Sometime around the first weekend in August 1998, I posted the July 1998 Globalchart online. I had started posting my own chart online in January, and had made contact with other chart makers, so I thought that since we were from all around the world, why not create a composite chart that was an alternative to Billboard and other official charts? So here we are 20 years later. FreakyFlyBry took over the Globalchart duties from me in 2003 when we merged the original Charts Central and M4B message boards into M4BCC. As a result of this, I think we've formed a tight-knit, respectful community. The one thing we all have in common here is our love for music, which is shown in just about every thread that is created. I've created a couple of "Top 20" lists in this thread in honour of the 20th Anniversary of the Globalchart. If you'd like to see another "20" list of some sort, please reply to this post. Some may be easier to create than others simply due to the availability of the data. ( FreakyFlyBry feel free to add any lists to the thread!) ENJOY

Thanks for sharing all these stats 20 years... hard to believe it's been that long. And the Globalchart is still the greatest overall compilation of personal charts out there A few weeks back, Unkie did an episode of 20hitz on songs that hit #1 on the Globalchart based on our votes, here is the chart: freakyflybry.proboards.com/post/505794/thread

Hi there! Not trying to be argumentative, I'm just having a hard time understanding this one. Is this shortest total time on the Hot 100 for a Top 10 hit? No. 1 hit?

Yes, it's for Top 10 songs only so I've modified the heading to reflect that. BTW the shortest run on the chart for a #1 song is 18 weeks - Beyonce's "If I Were A Boy".

What amazing timing... because Billboard is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Hot 100... which debuted in August 1958. In celebration of 60 years of the Hot 100, Billboard has released a list of the Top 600 songs from the Hot 100 over the past 60 years. You can read the list here: www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100-60th-anniversaryWhat's cool about their list is that you can run filters on it to see which songs from which decades are represented, or what genres had the most entries on the list, etc. It really is a neat-o chart that you likely would enjoy checking out! So... of course... I want to know where YOUR special list is of the Top 200 hits from the past 20 years! It needs to be right up to the minute, too. Don't give us any of that "through the end of May 2018" stuff or whatever... because that would not be a full 20 years now, would it? In the event that you don't have time to compile this list of 200, you could just make one up. We likely wouldn't know the difference... unless a bunch of Kate Voegele tracks filled up the upper 40... If you are (cruelly) limiting your lists to 20-ish positions, then I guess we'd settle for the Top 20 of the past 20 years. I mean, it is better than nothing, right? Here's a bonus challenge to Billster: What are the top 20 "Dance Tracks" to hit over the past 20 years? You could eliminate remixes of songs that are not dance tracks in their original form; otherwise, just about any song could qualify for the moniker of "Dance Track." I mean, when you see Reba McEntire had a huge Billboard Club Songs entry with a remixed version of her twangy take on "Keep Me Hangin' On," you can see why I'd say you could (and should) disqualify remixes of non-dance tracks. What about Top 20 tracks by Globalchart One Hit Wonders... with the strict definition being no second entry on the entire 100-position chart. I get tired of those fake-ass "One Hit Wonder" countdowns that include songs by artists who had multiple entries in the Hot 100, or maybe even the upper 40 on the Hot 100... but because the "one big hit" far over-shadowed anything else, they count it as a "one hit wonder." However, dammit, if you have a song peak at #5, and then you have another song peak at #33... you are NOT a one-hit wonder; you just happened to have had "one giant hit," but you are NOT a one-hit wonder. I think people forget that if you had a song peak at even #100 for one damn week, that still puts you head and shoulders above hundreds of other tracks that were out that same week that didn't merit a position any higher than #101. /endrant

I would have no eyes left (they'd have rolled out of my head years ago) for every time I've heard a-ha, A Flock of Seagulls or Katrina and the Waves on these specials. NO, just because you didn't program the follow-ups didn't mean they failed to be chart hits. "The Sun Always Shines on TV" and "That's the Way" each went Top 20 even! *So* annoying!

In terms of an all-time list like a Top 200, I have compiled similar lists, but not an 'all time' list as it would mean going through very old files and taking a lot of time to compile such a list, it we went true 'by the numbers' and didn't just compile it somewhat randomly. I did compile a Top 700 2010-2014 freakyflybry.proboards.com/thread/57012/final-globalchart-top-2010-2014I also compiled a Top 600 2007-2012 freakyflybry.proboards.com/thread/50297/songs-posted-globalchart-2007-2012There is also a list of 30 True One-Hit Wonders to meet the criteria you specified, just not in chart form, so I'm sure I could do that as a Top 20 freakyflybry.proboards.com/thread/42587/updated-2012-true-globalchart-wondersThe only #1 song to be a one-hit wonder is "Stacy's Mom" by Fountains of Wayne
