You did get the last two correct.
150) This song's soundalike was written by a man who was at one time married to a famous country singer.
148) My first clue was in reference to a TV commercial that uses this song.
147) This song just missed the Top 40 in the early 1980s, but was a big AC hit and performed modestly on the R&B chart.

Very good.
150) This song was by one of the top bands of the 1980s, whose success spilled over into the 80s. This song was the predecessor to their only #1 song (on the R&R chart), which was a hit over a year after the song in question.
148) Would it help if I mentioned that a cover of this song was one of the biggest Hot AC songs of the 2000s? (that is, the first ten years of the millennium).

150. Def Leppard - Hysteria?
I'm confused by the wording in some of your clues, but I know this at least fits SOME of them so I hope I'm on the right track at least!

You did get #148 correct, but not #150.
The lead singer of the band who sings this song wrote the music for the soundtrack of a 1980 movie that was not exactly a box office smash, but its soundtrack was quite successful on the charts. The band performed some of the songs and a woman who starred in the movie sang the others. Both artists collaborated on the title track, which closed out the movie.
This song, however, is not from that movie - it charted two years prior.

ELO - Sweet Talkin' Woman?
Come to think of it, its verses remind me of Huey Lewis & the News's "Do You Believe In Love" - which was written by Mutt Lange.

That was indeed what I was looking for!
145) This was the only Top 40 hit from this jazz artist from South Africa.
144) Almost every town has one of these.
143) This song passed a little bit in the shadow of one of the biggest selling singles ever (in fact, in modern days, it is still THE biggest).
142) This was my favorite disco song ever - hit the chart about a year before the death of disco.
141) This song was said to be about the writer/performer's wife who had died a year before this song charted.
GOOD LUCK!!

Well, you got two out of three (not bad) 144) Most of this artist's first eleven hits made the Top Ten of the R&R chart. This was the only exception. 143) Right artist, and you are indeed on the right track, but the song you guessed was also on the single, and it got quite a lot of airplay (at AC, anyway). 141) A relatively then-unknown Bonnie Raitt sang back-up on this song.

Two out of three again! 143) You're sort of going the wrong way. "Candle/Something" didn't even exist when that song was charting. (But you do have the right idea).

Recover Your Soul?

There ya go! Since that song was released soon after "Candle/Something", it wasn't one of his more successful hits. Granted, Elton was pretty much passe at Top 40 radio (in fact, "Recover Your Soul" was his last song to hit the R&R chart, peaking as high as #47). He was pretty much relagated to AC radio at that point, where "Recover" actually hit #1, but IIRC faded away fast.
Anyway...
140) One of this legendary band's most forgotten hits. The title is a very common phrase heard at weddings.
139) A Miami fashion no-no?
138) A desperate plea to give the relationship another try.
137) The last charted hit from a band inspired by Monty Python.
136) This song sounds like a big hit by the Eagles (no coincidence, as it features the same lead singer).
GOOD LUCK!!
