Well, it's that time of the year, where all the songs you've charted in 2005 must be ranked according to how well they've performed during their run. And I have to announce that this is my first OFFICIAL year-end, even though I've been charting for 3 years. I won't reveal the point system I use for my chart, but I will say that each song is completely deserving of its position, based on the system I'm using. Its fair to its CHART RUN, its CERTIFICATION, it's PEAK and its overall LONGEVITY.
With that said, I'm going to start things off with 15 songs that didn't make my year-end chart. While they just weren't strong enough to kick it with that oh-so-prestigious group of 101 songs I loved so dearly this year, they still made my original chart, so they deserve a few kudos!

116. "And I," CiaraPeak: #14 Certification: --- For Ciara, And I, started off as a promising hit, debuting at #16. But the song lost steam very quickly, peaking at #14 in its second week on the chart, and falling completely OFF that following week. I didn't sink her battleship completely, though. You will see the very best of Ciara (and friends) on the year-end chart. 115. "Only U," AshantiPeak: #12 Certification: Gold 114. "Don't Let Them," AshantiPeak: #20 Certification: --- 113. "Get Back," LudacrisPeak: #19 Certification: --- 112. "Good Is Good," Sheryl CrowPeak: #18 Certification: --- 111. "40 Kinds Of Sadness," Ryan CabreraPeak: #17 Certification: --- 110. "Hold You Down," Jennifer Lopez (Featuring Fat Joe)Peak: #15 Certification: --- 109. "Let's Get Blown," Snoop Dogg (Featuring Pharrell)Peak: #15 Certification: --- 108. "Unpredictable," Jamie Foxx (Featuring Ludacris)Peak: #14 Certification: --- Yes, Mr. Foxx fell victim to the "charting too late into the year" debacle, but that doesn't mean you won't see him earn a respectable placing for next year. On the main chart, he's already showing signs of enjoying his first solo hit. 107. "We Be Burnin'," Sean PaulPeak: #14 Certification: --- 106. "Grillz," Nelly (Featuring Paul Wall, Jermaine Dupri, Ali & Gipp)Peak: #12 Certification: --- 105. "Daughters," John MayerPeak: #7 Certification: Gold 104. "I Just Wanna Live," Good CharlottePeak: #20 Certification: --- 103. "So Sexy," OliviaPeak: #17 Certification: --- 102. "Because Of You," Kelly ClarksonPeak: #17 Certification: --- ...But please don't shed any tears for Miss Clarkson. Rest assure that she has been known to set charts on fire, and my 2005 year-end is no exception. Keep your eyes open for her two Hot 21 Pop #1 smashes, Behind These Hazel Eyes and Since U Been Gone.

And now, the year-end... ;D 101. "Shake It Off," Mariah CareyPeak: #16 Certification: --- Who emancipated their inner-Mimi this year? That would be none other than the ever-so-talented, chart-conquering diva herself, Mariah Carey. While "Shake It Off," the third single from Carey's multi-hit spawning album, was not the staggering success expected from such a superstar like Carey, it did as well as it was going to do on the chart, peaking at #16. An underperformance? Yes. But a noteworthy one, that's for sure. 100. "ASAP," T.I.Peak: #15 Certification: --- 99. "Feel Good Inc.," GorillazPeak: #14 Certification: --- Creativity knows no bounds with this fictional, but very much alive group. The Gorillaz warmed up the chart this summer with their catchy #14 hit "Feel Good Inc," which at one point was in danger of not charting at all. Thankfully, it did, and even though it wasn't a big hit, it's definitely a shining moment for one of the year's most exciting breakthrough acts. 98. "If It's Lovin' That You Want," RihannaPeak: #13 Certification: --- 97. "Slow Down," Bobby ValentinoPeak: #13 Certification: --- "Who is that guy with the smooth voice," I asked my friend Michelle, while listening to this particular song on the radio. "That's Bobby Valentino," she replied. Instantly, I knew this song would be a mega hit on my chart, but as with life, nothing is ever guaranteed! "Slow Down" peaked as quickly as it entered, but you can't take a #13 peak for granted. It's not going to win any awards for longevity, but hey, it made the year-end! 96. "Be Without You," Mary J. BligePeak: #10 Certification: --- 95. "Like Toy Soldiers," EminemPeak: #6 Certification: Gold As one of the most successful hip hop artists on my chart, Eminem is no stranger to scoring top ten hits, and "Like Toy Soldiers" is no stranger to being one of them. The effective let's-keep-it-on-wax message, laced with a very creative Martika sample, debuted big on the chart in late 2004, carrying its success over to winter 2005. The song eventually peaked at #6 and was honored with a Gold certification shortly before departing. 94. "Diary," Alicia Keys (Featuring Tony Toni Tone)Peak: #1 (1 week) Certification: Platinum 93. "Hope," Twista (Featuring Faith Evans)Peak: #17 Certification: --- 92. "Just A Moment," Nas (Featuring Quan)Peak: #13 Certification: --- 91. "Make Her Feel Good," Teairra MariPeak: #11 Certification: --- Teairra Mari's "Make Her Feel Good" entered the chart with a bang on June 22, 2005, as the hot shot debut at #16. With its street anthem beat, layered by seductively soft vocals by Mari, the song quickly flew up the chart, peaking at #11. However, despite a hit peak, the song's chart life was not very long and kept the song from reaching Gold status. Fortunately for Mari, it's a hit in the books, and her year-end appearance is nothing short of respectable.

