Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Azkaban opened to a colossal 41.2 Million on Friday (which included midnight previews). From that figure, the movie was well on track to score between 110-120 million for the weekend and possibly beat Spiderman's opening weekend record of 114 million.
My how the tides have turned. HP3 took an unexpected hit on Saturday and ACTUALLY DROPPED in sales to 33.5 million. Spidey's record may seem far'fetchd now, but HP3 will still top the opening weekend of it's first two editions as it could reach anywhere between 93-97 million for the weekend!

As expected, Harry Potter gets a huge opening weekend! $100 million in an opening weekend is incredible! What I thought was incredible was last weekend: 1) Shrek 2 makes 90 million in its SECOND weekend 2) #2 The Day After Tomorrow makes 86 million I bring that up because more and more are movies opening over 100 million - but then one comes along and holds high figures for more than one weekend. But those figures for Shrek certainly took a huge hit this weekend, thanks to Harry. We'll see how this HP does. What did the other two finish with?

Despite HP3 opening, Shrek 2 managed a rather respectable -47% drop to another 37 million this weekend. Which in turn, helped it cross the 300 million mark.
- HP3 officially opened with 92 Million which is a higher debut than it's first two installments (HP1 - 90 Million, HP2 - 88 Million) - TDAT tumbled expectedly this weekend to 28 million and in turn has raked in a solid 128 million. - Mean Girls continues to be the suprise hit of the season moving up to #6 and having taken in a remarkable 78 million. - Troy and VH continue to see sales sliced in half with Troy falling to #5 this week (119 million) and VH falling to #8 (114 million) - Raising Helen registered a solid -39% decline with another 6.6 million in sales this week - Indie Hit Super Size Me fell one slot to #10 and has crossed the 6 million mark.

- Indie Hit Super Size Me fell one slot to #10 and has crossed the 6 million mark. Not bad for a "movie" that didn't really take much to make
