Here we go again!
(If anyone really wants to host instead of me this year, just let me know.)
Note: Registrations to take part in this year's competition are now OPEN. Registrations will close and Round 1 will begin on July 8th, 2019, so if you'd like to take part, please register - chop-chop! Everybody is welcome to play!
When the contest starts, each participant will submit two (2) songs to me via private message for inclusion in that week's round of the Song Contest: The first song will be your competition song for this week's round. The second song will be your elimination song, which will only be used if you are in the bottom 3 in an elimination round.
(The following is a quick recap of the Song Contest Guidelines).
Both songs MUST be songs that were not released anywhere in the world as commercial singles. You CAN submit a single as your competition song, but in order for it to be eligible, it must NOT have appeared on any country or region's official chart(s). A good example of an ineligible song would be Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe", which charted pretty much world-wide, but "Your Heart Is A Muscle" would be okay to submit, as that did not chart in the Top 100 anywhere.
Please be aware that in the era of streaming, some non-singles have also made worldwide charts.
Reminder - You also can't submit a song to me that has been submitted in previous song contests, so before you send me your submissions, double-check the list (As well as the first reply beneath the first post - because I can't edit the original) HERE.
- When you submit your songs to me, you only need to provide the title and artist. I will track down YouTube/Spotify links for each of your submissions.
- If I'm unable to find a song you've submitted, I will then contact you (so we can keep the game rolling.)
- I'll post YouTube/SF links to each submission in a thread here on M4BCC. Each participant will rank each of the songs (without including their own submission) and send their rankings to me by PM (Depending on how many people are playing in this competition - for example, if 6 people are playing, then rank 5 for most popular, 1 for least popular). The voting period will last one week from when the YouTube/SF links are posted. If all votes are received before the deadline, the results will be posted right away instead of waiting for the week to be over.
- Once the voting period is over, the songs will be revealed, usually from most popular to least popular. Your ranking points will be converted into tally points each week.
This is the same format as last year's competition, and the reason for it is it encourages good game-play, makes the game fairer for all competitors and helps break any potential tiebreaks (but not always - in the event both figures are a tie, I will ask another board member to break the tie.)
This means that even if you get 1 point in the tally, you can potentially receive max-points in the next round, and maybe save yourself from being in the bottom 3. Likewise, you may get max points in the first week and least points in the second, so play smart, use tactics, submit your very best songs to try and be the best song each week!
- Each round will continue like this via a 'Points Tally', until we reach an Elimination Round. An Elimination Round generally occurs every second week/round, upon the adding up of the tally over 2 consecutive weeks/rounds.
-The three contestants who have the least amount of points in the tally by the time we reach an elimination round will be up for elimination, and therefore have their elimination songs (submitted in Round 1) used.
- The 'Points Tally' will occur until we reach the "Final 4" remaining contestants. From this point on, a 'Bottom 3' becomes a 'Bottom 2' and elimination rounds will occur each week.
- (Rule revision) In the event of a 2-way tie in the Elimination Round, the contestant with the clear most amount of votes will decide who leaves the competition, but in the event of a 3-way tie, all contestants shall move on to the next round and no elimination will occur. In the event that the latter occurs, the Points Tally will be shortened by one-round. In the (rare) event that 3-way ties continually occur within Elimination Rounds for more than 2 consecutive rounds, the host will revert back to whomever had the lowest Tally/Points score in the Bottom 3/2, and that contestant shall be eliminated.
- I will post YouTube/SF links to those three participants' elimination songs. The other participants, will vote on which elimination song they like the best.
Please now note that the three people in the "bottom 3" WILL be allowed to vote. This is because I am unable to see whom has voted in the poll. Any previously eliminated contestants may vote in the Elimination Poll also. The participant whose song has the least amount of votes at the end of the Elimination Round will be eliminated from this year's Song Contest.
- The tally points will reset to '0' and will be adjusted down after each contestant is eliminated from the contest (7 becomes 6, 6 becomes 5 etc...)
- The two/one participant(s) who survive the Elimination Round will be asked to submit a new elimination song at the beginning of the next round. Participants who were not involved in the Elimination Round need not submit a new elimination song. Any participant who is appearing in an Elimination Round for the first time following will have the option of using the elimination song they submitted at the beginning of Week 1 or submitting an entirely new elimination song.
-The final two contestants will fight it out for the win.
You can now start submitting your songs to me by PM. You have until the Contest Registration Deadline on July 7th, 2019 at 11:59 PM EST to register, and/or submit your Competition Song as well as your Elimination Song. It can be any song, there is no theme in the first round. If I receive all submissions early, the round will begin early
- After July 7th, 2019, your Round 1 submissions will be posted, registrations will close, and the 2019 M4BCC Song Contest will begin!
Please register below!
Have fun everyone, and best of luck!
