After 10 years, the long-awaited comeback album from Milli Vanilli is finally seeing the light of day.
The tracks, recorded by Fabrice Morvan and Rob Pilatus, have been unreleased since the suicide of Pilatus in 1998. However, lately their producer, Frank Farian, has been reworking the unreleased tracks for a release later this year.
Farian has been working with surviving member Morvan to finish the vocals and production on the album, and believes now is the time for the long-awaited new Milli Vanilli album to be released.
"It's the nostalgia factor... it's been nearly 20 years since 'Girl You Know It's True' was released, so what better time to capitalize on it than now? And you know, the tracks that we did back then are pretty good... I'm sure had Rob been alive today, he would've wanted them to see the light," Farian was quoted as saying.
For many of the tracks, Morvan recorded new vocals to go along with those of Pilatus that were recorded before his death... and in places where no Pilatus vocals were available, the vocals of the actual singers on their debut album, Charles Shaw, John Davis and Brad Howell, were used as background vocals. Shaw, Davis and Howell released what was scheduled to be the second Milli Vanilli album, "Keep On Running" under the artist name "The Real Milli Vanilli".
Milli Vanilli first achieved fame in 1989 with their debut album, "Girl You Know It's True", and continued it with three Billboard Hot 100 #1 singles the same year; they later achieved infamy when it was revealed that Morvan and Pilatus did not sing on their album, and were likewise stripped of their Grammy award for Best New Artist.
