And it topped our Canadian iTunes chart. www.theverge.com/tldr/2014/10/22/7038371/taylor-swift-1989-track-3-is-the-most-successful-eight-seconds-of-nothingLast night, Taylor Swift used Canada in a test of her power. Be it an accident or just a show of force, the singer released eight seconds of white noise for $1.29 โ and subsequently topped Canadian iTunes charts. Number one. You can listen to the song in its entirety above."Track 3" is no longer on sale, but as of last night, eight seconds of white noise was more popular than all other music in Canada's iTunes store, including Swift's other songs, which were released with full musical accompaniment and vocals. Swift's actual track 3 (actual name TBD) does have actual lyrics, as teased on her Instagram account: I say "I heard that you've been out and about with some other girl" โ all followed by an extended, anxiety-inducing, 29-dot ellipses. 1989, an album whose third track is probably longer than eight seconds, is set for official release next week. According to sources familiar with making very wild and elaborate guesses, U2 is seeing this story and scratching their heads. What is this...I don't even.

I understand Taylor is really popular right now and I like a lot of her songs so this isn't a dig at her, but people are so f*cking stupid to spend $1.29 on eight seconds of NOTHING just because of the artist's name. Ugh.

This video has been removed as a violation of YouTube's policy against spam, scams, and commercially deceptive content. It's a shame. Her experimenting with noise rock was one of her most diverse outings.

The original poster should delete the video.

I have to wonder if people were actually purchasing it. I know quite often on the Australian iTunes Store a song will shoot to #1 immediately if a lot of people have pre-ordered the parent album. It happened this week with Out Of The Woods and Welcome To New York because enough people had pre-ordered the album to send the songs there upon release as they instantly downloaded to those customers. Others could then buy them for the $2.19. Perhaps this is what happened with that track since it was supposedly on the album?

I think something like this happened with those amazing "Toni's secrets". Do you remember in that album that had Unbreak My Heart? The final track was Toni's secrets, but it was only silence!!

I did write a blog about this but not for my own site, for my school's communications/public relations website. It was a post about the power of a brand. It has little to do with "stupid" people buying 8 seconds of silence. If any of your favourites released a new single, chances are you'd buy it before sampling it (and therefore before realizing you've just bought literal silence lol). symmetrypublicrelations.com/2014/11/21/the-musical-brand/