90. "Lovers And Friends," Lil' Jon (Featuring Usher & Ludacris)Peak: #9 Certification: --- 89. "The Blower's Daughter," Damien RicePeak: #8 Certification: --- 88. "When I'm Gone," EminemPeak: #7 Certification: --- 87. "I Should Have Cheated," Keyshia ColePeak: #6 Certification: --- When Keyshia Cole made her first appearance on my chart with her debut single, "I Changed My Mind," its blink-and-you-missed-it chart run was, fortunately, not a sign of things to come. With "I Should Have Cheated," the fresh-faced, R&B thugstress came back more determined than ever, scoring her first top ten hit, and rather quickly, I might add. 86. "Estoy Perdido," Luis FonsiPeak: #4 Certification: --- With its #19 entry on November 30, 2005, "Estoy Perdido" became the first all-spanish song by a male artist to chart on the Hot 21 Pop. However, the song's surprise top five success has garnered it more than just a place in chart history. 85. "Stand Up For Love," Destiny's ChildPeak: #12 Certification: --- 84. "If You Were Mine," Marcos HernandezPeak: #11 Certification: --- 83. "Follow Through," Gavin DeGrawPeak: #9 Certification: --- "This is the start of something good, don't you agree?" Yes, Gavin, I agree! This actually was the first time something good happened to you on my chart. And since we've developed quite an ear-friendly relationship, I don't doubt that it's the beginning of many more hits to come. 82. "Remember The Name," Fort Minor (Featuring Styles Of Beyond)Peak: #8 Certification: --- 81. "How To Deal," Frankie J.Peak: #8 Certification: --- It's been quite a successful year for Frankie J., as he's achieved great things all throughout 2005 (and you'll see what I'm talking about in future year-end segment reveals). His well-produced, Usher-esque ballad, "How To Deal," remains to be one of his finest moments. 80. "Soldier," Destiny's Child (Featuring T.I. & Lil' Wayne)Peak: #3 Certification: Gold

79. "Pretty Vegas," INXSPeak: #2 Certification: --- When INXS launched a reality show to find a new lead singer to replace the late, great Michael Hutchence, I was not exactly thrilled. Now, I'm not going to sit here and act like I was this huge INXS fan, but I did have great respect for the band and their wonderful music (not to mention that I swooned over Hutchence's voice). Thanks to the flip of a channel, I got the opportunity to hear and see JD Fortune tackling classic rock tunes on the aforementioned reality show, and I couldn't stop myself from falling in love. "Pretty Vegas," the first single from the newly-constructed group's latest studio album, is filled with an undeniably catchy hook and fun-to-sing metaphorical lyrics that are bound to keep you on your toes. The single quickly charged to #2 in late 2005 alone, with great hope that it could possibly reach the top spot in the new year. 78. "Caught Up," UsherPeak: #11 Certification: Gold 77. "Luxurious," Gwen StefaniPeak: #10 Certification: Gold The success of "Luxurious" propelled Gwen Stefani into Hot 21 Pop history. When "Luxurious" hit the top 10, and later went Gold, Stefani became the first artist EVER to place five Gold singles from one album in the top ten. You go, girl! 76. "Worldplay," Jason MrazPeak: #10 Certification: Gold 75. "Don't Phunk With My Heart," Black Eyed PeasPeak: #9 Certification: Gold 74. "Confessions Of A Broken Heart (Daughter To Father)," Lindsay LohanPeak: #9 Certification: Gold Who would've ever thought haunting and Lindsay Lohan would go together so well? The surprisingly autobiographical first single from Lohan's more personal sophomore album instantly struck a chord with my ears. That chord managed to help the actress-turned-pop star climb all the way to #9, and reach Gold status. 73. "Let Me Go," 3 Doors DownPeak: #8 Certification: Gold 72. "Unbreakable," Alicia KeysPeak: #7 Certification: Gold For those unfamiliar with "The Alicia Keys Curse," here's a little rundown: Alicia Keys has scored three #1 singles on the Hot 21 Pop, but her other singles that charted, missed the top ten. It was once joked that Keys had two options -- hitting #1 or not hitting the top ten at all. This song broke that ridiculous "curse" by reaching the lower end of the top ten in the fall of 2005. 71. "4Ever," The VeronicasPeak: #7 Certification: Gold 70. "You're Beautiful," James BluntPeak: #6 Certification: Gold "My life is brilliant..." I'm not sure if that applies to your life, James, but if you use brilliant in connection with your first single, "You're Beautiful," there's no way I can disagree. A brilliant career has begun, and to start it off with a top ten hit is not too shabby at all. 69. "Wanna Love U Girl," Robin Thicke (Featuring Pharrell)Peak: #5 Certification: Gold

