again but im sure it's pretty much the same... I just hope that the next movie'll be better and similar to the book ! Or i'll truly be disappointed !

Yeah, there were a lot of differences in the 4th movie compared to the book. I think the 4th book was fairly long too, wasn't it? No, the 5th book was the longest... well, they still had time contraints. The Dobby thing was the thing I noticed though. I rmember having a debate with someone about whether it was Dobby or Neville Longbottom helping Harry out. The book says one and the movie says the other. Turns out we were both right anyway. lol After reading the books and then seeing the movie again, it feels so incredibly rushed and I wonder what it would be like to watch just the movies without reading the books. I'm sure a lot of stuff wouldn't make sense. I think they assume that most people that watch the movie have read the book anyhow.

thats what I think. Its rushed, many things dont make sense because they cut out important parts of the book.
The dobby/Neville part, i found the version of the book better, i wanted to see dobby ! meh... i find him so freaking cute...
but a lot in the movie, goes just from one thing to the other and you dont even notice that it has nothing to do with what happened the last scene ! Did you notice that?? watch the last movie, and at each new scene think if it has something to do with the last scene. It mostly wont have anything to do with the last scene... the movie isn't linear at all !
Im scared about the next movie in July.... Cuz the book is HUGE almost 1000 pages ! they'll cut like EVERYTHING out... omg.... I'll make drama if it happens !

They kinda have to. The movies can only be so long without making them into two and I don't think that's an option. I think, though, the DVD versions should include more since I'm sure they probably film a lot of the scenes that get removed.

I can understand why they need to cut from the books for time constraints, and for the most part, I'm alright with it. I mainly have a problem when they fail to add little tidbits that would *not* have lengthened the movie by much, but which add to the meaning of what was happening (for example, mentioning that Harry's dad animorphed into a stag - that would only have taken a minute in Movie 3).
Sometimes, they also change things that don't need to be changed, like the stylized maze they had in Movie 4. I thought the maze with the different tasks from the book was much more interesting, and I agree with you that they should have shown Harry preparing for some of the tasks, even if it's just a 30 second montage with music in the background. It strengths Harry's character, and makes him look less foolish.
I also wish that they did extended versions as with the "Lord of the Rings" movies... I know it would probably be more expensive, but don't these movies make a lot of money? The deleted scenes are quite few on the DVDs.
I made a list of all the changes I liked or didn't like from Movie 4, but I can't find it. I didn't mind Neville helping with Task 2 instead of Dobby, for example. I understand why the Dursleys were cut, but they didn't make use the time they saved to build up to the Death Eater's march at the Quidditch World Cup... I thought that was very poorly done.
Because I personally didn't like "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" that much, I'm hoping that cutting lots of scenes from the book would actually help the movie, to make it drag less and to distill it to the actual storyline. One thing I think they've been doing a bad job of is that they make Harry Potter seem stupider than he is in the books. They seem to just focus on the courageous side of him.

^I completely agree with you. I thought the first 3/4 of "...Order Of The Phoenix" was pretty weak and dragged a ton, until you reached the remaining 1/4 where things mattered the most.

To me it looks just like a kid who's always 'lucky' which isn't even the case it the books. He's lucky most of the time yes, but he also most of the time works hard for what he gets. Also, I dont understand why they change scenes if both last 3 minutes. Whats the point..? if it takes the same amount of time why changing it..? It's confusing for those who READ the books... I personally think they shouldnt cut that much but maybe just make the scenes shorter...! The Lord Of The Ring was long too, why not this one..?
