How time flies... 10 years later, with a bit of a gap between, and the Globalchart has evolved and remains a chart that is ahead of the game!
So, in celebration of this feat, Bryan and I are working on compiling THE BIG LIST - the Globalchart's 500 biggest hits from July 1998 to June 2008. We've had to make some adjustments so that points from our monthly, bi-weekly and weekly charts are counted fairly... and then there's that gap between January and May 2003 when no chart was published. Bryan's been gathering information from personal charts that were published back then, so we will be filling the gap!
There are always interesting surprises in store with this kind of list. We're looking at the possibility of some kind of chart countdown on one of our contributing radio stations, as well as perhaps a guessing game to get you all thinking...
We'd like your input, so any ideas or possible projects that you have in mind to contribute to this celebration are more than welcome! You don't have to post them in this thread if you don't wish to do that. You can always send a PM, but send it to both me and Bryan.
Thanks, and we're looking forward to a festive Globalchart Anniversary summer!

I think you should let everyone contribute to posting the forum countdown. there are 500 songs, so let all members post some positions. Base who posts on who enjoys those songs the most Just a suggestion (Example lets day "The Pretender' by Foo Fighters was like #453 or something. Let me know ahead of time and tell me when to post. I'd also come up with some interesting facts about the song and stuff. I'd be posting that because I dont think anyone on this board loves that song as much as me)

If members have some sort of story about a song, they may wish to share that with us in some kind of Globalchart Anniversary thread. If members want to do this, perhaps they can send us a PM relating to the songs that they're interested in talking about. If they're on the BIG LIST we can let them know so that they can plan their post(s).

yeah we should do whatever we can to make this more of a forumwide thing. Like everyone should be able to contribute to this 10th anniversary celebration

I'd definitely be interested in Cody's idea. I'm sure some of my favourites will appear in the top 500 list, so I'd be interested in writing commentary for some of those. ;D

If we do it on Jammin' we could have different DJs do different parts of the countdown as well.

The list is too tentative as of yet, so I'll answer the above threads (and others like them) as we move closer to the end of June.

For those of you wondering what songs will make THE BIG LIST, you can now keep in mind a couple of things, subject to some of the songs near the bottom of the chart changing: * Only songs that reached the Globalchart Top 30 were considered for this list - it was easier this way since the chart first started out as a monthly Top 30, then grew to a Top 50, and is now a Top 100. * No song that reached below #14 on the Globalchart currently appears on the list. * Only 20 songs that reached below #10 appear on the list. * Some songs that reached the Top 10 don't appear on the list, particularly if they were shortlived on chart. * Most songs that reached the Top 10 and stayed on the chart for 10 weeks or more appear on this list. The list is NOT yet finished, and Bryan and I haven't decided yet when we'll begin posting it. So we'll keep you informed in this space. In the meantime, you can post your Globalchart Memories in the Globalchart Top 100 forum

I'd like to suggest a bit of a contest - guess what will be the Top 10 on THE BIG LIST!! Well, I mean everyone except Bryan, who has most if not all of the data (sorry Bry ). You can post your guesses in this thread. HINT: Focus on the #1's and #2's. And keep in mind that because of the monthly, bi-weekly, and weekly appearances, songs are not disadvantaged because they charted on a monthly chart, or have an unfair advantage because they charted on a weekly chart. And the gap is being filled between January and May 2003. So while we don't have much data online from then, don't forget about songs that may have charted at that time. Have fun

I wouldn't even have much of a clue since I didn't follow the Globalchart for its first few years. So I'll abstain from guessing, not that it would make a difference.

After a potential snag with some old data, Bryan is now working on the final charts from 2003, so hopefully sometime later this month or in August, we'll be publishing the BIG LIST!
