This went to #1 in 1989 (in the US)
The song (and album) are C-L-A-S-S-I-C!

A true classic. One of Madonna's best, and one of my favourite songs of all time.

Reviewer: Ben
Back when Madonna actually didn't mind offending people, she released true gems, and this was one of those songs. How unfortunate a talented vocalist in her range had to become someone that cared more for her material belongings (and to a point spiritual) then to releasing great music. If she would honestly be as she was when her career began, i'm sure there would be no "American Life" or "Music", which, from this reviewer's point of view, are considerably weak songs to stay relevant, and to re-invent herself...

"American Life" or "Music", which, from this reviewer's point of view, are considerably weak songs to stay relevant, and to re-invent herself... Even though I like "American Life" and "Music", they suck compared to classics like "Like A Prayer", "Like A Virgin", "Express Yourself", "Papa Don't Preach", "Take A Bow", etc.

I agree with Ben..."American Life" was extremely weak, and "Music" was a repetitive song which was Madonna's attempt at Euro-dance.

I remember all the fuss when the video came out and was used as part of a Pepsi commercial. So many people complained that Pepsi ended up pulling the ad within a few days. The video is fascinating. I agree with the others who have said that the album is classic. There are so many great tracks on there! ;D

This is another favorite of mine. It's gotta be one of my Top 2 or 3 Madonna songs overall. Great song. Interesting video. Unnecessary fuss & controversy over the video, though.
I wish she'd recapture this sound...or at least something similar....for her current stuff.

One of my favorites from Madonna. Surprisingly, I like the Madhouse remake as well.

This song was my introduction to Madonna. I feel as though this and Vogue are her most timeless hits. The choir was an excellent touch.

Sorry, I don't listen to ancient music from the 1800s. The only song of hers I like is "Bitch I'm Madonna" and only because of my girl Nicki Minaj!
