After finally catching up to Bayside, Milk Teeth lands their third #1 on my chart with "Given Up", taken from the band's as yet untitled second studio album. The British trio remains a stunning superlative on a male dominated chart, as they extend their record as the female fronted band with the most #1s. "Stain", their second, was also my chart's first #1 to feature a trans artist, guitarist Em Foster; between the band's two chart toppers, she hit the top 10 with her other band Nervus, on the #6-peaking "Flies". Milk Teeth's style, a blend of pop punk, emo and grunge (I compared them favorably to Veruca Salt and Letters To Cleo when I spotlighted them in an episode of The Music Detective), has attracted enough of a following to become a moderate M4B genre act, which along with their track record from the blockbuster success of "Stain" earlier this year helped "Given Up" become their third #1, tying them with Microwave for my chart's third-most #1s (Citizen and Teenage Wrist tie for second with four each, and Basement has the most with five).
Also experiencing a big boost from M4B genre appeal is Jimmy Eat World's "All The Way (Stay)", the first song released from their latest album Surviving, now up 5-3 to become their first top 3 hit. The song managed to widely appeal to M4B members despite it not being promoted to radio as "Love Never" was pushed instead - that one is also looking to do well here, as it's up 38-31.
Detroit band Fireworks' first new song in five years, "Demitasse", has the week's highest debut at #30 after its release Thursday. The song marks a stylistic shift from the band's pop punk roots, with an atmospheric post-rock track that runs six and a half minutes long.
A trial of Sirius XM helped push the remaining three debuts onto the chart, led by the hip hop trio clipping.'s "Blood Of The Fang" at #37, in part due to exposure on XMU. While clipping. is not well known outside of underground circles, frontman Daveed Diggs may be familiar to fans of the musical Hamilton for his portrayals of both Thomas Jefferson and Marquis de Lafayette. Also new are "Just Exist" by Eliza and the Delusionals at #38, as heard on Alt Nation (the Australian group instantly matches the peak of their previous entry, 2017's "Salt") and "Sing Along" by Sturgill Simpson at #45, as heard on the Spectrum (it's the country rock vocalist's first entry, as he failed to chart with his singles "Brace For Impact (Live A Little)" and "Keep It Between The Lines").