68. "Lose Control," Missy Elliott (Featuring Ciara)Peak: #4 Certification: Gold "A muddled mess that worked like a charm," is how I'd describe Missy Elliott's 2005 comeback single, "Lose Control." The song, which featured a chorus and verse from Pop/R&B newcomer Ciara, raced up the chart just as quickly as it fell, but managed to reach #4 and score those seven important weeks on for a Gold certification. 67. "Because You Live," Jesse McCartneyPeak: #9 Certification: Gold 66. "You And Me," LifehousePeak: #5 Certification: Gold Lifehouse is one of the few bands that can turn it up to a saccharine level and still remain "cool" enough to enjoy - atleast in my book. What separates their top five hit, "You And Me," from the typical, run-of-the-mill, soft rock ballad, are the effortlessly charming vocals by frontman Jason Wade. With its flickering guitar and memorable chorus, "You And Me" is sure to be remembered as one of their best, alongside their most universal song, "Hangin' By A Moment." 65. "I'm Feeling You," Santana (Featuring Michelle Branch)Peak: #4 Certification: Gold 64. "This Is How A Heart Breaks," Rob ThomasPeak: #4 Certification: Gold 63. "Petrified," Fort MinorPeak: #4 Certification: Gold "You stare like you don't care, but you do, though." Ah, the ever-so-effective way of making a "trash talker" aware of how much energy and attention goes into... well, trash talking. Pumpin' bass-line? Check. Sick flow? Check. Gritty video? Check. What more could you ask for? For Mike Shinoda (of Linkin Park), going by the alter-ego Fort Minor, this wasn't just a step in the right direction, it IS the right direction. 62. "Teary Eyed," Missy ElliottPeak: #4 Certification: Gold 61. "Nobody's Home," Avril LavignePeak: #4 Certification: Platinum 60. "Stickwitu," Pussycat DollsPeak: #3 Certification: Gold 59. "O," OmarionPeak: #3 Certification: Gold Flying solo isn't always easy, especially when you're coming from a group that wasn't taken seriously in the first place. But Omarion managed to pull it off and make it look easy in the process with his breakout hit "O." (And to say the well-choreographed, attention-grabbing video didn't help his chart performance would be a lie.) 58. "Here I Go Again," MarioPeak: #10 Certification: Gold

57. "Don't Forget About Us," Mariah CareyPeak: #3 Certification: Gold 56. "Let Me Hold You," Bow Wow (Featuring Omarion)Peak: #7 Certification: Gold "Let Me Hold You" is the first of two Bow Wow songs making an appearance on the year-end chart. With help from R&B star Omarion, Bow Wow (or as I like to call him, The Comeback Kid) took the harmlessly catchy hip hop song all the way to #7 on the main chart, scoring his first hit ever on the Hot 21 Pop. 55. "Untitled," Simple PlanPeak: #5 Certification: Gold 54. "Don't Lie," Black Eyed PeasPeak: #5 Certification: Gold 53. "Like You," Bow Wow (Featuring Ciara)Peak: #5 Certification: Gold 52. "Obsession (No Es Amor)," Frankie J.Peak: #3 Certification: Gold Prior to his other hits, "How To Deal" and "More Than Words," crossover champion Frankie J. released "Obsession (No Es Amor)," a funky, bob-ya-head nod to the difference between overwhelming infatuation and love itself. Featuring a slick rap from an uncredited (regrettably) Baby Bash, this track was hot enough to warm up the spring before the heatwave of summer. 51. "She's No You," Jesse McCartneyPeak: #2 Certification: Gold 50. "Let Me Love You," MarioPeak: #1 (2 weeks) Certification: Platinum 49. "True," Ryan CabreraPeak: #1 (1 week) Certification: Platinum Don't let the single week at #1 fool you, Ryan Cabrera's "True" was big, and because the song was released in the fall of 2004, its year-end placing does not quite give that impression. With 17 weeks total on the chart, and a Platinum certification to boot, this memorable, acoustic guitar laced ballad had much to be proud of, not only in 2004, but in 2005 as well. (Note: "True" was the first #1 song of 2005.) 48. "Get Right," Jennifer LopezPeak: #6 Certification: Gold When Jennifer Lopez premiered the video for "Get Right" on December 31, 2004, who would've ever thought that one year later it would be of the 50 best performing songs of 2005 on the Hot 21 Pop? Well, she made it, but not without a struggle. When "Get Right" fell from #12 to #13 on the February 2nd chart, there were some concerns that it would never rebound and be labeled as one of those songs that ALMOST made the top ten, but lost momentum too fast. Fortunately, on the following week's chart, thanks to massive video airplay, Lopez regained some steam and eventually peaked at #6. Hey, sometimes a little struggle, only makes you stronger. 47. "My Humps," Black Eyed PeasPeak: #4 Certification: Gold The Black Eyed Peas are no strangers to the Hot 21 Pop, after having scored 6 top 10 hits, most of which were either certified Gold or Platinum. "My Humps" -- an ode to the curvaceous and round parts of the female body -- was one of those hits. The #4 Gold smash, which is currently still charting, is proof that a lot of Fergie goes a long way. Women make the world go 'round, yes we do. (Okay, maybe our lovely lady lumps help a bit.)
