Oh s**t, shake that ass ma, move it like a gypsy
Stop, woah, back it up, now let me see your hips SWING
Stop, woah, back it up, now let me see your hips SWING
Now drop it looooow and let me see your hips SWING
Down to the floooor now let me see your hips SWING
Down to the floooor now let me see your hips SWING
^^^ one of the catchiest choruses of 2005.
great hiphop stuff from New Zealand.
19 Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani HP: #11 WKS: 7
I heard that you were talking s**t
And you didn't think that I would hear it
People hear you talking like that, getting everybody fired up
So I'm ready to attack, gonna lead the pack
Gonna get a touchdown, gonna take you out
That's right, put your pom-poms down, getting everybody fired up
Great anthem-style vibe to this song from gwen stefani. this is definitely the best i've heard from her.
18 Something (To Make You Feel Alright) - Silosonic HP: #3 WKS: 12*
I said hey baby, what you doin tonight
I got something to make you feel alright if you,
just give me a chance!
She said I'll tell you this, you can't resist
You gotta get up and dance,
Breakin down, shake it around!
Great dance remake of a song called 'Breaking Down' by Julia & Company. Hugely catchy, check it out if you haven't!
17 Whatever It Is - Ben Lee HP: #7 WKS: 26
It's so quiet
It's so quiet
It's so quiet
And you're dreaming
And you're dreaming
And you're dreaming
I turn to you and say
Awake is the new sleep
So wake up
Awake is the new sleep
Whatever it is
And do it
Just do it
Whatever it is
The lullaby of the year for mine. A hugely relaxing song, especially when he says the words of his album title, 'Awake is the new sleep'. Check it out ;D
16 Hoppipolla - Sigur Rós HP: #2 (1 week) WKS: 11*
(Icelandic)
Brosandi
Hendumst í hringi
Höldumst í hendur
Allur heimurinn óskýr
Nema þú stendur
Rennblautur
Allur rennvotur
Engin gúmmístígvél
Hlaupandi inn í okkur
Vill springa út úr skel
(English translation)
Smiling
Spinning 'round and 'round
Holding hands
The whole world a blur
But you are standing
Soaked
Completely drenched
No rubber boots
Running in us
Want to erupt from a shell
An excellent song all the way from Iceland. Hoppipolla is Icelandic for 'jumping puddles'.
15 Dare You To Move - Switchfoot HP: #2 (1 week) WKS: 27
Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here.
One of the songs to feature in both 2004 and 2005. Excellent video clip and I love how this song builds up from start to finish!
14 Song For Lovers - Liberty X featuring Rev Run HP: #2 (1 week) WKS: 12*
There's a song for lovers you can hear all the time
But you're like no other to me
So I'm not gonna promise you a starry sky
You just need to believe.
Liberty X have had just two songs on my chart in their existence. 'Bein Nobody' made it to #7 on my 2003 year end chart and this song, which is better than 'Bein Nobody', cracks the top 15! Love the choir sound of the chorus in this that Liberty X provide.
13 For One Day - Evermore HP: #4 WKS: 23
Draw the world in shades of grey
Cut me out and walk away
Pick me up then put me down
'Cause it feels so cold in the rain
Could I hold you for one day?
The voice isn't for everyone but this is some great rock from New Zealand/Australia. A hugely hugely hugely catchy song (yes it's that catchy!).
12 Love Generation - Bob Sinclar HP: #1 (2 weeks) WKS: 5*
Why must our children play in the streets,
broken hearts and faded dreams,
listen up to everyone that you meet,
don't you worry, it could be so sweet,
Just look to the rainbow, you will see
sun will shine till eternity,
I've done for much love in my heart,
No-one can tear it apart.
Wonderful words in a hugely uplifting song. This is a bit of a surprise hit for me and for radio in Australia because I thought it would annoy me after a while. It's getting heavy airplay ahead of its January 23 2006 release here so I am looking forward to how it charts here!
11 Get Back - Sum 41/Ludacris HP: #1 (1 weeks) WKS: 21
(Yeek-Yeek Woop-Woop) Why you all in my ear?
Talkin' a whole bunch a s**t that I ain't tryin to hear.
Get Back! m*th*rf**k*r You don't know me like that.
Get back! m*th*rf**k*r You don't know me like that!
(Yeek-Yeek Woop-Woop) I ain't playin' around..
Make one false move, I'll take you down.
Get back! m*th*rf**k*r You don't know me like that.
Get back! m*th*rf**k*r You don't know me like that!
Loads of attitude in this song and the rock elements added in by Sum 41 really make this song a treat. The hook line 'get back! ...' is one of the greatest of the year in my view.
