just an interesting thing to think about...
if your #1s for this year never existed (even before and after they went to number 1), which songs would've theoretically been at number 1 instead? For example, if a song peaked at number 2 then had the number 1 for that week not existed the song at #2 would've in fact been #1.
These would've been by #1s for the year thus far had my real #1s not existed:

Only 2 of my #2 (so far) this year did not make #1...
My Friends Have - Marianne Faithful (March) Somethings Gotta Give - John Butler Trio (Jan)
From a quick glance of past charts, #2's that don't make #1 the following week (after becoming #2), almost never make #1 (on my chart)
Alot depends on your turn over of #1's. Only 7 songs in the past 4 years were #1 on my charts for more then 3 weeks. (there have been 7 #1's this year on my chart none with more then 3 weeks at the top)

Ayumi pretty much dominates this list. Not surprising, as her music was some of the best this year but a lot of her songs peaked at #2.
"Moments", which has been top 10 on my chart throughout the year, gets the dubious honor for 12 weeks, spread from January to September.

Due to the rules of this thread, I have a very interesting start. January 8th: Switchfoot's "Dare You to Move" is gone, and so is #2 Kelly Clarkson "Breakaway", having lost #1 to Switchfoot that week. #3 was Avril Lavigne "Nobody's Home", which would later hit #1, so she's gone. The #4 song never hit #1... Destiny's Child's "Lose My Breath". January 15th: The Top 3 are the same three as the week before. But DC3 lost #4 to Gavin DeGraw's "I Don't Want to Be". January 22nd and 29th: Gavin DeGraw's "I Don't Want to Be" jumped to #2 behind Avril. February 5th: Gavin lost #2 to Jesse McCartney's "Beautiful Soul". February 12th: Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is gone by jumping 3-1. "Nobody's Home" was #2. Frankie J's "Obsession (No Es Amor)" was safe until this week, as he's now #1 on the current chart. That leaves "Beautiful Soul" as the top song again. February 20th: The Top 3 are the same three as the week before, and Jesse was still #4, so "Beautiful Soul". February 26th and March 5th: "Beautiful Soul" was #3 behind #2 Frankie and #1 Green Day. March 12th: Jesse lost #3 to Alicia Keys "Karma". March 19th: Alicia lost #3 to Gwen Stefani's "Rich Girl" featuring Eve. March 26th: Jumping over "Rich Girl" was Natalie's "Goin' Crazy", which was #2 that week. April 2nd: "Goin' Crazy" fell to #3, but #2 was "Lonely No More" on its way to a 10-week stay on top. April 9th: "Goin' Crazy" still at #3. April 16th: Natalie lost #3 to The Killers "Mr. Brightside". April 23rd: "Mr. Brightside" still #3. April 30th, May 7th and 14th: "Mr. Brightside" is #2 behind "Lonely No More". May 21st: The Killers lose #2 to Duran Duran's "What Happens Tomorrow". May 28th: Duran Duran loses #2 to Jem's "24". June 4th: Jem loses #2 to Green Day's "Holiday". June 11th: "Holiday" still #2. June 18th: Green Day lose #2 to Backstreet Boys "Incomplete". June 25th: "Incomplete" still #2. July 2nd: "Incomplete" falls to #3, but #2 was future #1 "Fall to Pieces". July 9th: "Incomplete" falls to 5, but #2 was still Avril, #3 was "Don't Phunk With My Heart", and #4 was "You and Me" (both future #1s). Between this point and right now, several top spots will be cluttered with past, present, and future #1s, so I'll just list the peak and/or actual position from this point forward. July 16th and 23rd: Nine Inch Nails "The Hand That Feeds" (#5 [peak]) NOTE: The chart was frozen on the week of the 23rd. July 30th: Frankie J "How to Deal" (#3) August 4th and 11th: "How to Deal" (#2 [peak]) August 18th and 25th: Rob Thomas "This is How a Heart Breaks" (#3 [peak]) September 2nd: "This is How a Heart Breaks" (#5) September 10th: Collective Soul "Better Now" (#3 [peak]) September 15th: "Better Now" (#4) September 23rd and 30th: "Better Now" (#5) October 7th and 14th: "Better Now" (#4) October 21st: Kanye West Featuring Jamie Foxx "Gold Digger" (#5) October 28th: "Gold Digger" (#4) November 4th: "Gold Digger" (#3) November 11th: "Gold Digger" (#2 [peak]) November 18th (this week): "Gold Digger" (#3). "Gold Digger" isn't likely to hit #1.
