20. Ylva - Sentimentalist
Norwegian Voice Contestant Ylva scored a surprising big hit with me this with a cover of Sondre Lerche's "Sentimentalist." The song lyrically spoke to me and also got me to check out the original (still prefer Ylva's version though). The song had a slow move up the chart eventually topping the chart for a week in July.
19. LANY - If This Is The Last Time
Another song that hit me lyrically, the lead singer wrote this song as a letter to his parents and showing appreciation he still has them in his life. If This Is the Last Time started charting last year, but made it to #4 in March, spending a total of 31 weeks on the chart.
18. Steve Aoki & Kiiara - Used To Be
Another surprising hit for me this year. The same Kiiara who did that awful Gold song gets her 2nd top 10 as a feature. "Used to Be" is a reimagining of Matchbox 20's "Unwell" (which was my #2 song of 2003) with more emphasis on mental health. "Used to Be" reached #6 but stayed on for 28 weeks.
17. Kane Brown - Worship You
While exclusively a country hit, Kane Brown's "Worship You" is a love song for his wife and daughter using spiritual language to express love. It's the highest song on my year-end to miss #5 peaking at #6, but stayed a total of 35 weeks on the chart.
16. The Weeknd - Save Your Tears
Both the solo and Ariana duet versions of "Save Your Tears" are great. This is the Weeknd's highest appearance on my year end. The song spent 7 months on the chart peaking at #2.
15. Marshmello & Jonas Brothers - Leave Before You Love Me
We're still not done hearing from the JoBros. Their collaboratiomn with Marshmello was a big summer jam for me topping the chart for 3 weeks in August.
14. The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber - Stay
Justin's highest appearance on the year-end and the only one for Kid Laroi. The song got to #1 for 2 weeks in October although I'm kinda over it now, imagine how much higher it would've been if I had held on a little longer.
13. Jesse McCartney - Kiss The World Goodbye
Jesse finally released a proper lead single for hit 5th album and of course he delivers. This is the highest song on the year-end that's still in the top 50 on the weekly chart, so there's still a chance we could see this again next year. Kiss the World Goodbye topped the chart for a week in October before Troye Sivan took over for the rest of the year.
12. Katy Perry - Electric
Katy Katy Katy, you sure are doing everything you can to get on the JohnTASTICs yes? After releasing "Immortal Flame" for "Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius" Katy's "Electric" was released in conjunction with Pokémon's 25th anniversary. The song did top my chart for a month beginning in July.
11. Jamie Miller - Onto Something
The follow-up to Jamie's #1 smash "City That Never Sleeps," Jamie certainly has been "onto something" with his first 4 singles hitting the top 10. Onto Something peaked at #3 spending 32 weeks on the chart.

Electric is Katy's best song since Roar imo. Great stuff

10. Steps - To The OneTo show what a big year this was for Steps, they have 2 songs finishing in my top 10! To the One is the highest song on the year-end to not peak at #1 or #2. It reached #4 and spent 7 months on the chart. 9. Billie Eilish - Therefore I AmThis song started the year in the top 30 and had a slow climb to the top for 3 weeks starting in March. Meanwhile, I need to figure out how to close the mall so I can raid the food court with no one around. 8. Jonas Brothers - Remember ThisI kinda thought this might end up #1 for the year but once all the scores were tabulated it was only #8. This song fits so much criteria of a core song for me, 1 it's by the JoBros, and 2 it was created for the 202 01 Olympic Games. As the ceremonies came to a close, the song topped my chart for a week in September. 7. Steps - Something In Your EyesIf you add its 2020 points in, this would've been #1 for the year. It spent 2 weeks at #1 in 2020, but got interrupted by the Jonas Brothers going Christmas on us and also by Ariana Grande's Positions in 2021. The song still spent 9 total weeks at #1 (7 in 2021) and lasted on the chart until May. 6. Ed Sheeran - Bad HabitsAfter Afterglow only got top 20 in the beginning ot the year, Ed came back strong with the Dacne Pop track "Bad Habits." It went to #1 on my chart for 2 weeks in September and stayed on the chart for 6 months.

Ok, I definitely heard "Something In Your Eyes" (best song in this set for me), but HOW did I miss "To The One"!? My God, what a band ABBA Steps is! I enjoyed all the others too!

5. Nick Jonas - This Is Heaven
The highest song this year for anyone with "Jonas" in their name. Nick's 3rd solo album "Spaceman" sadly was hugely overlooked but is definitely worth the listen. "This is Heaven" wins my award for "missed hit of the year." The song spent a month at #1 on the chart beginning in June.
4. Dan + Shay - Glad You Exist
As I've said before, I'm glad somebody is! "Glad You Exist" continued Dan + Shay's hot streak on my chart, giving the duo their 2nd #1 following "I Should Probably Go To Bed." It topped the chart for a month in May (Nick knocked them out). This is the highest song by a duo or group.
3. Natalie Taylor - For A Reason
By far the most left field song to be a smash on my chart this year. Natalie hasn't exactly been on my radar, as her only other chart appearance was "Surrender" which only reached #67 last year, but this song was recommended to me and I found myself continuously going back to it. It had a slow climb on my chart, but eventually topped my chart for 3 weeks and lasted 35 weeks on the chart. This is the highest song by a female vocalist on the year-end this year.

2. Hunter Hayes - If You Change Your Mind
Hunter Hayes continues to slay since his #1 smash "Wanted" and this year was no exception to the dominance. "If You Change Your Mind" is the highest non-#1 song this year logging in a whopping 7 weeks at #2! Sadly this did not appear on his re-released album "Wild Blue Complete." PS. If you're wondering who the girl is in the music video, it's the women who is now knows as Mrs. Jesse McCartney, Katie Peterson!
1. Hunter Hayes - The One That Got Away
I checked, re-checked and checked the numbers again, and yes, Hunter Hayes controls the top 2 songs of 2021! Only separated by 21 points. Natalie Taylor was exactly 100 points short of #1. "The One That Got Away" is not a Katy Perry remake, but the first song Hunter released in 2021. The song hit #1 on my chart in only its 8th week and was a top 10 mainstay. These two songs are supposedly part of an upcoming project called "Red Sky" but appear to have been pushed aside in favor of the album re-release. Hunter joins an elite list of artists to have a year-end #1. He is the first country artist to top the year-end chart and the 8th solo male to do so.
