In hopes of spicing up this forum with some actual music discussion, I'm going to start the 2005 prediction topic now. 2004 is nearly coming to a close and with yearend charts being prepared now both on a national and personal scale, I think it's time that we made some sort of prediction for what 2005 will bring, in terms of general music, who will break through, who will continue success, who will return and what our personal charts will show for it.
Any thoughts?

Anggun (in the later part of the year when her album drops!) Good lord. You're like one of those annoying Pulse members who can't believe that Angela Via isn't as popular as Shania Twain.

well from my perspective, this year has really been about the australian artist, and more closely, the australian band/ singer-songwriter. They have come out with some amazing stuff, it's just been a wonderful year for australian music. whether that will continue into next year i'm not sure. the big players, Jet, Powderfinger, Spiderbait, Little Birdy I assume may all be taking breaks for a fair share of the year after enormous 2004s which saw Jet & Powderfinger release 5-6 singles each, as well as another 'finger album. Spiderbait released an album which had their #1 smash 'Black Betty' on it, and LB released their first album barely a year after forming, although they will probably (hopefully) release another single or two. Regurgitator should still be dominating the charts though with their album only released this week. They're also planning on taking their 'Band In A Bubble' concept which worked awesomely here in australia, over to japan to do it there which may mean another gurge album next year . I think for the US, from my view anyway, this year was essentially the year of the collaboration - there have just been so many. 2005 may be the year the US gets its finger out of its arse and stop it with all this generic, pathetic pop and poor r&b. some of the pop this year sounds like a carbon copy of the stuff from back in '97-'98...ahh those were the days. in any case, it needs to. if they dish out the same stuff as this year then, well, the locals will dominate my chart again.

2005 may be the year the US gets its finger out of its arse and stop it with all this generic, pathetic pop and poor r&b. I was predicting that for 2006! Hopefully it will happen a year before. some of the pop this year sounds like a carbon copy of the stuff from back in '97-'98...ahh those were the days. Agreed! ;D Here is what I predict for 2005: 2004 was the year rap dominated! It was bigger than it was in 2002 and 2003, and when teen pop dominated in 2000, it stopped early 2002, so brosa0 might be right (I hope so ). Jessica Simpson hasn't been very popular until this year. I think somebody that hasn't been very popular will become a huge success like Jessica was this year.... I'm thinking it will happen to... not sure, yet. NAOMI STRIEMER!!! "Fall Behind" is going to radio in January, and it will do great! It will be a huge hit! Well, at least I hope so. Delta Goodrem will successfully cross over to the U.S., but like the Sugababes and Mis-Teeq, she'll be a one-hit-wonder (but I hope not, I predict that because the U.S. is ignorant when it comes to music imo.) Like Delta, I hope Girls Aloud does good in the U.S., but I don't think Girls Aloud will do good at all! They're very poppy, and that stuff was out a long time ago. In conclusion, I think it will be the same as 2004, only a little better because this board is getting me into all kinds of music! ;d

Yeah of the collaboration, huh? I was practically wrecking my brain last night trying to come up with five of them that I liked enough to consider for my Collaboration of the Year nominations! 2004 was the year rap dominated! It was bigger than it was in 2002 and 2003, and when teen pop dominated in 2000, it stopped early 2002, so brosa0 might be right (I hope so ). No it wasn't. 2003 was the year rap and hip-hop dominated. 2004 was the year rap shared a backseat with pop, rock and hotAC oriented music with no front seat driver. Jessica Simpson hasn't been very popular until this year. I think somebody that hasn't been very popular will become a huge success like Jessica was this year.... I'm thinking it will happen to... not sure, yet. She was fairly well known before 2004. I think now she's more of a household name thanks to her show but I didn't see any major headway in success on the charts aside from the fact she got her first #1. Did her CD sales even top those from her first CD? I'm not a big prediction maker but I'm thinking 2005 will see a lot of followup album releases from artist's whose last albums were incredible. Kathleen Edwards is already due out March 1st and I'm expecting a new CD from Martina Sorbara. No word on Chantal Kreviazuk but it's possible that at the end of the year she'll have a new album. Jason Mraz and David Usher hopefully will followup as well. 2004 was the year of the new artist but I think 2005 will be a big year for recently new artists with new albums. Pop chart wise is even tougher for me to predict because I don't know who's really in consideration for making a major crossover, both format wise and country wise. I was expecting Delta Goodrem to break North America in 2004 but now I'm not so sure. She'll probably be the Robbie Williams of Australia. I'll try to come up with something sooner or later.

Madonna is releasing a new album next year isn't she? She may attract hype similar to 2000-01....
I can think of six collaborations straight off that I'm considering for the five nominations for my 'collaboration of the year' award: Car Wash - Christina Aguilera featuring Missy Elliot Tilt Ya Head Back - Nelly & Christina Aguilera Not In Love - Enrique Inglesias featuring Kelis Party For Two - Shania Twain featuring Mark McGrath Slow Jamz - Twista featuring Kanye West & Jamie Foxx Millionaire - Kelis featuring Andre 3000
and scrolling through this week's and last week's playlists for australian music show 'rage', i found these:
So Sexy Chapter II (Like This) - TWISTA featuring R KELLY I Like That - HOUSTON featuring CHINGY, NATE DOGG & I-20 Broken - SEETHER featuring AMY LEE Goodies - CIARA featuring PETEY PABLO My Boo - USHER & ALICIA KEYS Our Lips Are Sealed - HILARY & HAYLIE DUFF Drop It Like It's Hot - SNOOP DOGG featuring PHARRELL
they're just in the past two weeks, and not including the many australian ones. Perhaps you guys just always get a lot over there, but certainly from my view there's been a huge rise.

I was trying to avoid going with Artist A featuring Artist B where Artist B had a small part of the song.

I know that but it still doesn't seem significant enough. Especially 'Big Yellow Taxi' with Vanessa Carlton.

There is a lack of good R&B and Pop songs on the mainstream scene. Hopefully next year will bring more diversity to the US music scene.

you're right, for some reason i also mean rap whenever i say r&b....there's been far too much rap this year as well as poor pop and poor r&b.

How is it different from 2003? I thought 2004 offered MUCH more in the way of music from other genres.
