One-hit wonder. Went to #8 on Pop in 1997, and spent 7 months in the top 40. Still hear it on my Hot AC station today.

Great stuff... I enjoyed this one back then, and to this day I haven't got sick of it.

It was all right. I wasn't a fan of the song. And after awhile it got on my nerves.

I'm a casual Duncan fan. I've seen him in concert - he is a terrific guitarist who has a great rapport with his audience in a small club setting.
"Barely Breathing" hardly touches his talent. Check out any of his subsequent albums to his debut, but especially the Phantom Moon CD (which was the soundtrack to a play in New York).
I like the way some remixers have transformed a couple of his songs into dance hits like "Reasons For Living" and "On A High".
This guy is totally underrated.

I agree Bill! Duncan is greatly underrated. I also think that his album "Phantom moon" is a masterpiece, and it's on my top 5 albums of all times. Maybe the songs are not radio friendly, but hey, they're amazing. And I "think" that Phantom moon was not the soundtrack to the play, if I am not wrong, the play was called The Nightingale and there were songs for that. I have the mp3's Song of the human heart, No trace of us and Frightened soul. Good songs.
Oh yeah, Barely breathing was a cool song, but far away from showing his real talent

Yeah, I heard something about that. But as far as I know, he did 5 or 6 songs, and the rest are old songs. Nothing bad with old, but I would have preferred all new Duncan songs. I am not sure I will buy it, it's Duncan and all, but...

I cringed when I saw Duncan referred to as a "one hit wonder," but it is true that "Barely Breathing" is his only "well-known" track. On the Billboard Hot 100, "Barely Breathing" spent a whopping 55 weeks and remains one of the 10 longest-running tracks in Hot 100 history. Although the single never climbed higher than #16, it earned enough points to finish 1997 in 18th place on the year-end recap for Billboard. It also was that year's #1 "Adult Top 40" track. I live in South Carolina, the state where Duncan grew up. My local Top 40 station (and 2 AC's) gave a lot of support to both "Barely Breathing" and "She Runs Away," and they made a big deal out of playing a "local boy." However, by the time "Bite Your Tongue" came out, they were all like "Duncan Who?" ???Frustrating... I love "Barely Breathing," but my two favorite Duncan tracks are "On a High" and "Bite Your Tongue."
