For the week 02-02-15
50: Sam Smith - Stay With Me
I've always liked it, from first listen til now. It's in it's 40th week in the Aussie singles chart, so that's damn impressive at 3x platinum.
49: Sam Smith - I Know I'm Not The only One
I like it as well. The message behind it I think a lot of people can relate to.
48: David Guetta feat. Sam Martin - Dangerous
Not bad. Typical Guetta, really. Not mindblowing for me, even though I've seen it in the Top 5 of many countries around the world.
47: The Weeknd - Earned It
Only just listened to this one and I didn't dislike it but it didn't grab me either. I actually thought a woman was singing in the opening verse
46: The Veronicas - If You Love Someone
My current number 3 at the time of review, I do love this track. A great message and they get the patriotic vote, being from my hometown.
45: One Direction - Night Changes
My current number 2 at time of review, this one's having a big impact. The fact they've been gradually stamping their own style on their music has impressed me. It seems to take a few years for artist(s) from reality TV shows to do so, and this song is just great.
44: George Ezra - Budapest
Another longevity track in the Aussie charts at 29 weeks charting, I thought this was a pretty kickass debut single from him. A unique sound from a pretty good song, although it didn't chart for me like his newer track did.
43: Phillip George - Wish You Were Mine
This was a debut on the Aussie charts at time of review, so I hadn't heard it before and just gave it a listen. Starts off with soft music and then breaks into this dance-percussion-y track which is pretty cool to bop along to. I'll either grow to like or hate this.
42: Sam Smith - Like I Can
Man, Aussies love this Sam Smith guy, hey? This is probably my least favourite from his songs. It barely scraped into my Top 100 and left early. Not to say it doesn't show his vocals in a really good way. I definitely don't hate it, it just didn't impact me like the first few singles.
41: Mashd N Kutcher - Do It Now
Another debut this week, I realized I have heard it a few times before upon looking it up. Really catchy and a brilliant band name! This is a pretty typical Aussie-dance sound, similar to maybe a Timmy Trumpet, Savage or a Bodyrockers sound.
40: Milky Chance - Stolen Dance
This is a re-entry, which either means they are touring or promo'd themselves really well. I'm more inclined to think it's because of a pretty high result on the JJJ Hottest 100 last week and people were reminded of it. I always liked the unique sound of this, and it did chart for me for a few weeks.
39: Charli XCX - Break The Rules
I don't mind this track, although it's one of the tracks of hers that I've heard the least. I wouldn't really go out of my way to listen to it, but won't turn the radio off either if it comes on.
38: Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass
A former #1 ARIA track, like it was around the world, and in it's 28th week, I have to say I don't hate the sound of it, but being fitness-qualified, I DO hate the message of it, which probably makes me hate it more than I like it.
37: Sia - Chandelier
In it's 39th week and still Top 40, man this is impressive. Us Aussies love this one, me included. Try singing this one at karaoke folks!
36: Tinashe feat. Schoolboy - 2 On
Has dropped in it's second week charting, a latecomer for Aussies to catch onto. My housemate loves this chick's music. As for me, I like the sound of this but i wouldn't have a clue what the hell she's on about unless I looked up the lyrics, which I couldn't be bothered doing. Never charted this.
35: Timmy Trumpet feat. Savage - Freaks
Oh well look who it is! A pretty decent Aussie club collab. Charted low for me last year.
34: Ariana Grande feat. The Weeknd - Love Me Harder
This is actually my favourite Ariana Grande track, although I probably listen to the parody more these days
33: Calvin Harris feat. Ellie Goulding - Outside
It took a while for this one to grow on me before I charted it for a couple of weeks, although it failed to break my Top 50.
32: Nicki Minaj feat. Skylar Grey - Bed Of Lies
A sweet song, but not something I'd chart. Loved their live performance of this, but that was the only time I listened to it.
31: Jeremih feat. YG - Don't Tell 'Em
BZZZZZZT. Time's up Jeremih. How this got a peak of #14 on Australia's chart I do not know.
30: G.R.L. - Lighthouse
in it's second week and rising, Australia has really taken a hold of relatively new GirlGroup G.R.L. "Ugly Heart" was a big hit here, and this ain't too bad either. Currently sits at #72 on my own chart.
29: Wretch 32 - 6 Words
Another song that debuted this week and I had to look up. I can see why now. It's $hit i think Aussies need to get their ears cleared out.
28: Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne - Real Love
Much better. Probably my favourite since "Rather Be".
27: Maroon 5 - Sugar
They had a huge rise with this one in their second week on. I don't mind it. The video is a great concept. Nothing has really grabbed me from them however since "Payphone", even though I know they are an amazing band. Haven't charted this and right now I doubt I will.
26: Peking Duck feat. Nicole Millar - High
This scored #2 on JJJ's Hottest 100, so naturally it re-enters this week. A great song, and probably should have gotten Triple J's #1 spot, given it's style and grab sound. This charted for me quite well last year.
25: Meghan Trainor - Lips Are Movin'
Might as well have re-released the first single as far as I'm concerned.
