You seem to be forgetting 'Before You', 'In This Life' and 'Time', not to mention 'Dear Life' and 'Far Away', all of which peaked higher than 'Jet Plane'. on which format?

can anyone say CanCon rule? At least Chantal's better than a lot of the other CanCon... especially all that filler crap.

Did you mean in the US? As far as I know, only 'Surrounded' and 'In This Life' made any headway at all in the US. According to that chart book that Daniel guy made a few years ago, 'Surrounded' got a projected #66 for CHR/Pop and I believe it made the 1997 or 1998 Hot AC R&R yearend chart. 'Jet Plane' did nothing, I don't believe. And then 'In This Life' made Hot AC Top 20 and in the 60s for 2003. In Canada, on CHR/Pop, the songs I mentioned above all did better than 'Jet Plane' on that chart that canoe.ca used to post. i don't have AC or Hot AC but I bet a few of them did better too. But I would argue that looking outside of just airplay, 'Jet Plane' is definately among her biggest hits. As for the Cancon rule, I won't deny one bit that Chantal was helped by it. That's the whole purpose of it, so that Canadian radio isn't completely Americanized. But as much as Chantal benefitted from it, so did every other Canadian artist too. I don't see it as a bad thing one bit.

Agree with The Max 100%
I do question the amount of CanCon though. 25% seems more appropriate than the current 35. The proposed 40% under review by the CRTC is too much.

This is great news, I hadn't heard about it before.

In general, I do like (or grow to like due to repetition) most CanCon - Shawn Desmond excluded, of course - but I agree that the 40% is much too high.
I think 30% is about right. 35% is the highest it should go.
Most stations seem to rely on recurrents and golds (the same overplayed recurrents and golds) to fulfil the Cancon requirements, instead of adding more new music by Canadian artists. I hardly got to hear new songs from Melanie Doane, and I haven't heard anything from Jann Arden's new album on the radio.

I hardly got to hear new songs from Melanie Doane, and I haven't heard anything from Jann Arden's new album on the radio. That's what happens here. A lot of these old CanCon songs have been overplayed through the years to the degree that I can never listen to them anymore without cringing.