24: George Ezra - Blame It On Me
A good song! Much prefer this over "Budapest" although I like both. This one I charted.
23: Labrinth - Jealous
Ergh. To release THIS after the stunning "Beneath You're Beautiful" is SUCH a let-down for me. He just talks. He's going for the emotion-card but no, just no.
22: Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP - Sugar Man
These guys again! I remember 'We No Speak Americano' taking over many years back, so it's good to hear these guys are still going at it. I quite like this one also, although not as good as their debut.
21: Taylor Swift - Shake It Off
HUGE controversy in Australia over this song being disqualified from the Triple J Hottest 100 due to being used in a KFC ad, it also dropped from #12 last week, with Aussies finally getting over it I think. A catchy track that charted Top 10 for me.
20: Guy Sebastian - Linger
The original Aussie idol, he still charts pretty well! A great voice on him. Not a bad song. Sometimes I chart him, sometimes I don't. I doubt this one will.
19: AronChupa - I'm An Albatroz
Haha, Aussie radio has propelled the hell out of this track. I have no idea why it's taken off, but it seems to be bombing fast. I didn't mind the first few listens but I got over it fast. No chartaging from me.
18: Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud
Exiting the top 10, this song is just incredible and it took me ages to chart it for some reason. I really like it, only exiting my chart recently.
17: Taylor Swift - Style
Actually surprised this is charting in it's third week already here. I LOVE this track and I think it'll do well. My current #4
16: The Avener - Fade Out Lines
Another song I realized I'd heard before but didn't know the name or title of. I do like this one! The beat kind of works well with the words. Maybe Labrinth should take some lessons.
15: Calvin Harris feat. Haim - Pray To God
I had to give this one another listen also. Just isn't a track I'd usually actively seek out. All those DJ's just sound the same with their tracks unless it's a standout. This one kind of is cool however. I mean if it's dropped from the Top 10, so can't be too bad. It's growing on me. I may even chart it. First thing from HAIM I've enjoyed though.
14: Peking Duck - Take Me Over
Another Triple J riser, although still charting. I really like this one.
13: Rihanna, Paul McCartney & Kanye West - FourFiveSeconds
What a unique voice Rihanna has. This seems completely lame to me on first listen though. And just gets worse when Kanye's voice kicks in and Rihanna starts squealing in the background. She gets a bit better more into it. Undecided for now, but erring on the side of $hit.
12: Taylor Swift - Blank Space
Another Top 10 casualty this week, this song was an incredible follow-up release. To think I saw her in concert before she was huge blows my mind. This song is still awesome. It still sits at #15 on my chart, but has lost ground to the newer track "Style".
11: Meghan Trainor - Dear Future Husband
What the hell? Three Meghan tracks in the Aussie Top 50?
Okay, I said out "Lips Are Movin". I'm giving this one a first proper listen and it's... well it's Meghan isn't it? I can just imagine every track on her album will sound exactly the same.
10: Hilltop Hoods - Cosby Sweater
I'm just not a Hilltop Hoods fan. Never have been. This re-entered the Top 10 thanks to a high Triple J ranking.
9: Avicii - The Nights
Songs like this are massive with Aussies. Encouraging and telling you to live your life to the fullest. I originally thought this was exactly like 'The Days' but it's not, really haha. Both have good messages.
8: Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do
A high debut for us Aussies, it's doing well for me on my chart also, at #32 for me this week. Such a brilliant track and her voice could melt butter.
7: Robin Schulz feat. Jasmine Thompson - Sun Goes Down
Another song that's taking over the world at the moment I've noticed is this one. I really like it also, as it sits at #40 on my own chart. Great sound.
6: Chet Faker - Talk Is Cheap
It took out the Triple J crown, so has re-entered the Aussie charts at #6. To me, his music is just boring as bat$hit.
5: Sia - Elastic Heart
This one has grown on me, I have to admit, but it was only after the video was released and I heard it a few more times. It's no "Chandelier" but it's pretty alright. Not good enough to reach my chart though.
4: James Bay - Hold Back The River
Where did this guy come from? A debut single that's doing pretty well to get a ranking this high. It currently sits at #63 on my chart, but had a peak of #58, so is losing ground.
3: Hozier - Take Me To Church
I don't mind it. I did chart it for a while for me, but that was mainly due to the impacting video clip for this song. The sound itself made the track die out pretty fast on my chart and it exited as quickly as it entered.
2: Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk!
This is just such a good sound. It sits at #43 on my own chart, but had a peak of #37, so ended up being one of the cool but not coolest songs for me. It may rebound yet. I do like it.
1: Omi - Cheerleader
A typical sound to grab the earbuds of everyday Aussies, really. It's catchy, it's lame, it's all it needs. It only lasted two weeks on my chart, peaking in the mid 90's.
Thanks for tuning in!
50: Sam Smith - Stay With Me
I've always liked it, from first listen til now. It's in it's 40th week in the Aussie singles chart, so that's damn impressive at 3x platinum.
